SaphiraSora
I am an amateur singer.....no, seriously, no training, nothing to put on my resume but years in various high school and college ensembles. Which is needless to say I'm pretty good....I think. What do you think? A friend recently said I sound as if I could be Nightwish's new singer yet the songs are so different. Here are a few: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ez7m4Fe2S1w -Meadows of Heaven-Nightwish http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z50-m01DftM -Deep Silent Complete http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXF47iJ8XRA -Eva http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_M154xaxjM -Passion and the Opera These songs vary greatly in vocal range and I was wanting to know maybe which vocal range fits me. I placed in Soprano 1 in my womens ensemble but meh, that doesn't really say alot toward individual vocal characteristics. What do you think?!?! Please don't critique TOO hard, I am only an amateur and shy about my voice >.< By the way I'm new so it is nice meeting you all! Thank you!!! SH
Hey, Look I just noticed that you had no comments, so despite being in the middle of cooking dinner for my three kids, I took out a couple of minutes to listen to the first of your tracks. WOW. With no voice lessons, you sound terrific. I highly reccommend that you get some voice training, as with a few technique problems ironed out, and your pitch and delivery a little more consistent, you are going to have a seriously good voice. Very impressive raw talent. Go and hone it. Don't be shy. YOu need to let that baby live. You have a beautiful sound.
JaneDoe
You have a very sweet voice. Passion and the Opera in my opinion is a kinda difficult one and you did it great. How did you record it?
Jugulator
Oh, yes! That's great! Clean and sweet voice. If you recorded the song in a studio, it would surely sound excellent!

On the one hand, you think your voice is good, and it is. Yet, you are "shy" and fear criticism. Welcome to the world of singers. I listened to the original artist who is a bit more mezzo soprano and I think you are lyric soprano. At least for now. The tessitura of coloratura would depend on what your top note is and how light that is. But, at the very least, you sound like a soprano lyrico. And I am a fan of this type of music. Hard rock / heavy metal arranged in a fashion of classical music with an "operatic" voice over it. Some might say I am prejudiced because the characteristics of my voice to like this kind of music. But I really liked the way you did these songs. I just felt that old urge to point out irony where I see it. And yes, I agree, you could totally be a singer for Nightwish and it would be better for you to do so than someone who sounds just like the original singer. You have her range but a lighter tessitura (texture.) No lessons, eh? Well, it can happen. But you have been in various singing functions and I bet you absorbed some technique without realizing it. Some people just have it. Caruso did. He couldn't even explain how he did it. But his friend, fellow singer, and fan, Dr. Mariafiotta did and dubbed it the scientific method. So, yes, it is possible to sing like you do without years of lessons. It's uncommon, but not unheard of. But I would like to hear you do a classical piece, if you dare. How about an evocative rendition of "Nessun Dorma"? Even though it's a relatively simple "art song" it is a challenge to do correctly because it is balladic.
