  1. ok....thanks. I tied this in the key of F which was really different than what I was used to doing. It was uncomfortable. I did think there were a couple of places that I actually felt like I was singing. I have since moved the capo back down a couple of frets. It seemed to sound better than when I first started this crazy idea. Thanks for the critique!
  2. Ok....after several posts and asking for critiques. I have recieved a lot of good advice. One thing that you good folks have suggested is to get out of my comfort zone, move the capo up and try to sing rather than speak. I have tried to do that now. Is there any difference? Thanks
  3. All, Back again....taking your advice and trying to stay with melody. Honest opinions if you heard this at an open mic or around a campfire.....pitchy, on key, horrible, can't sing? Thanks in advance for any assistance!
  4. Thanks RONWS... always appreciate your opinion.....I'll keep working. This dang singing thing is hard:)
  5. Here I am again with another cover. This one is a little different than what I've been doing. Different strumming vs country (bass/strum etc) I also ventured out into a different key and actually tried the original key that Dylan used. I'm still working on trying to stay with the flow of the melody. Anyway, I'm not sure what to make of it. Any objective ears and comments are greatly appreciated. Does it sound "musical" if that makes any sense?
  6. Thanks for the comments thus far....anyone else care to chime in? I haven't been doing this very long but it does seem to get somewhat easier and maybe even a little improvement from where I started. Thanks again
  7. Still working on this singing thing. I think I'm improving somewhat but I really need objective ears. At times I think I sound "ok" and there are other spots that I know are off a little. I listen to a lot of Dylan....probably not the greatest voice but it works for him. With that said, maybe my style should be more of a storyteller and not so much a singer, if that makes any sense. Do you all think that is a style in itself...I mean speaking the words instead of singing....can a person "speak" on key? Please take a listen. Thanks in advance.
  8. Thanks to ronws and MDEW....I am brand new to this stuff and have tried to set realistic goals. I simply want to be able to contribute to our local jam sessions or campfires without people whispering "God, that guy is terrible and needs to shut up" kind of thing... If that makes sense. The coach tried to help with technique, breathing, enunciation which I know is important but I think my biggest problem has been simply not having the confidence and just putting it out there?! I think I'm starting to realize that while a lot of people may not have a great voice they sing with that "thing inside" and it makes all the difference in the way they view the song? I'll keep working and keep having fun...Thanks again and I'll be working on another soon. and yeah....living in Tennessee, I've been in a bar or two:cool:
  9. Okay....here's take two....trying to relax and sing like a "crotchety redneck"....any difference/improvement?
  10. Thank you....are you suggesting my "singing Key" should be/might be the key of C instead of D?
  11. All, Been working on this singing thing for a little while....sought out some tips from vocal coaches. That seems to help. I'm 50 years old and just now tried to start singing. Please give a listen....looking for honesty 'cause I'm thinking about trying an open mic night at some point and don't want to make a complete idiot of myself. I'm singing (attempting) in key of D. Am I on key? Bad, okay, or just plain ugly? All comments appreciated and welcomed. Thanks
  12. So, working on this singing thing some more. I posted this song about a week ago for comments and tried it again trying to work on singing rather than "speaking lazily" and tried to put a little more emotion into it. You guys are the best source for honest critique compared to friends and family. Anyway, same questions....on key, pitchy? all comments much appreciated. Thanks
  13. Thank you....I will definitely keep working and taking the advice.....as far as what you heard this time- I know it can be better but was it ok, bad, would you throw tomatoes if you heard it at open mic?
  14. Thank you. I am continuing to work on the singing v speaking. Just trying not to make a fool of myself. Was it on key for the most part anyway? I did a little work with a coach and she suggested stay in the key of C for the time being. This singing stuff is hard Other comments are so much appreciated.....thanks
  15. Continuing on this journey. Trying to sing rather than speak. My goals are to sing on key even though I don't think I have a pleasant voice....not make a fool of myself setting around a jam session and who knows, maybe even an open mic if I get real brave. All honest feedback greatly appreciated.
