  1. Ok...back again. Worked with a vocal coach. Tried to sing rather than "speak" the song. Looking for honest feedback. Just trying to stay on key and develop a decent voice. Just trying not to make a fool of myself in public. Please take 60 seconds and view and give me your honest thoughts. I have tried to work on the things that forum members have suggested....still have much work to do. Thanks so much.
  2. All, My second attempt after a few months. Looking for honest critique. I did this E flat which, to me, sounds like it fits my voice better. I read on the internet that e flat suits a lot of male singers that do no have a strong voice? My goal is to sing maybe at an open mic one of these days and not embarrass myself. Am I on key? out of pitch? Are people going to throw tomatoes at me? I've worked up the courage to sing in front of a couple of family members and they say "not bad".....Probably not the best way to get an honest eval. Anyway, all comments are welcome. Thanks
  3. How about it guys....any more comments. This is important to me. Again, I'm being realistic about my goals and what I can and can't do. Thanks in advance.
  4. I've just been doing warmups and exercises, but come to think of it, I think I went straight into this particular version. I've noticed you have commented on both of my previous attempts. Do you hear any improvement? If you heard this at a house party or open Mic, would it be passable/ok? AS you probably picked up on I am so new to this that I'm really insecure about the way I sound. Thanks for your time.
  5. All, This is my third submission. I have tried to consider all previous comments and adjust accordingly. I was unable to find a backing track that I could get to work but I did make some other adjustments and have tried to give this my best shot (at least the best I have now). I don't see myself as a rock and roll star- I'm more comfortable doing folkstyle/singer/songwriter stuff. I did this song in the key of C. I think that key suits me the best-please let me know what you think about that. I am almost 50 years old and have never tried to sing in my life. I have been doing vocal exercises that have been suggested and while I dont think this is great I do think I'm hearing some improvement in what I'm doing. Again, all honest comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks
  6. I asked a few days ago for some honest comments and you folks provided. I took some of the advice, put the guitar down and worked some on techniques so I'm back again, I'm looking for some more feedback. Would I run everyone out of the room (I'll add the guitar later)? Pitchy? On key? Also, since I put the guitar down, I have no idea what key I might even be close to as I sing this...can some of you "perfect pitch" folks comment on what key may be best for me to try to sing and play in? Thanks again!
  7. Straight from the hip....that's what I am looking for. Thanks Tommy
  8. I just wanted to say thanks for everyone taking time to comment. I will take this advice and continue to work. I understand about the guitar, I guess I just think it helps guide me ( at least somewhat). Not to beat a dead horse, but, if you were at , say an open jam, and you heard what I was doing, is it one of those things that make you cringe inside and think this guy needs to forget trying to sing? I know that I will improve , at least some, with time and work but I guess I'm just trying to gage where I am today....if that makes sense. I know I've been to jams, open mic nights etc and I've heard other people sing and I think "someone should tell them that was the wrong key, off pitch etc"....again just looking for honest comments. Thanks again, this is a really good forum.
  9. Okay....I'll give those things a try. I guess "anyone can sing" ; but, I'm just starting and found it a little easier with the guitar. I guess I was trying to use it to stay on pitch/key. I've never sang in front of anyone, never tried really. I guess what I hear is not the way other people hear my voice. Was it off pitch, terrible, embarrasing? Please be honest....I can take it. Thanks in advance.
  10. Looking for some honest feedback. I know I'm not American Idol quality. Just don't want to make a fool of myself. Any advice/comments would be so very appreciated. I have a youtube page but I just can't link it here (trying to figure that part out) Anyway, if you have time you can go to youtube and type in "Can I sing? Honesty Please." It's a short bit of a John Prine song. Thank you so much.
