  1. Is the guitar just a little out of tune? I think it would help your vocal performance if there was a perfectly tuned guitar. Something weird is going on with the tuning and it would throw off my voice.

As for tips for improving the lower areas of the voice. For me I have two things I've done significantly. One is to take vowel like in between 'oh and ah,' kind of like 'awwww' and experiment with adding as much resonance as possible, then decreasing resonance to minimum. Try to make the timbre it brassier and brighter or darker and murkier.

So basically try to learn to swell and decrease the resonance, and sing bright/dark it helps a lot with lower notes. Listen to Frank Sinatra.

Thanks a lot for the tips.

As for the guitar, it did feel very out of tune but it had its strings changed and been tuned by a ''professional'' so I just went along and thought that individual's judgment was better than my ears.

    I'm glad I was correct.

Again thanks, I'm gonna tune it myself tomorrow and I'll try again!

  2. It's pretty good. You're emoting well. It sounds a little 'heavy' and I think you're ever so slightly flat, which might be because you're carrying a bit too much weight. So yeah, I'd advise shedding a bit more weight and shading a bit more towards a head voice.

Your falsetto in this sounds good, by the way. But it might not be the best way to connect it as it sounds a bit piercing. If you try imitating this sound here, it might help you find a lighter connected voice you can build off of here:

It helps to do kind of a yawn.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your input, very valuable.

  3. I think you have a nice voice! the key of this song is hard because it touches some notes of your first bridge, e.g. E4 and which are place on the border of your chest voice and mix voice. You have to find a way to go into your mix voice with less weight

    Thanks for the input man!

Indeed, I had to work with a different key than usual because I was on the guitar too (I'm a very poor guitar player so I just did basic chords lol) so I didn't have a lot of experience with that version of the song. I will definitely work on it thanks again.

  4. I am beginning to get the impression that you are an Adam Levine fan. Cool. I heard this one recently. The wife and I watched the show about the Victoria Secret shoot and they had Maroon 5 perform two songs and this was the closer.

You are covering your tone. Put a little smile in it and let the tone brighten. See if that gets closer to the sound you were aiming for.

Thanks for the tip! No more Adam Levine for a while I promise haha :D

  5. I think did better on "I'll Be" and "Sugar" than you do on payphone. For whatever reason, your voice sounds better on these. Which can happen. You sound good covering one song by an artist. But not necessarily on another song by the same artist. Not that you did badly. Just, if I had a preference, it would be these two songs, especially "I'll Be."

I am not a big Adam Levine follower as far as music though I like his thinking about it. But I do like him as an actor.

Thanks for your honest opinion, it means a lot.

  6. If I was having few drinks listening to this live with a band playing live I would enjoy it. I would just have like to hear all the Sugars for chorus done like you did toward the end ( high falsetto) Just for dramatic affect and keep my attention. But you did a good job keep working.

    Thanks for your input man.

Yeah, I wasn't too sure about the falsetto, it ended up sounding okay to my surprise in a lower key than the original. I can hit the note in the original but it really doesnt sound that good so I got used to singing it an octave lower haha. Thanks again.

  7. That's a really distinct timbre. It is growing on me the more I hear it. It's a bit on the nasal side. For acapella the song is recognizable and mostly in tune which is good.

I think on average balancing out the resonance to include just a bit more of the lower/warm side might help you get a little more mainstream, but Adam Levine is pretty nosey as is.

The opposite extreme of resonating is a very open throat, lower tongue, and high softer palette. If you were to say like 'hoooooo.' Like an owl and almost yawn the beginning of it it would be the polar opposite, which would be too far for most mainstream tastes too. Either way, higher tongue generally helps, even with more open throat.

I don't know what timbre you're after, or what your artistic goals are, but I'm thinking just a little more openness might add a tiny bit of richness.

On a side note, dude you're like almost eating the camera, you're so close, hahaha. Just thought it was funny. Most people are like camera shy and would put a bit of distance or whatnot. You got balls. Your face takes up my whole screen. :D

    Hahahahaha!

    Thanks for the input!

I'm actually not too sure where I wanna go, it's the curse of appreciating every single genre of music there is. This is definitely not the style of singing I usually go for, but I needed it to AT LEAST try to stay true to the pop-soul feel of the song.

And yes my timbre is rather... different... you know how most people have trouble getting to like their voice? It's always been a struggle for me lol

Here's an older video of me to give you an idea of how I adjust to different styles.
