  1. Welcome to The Modern Vocalist World Forum, s334567pq !

First of all, let me stress that I am NOT a doctor !!!

Don't panic ! Since you mentioned that you aren't experiencing any pain or hoarseness, I seriously doubt that you have done permanent damage to your voice, nor do I believe that you have developed nodules, nodes, etc. My suggestions would be that you rest your voice for a few days. NO singing, limit your speaking for a few days, and get plenty of rest. If you are still experiencing problems, then yes, see a doctor as you mentioned.

Also, I would try some teas mixed with honey to soothe the throat. Or simply use a couple of teaspoons of honey a couple of times daily. DO NOT use products that numb the throat !!! All they do is numb your throat and "mask" your symptoms.

Speaking of teas, if you are SERIOUS about your singing, check out the "Singer's Tea" which you can purchase right here at TMV World. They are by far the best teas I have found. Here's a link for your convenience :

I'm also including a gargle "mixture" that is very helpful :

    Vocal Gargle

Gargle (for Coughs, Sore Throat, etc. GREAT for use after singing. Can be used prior to singing as well)

     MIX:

2 TBS. Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

2 TBS Honey (Preferably locally produced)

    1/2 tsp. Slippery Elm Powder

Approx. 1/4 tsp. Sea Salt (Good Quality)

    1 oz. Aloe Vera Gel/Juice

    4 - 6 Drops Glycerin

    1 cap full Hydrogen Peroxide

    1 cap full "Alkolol" TM

    Few Drops Lemon Juice

    4 - 6 Drops Tea Tree Oil

    4 - 6 Drops Licorice

Pinch Cayenne Pepper to Taste (Be CAREFUL)

Mix with warm water (Use a 12 oz. Tumbler)

    Use at Room Temperature

    (Refrigerate after use)

     DO NOT INGEST

Note : I realize that you may have some difficulty finding some of these ingredients LOCALLY, but try to add as many as possible.

    Kindly keep us posted......

    Warmest Regards,

    Adolph

  2. Thank you Robert for the detailed practical advice.

I have tried adding nasal consonants to my routine, and surprisingly it seems to work: I have tried doing a glide from the top most note to the down most note using both "N" and "NG" (nasal "nasty" sounding), and whenever I do it, I find my voice to becomes easier to speak and more loudly heard.

Sometimes I even add a gliding humming ("M"), and then my voice becomes even more clear and loud.

But sometimes my voice goes back to the "unheard" behaviour.. although I guess its because of old habbits that will change with time the more I practice?

P.S: Thanks Adolph for the tea recommendation as well.

My pleasure, Miki ! Be sure to check out the "Vocal Inhaler" as well ;)

  3. Chief, with "4pillars" 4.0 and the book completing, I will be getting back to the tours, retreat workshops and other things in the works... I had to hunker down and "shed" on my product for a few years... now Im ready to start having fun again... I would be happy to take you Chief, but seriously, you have to at least know how to get online with wifi... I mean we have some technical challenges...

    :moomin:

    Coach,

Wow ! This is a lot, so I have to break it down :

First, You mentioned "having fun again". As I've said before, you DEFINITELY deserve a VACATION !!! You've busted your butt putting all of this together for ALL of us here at the forum. Not to mention running your business..... Honestly, I don't know when you get to relax or sleep ???

Secondly, Yes, there are definitely "issues" and technical challenges that I'm having. As I mentioned in our recent PM, I had my friend in the computer business check everything out on my "system" and I was correct about the problems being a result of Hughes net. (I hope they don't sue me, but that's a fact). There is something in their modems (?) that block certain sites/features. My friend told me he gets a LOT of complaints of this sort from many of his customers that utilize Hughes. Unfortunately, where I live, in the "middle of nowhere" - "No Name N.Y.", I'm stuck as I simply cannot get cable.

Finally, I am TRULY HONORED that you have invited me to join you in your "travels". That is SO AWESOME !!! It ROCKS !!! :headbang2:

I'll PM you with the details..... :moomin:

  4. Sounds like you are doing all the right things. And you are not the only one to drink coffee and have the world NOT end. It is my opinion that, absent some odd food allergy that I have never heard of, drinking coffee or tea is not going to adversely affect you. Tea can sometimes dry me out but I don't tea as often as I drink Diet Coke. The preservatives keep me looking younger than I am.

    :4:

Same here, Ron. I noticed that SOME teas dry me out as well. But, adding Xylitol or a bit of honey seems to negate that.....

@ Miki : Over the years, I've tried many, many teas. But may I suggest that you try the "Singer's Tea" and the "Vocal Inhaler" ? IMO, they are the best teas for singers. You can find these products right here on the forum.

  5. I remembered one of Robert's vids during his travels and master class teasers. There was one in Germany. Another vid from Italy. And I do believe one in France. And think that was where you were on the talk show, as well, demonstrating and talking about 4 Pillars. Or was that Belgium? I know you have traveled around Europe a few times to help out your satellite teachers.

Robert has been all over conducting his "mater classes" since we've know each other. At least eight years now.... I've asked him to take me several times, but never was able to go. I would have even covered my own expenses ! Hmmmmm.... I wonder why I couldn't go ? Perhaps I talk too much ??? Poor guy wouldn't even be able to snooze on the flight :24:

  6. "EDIT: Someone knows how to make it an embed :c ?"

How to embed your video(s) :

Click on this link >> http://www.themodernvocalistworld.com/topic/7709-tutorials-forum-features-how-to-tips/

Then scroll down to : "How To Embed A Video!"

Watch the video that Robert has posted.

Not only will this embed YouTube videos, but other embeds as well. Just as I have done with yours. ;)

    I hope this has helped....

  7. Bellsprout,

No apologies are necessary and no offense was taken. As you can imagine, our coaches are very busy with their respective clientele, and many of our members have jobs, which of course dictate what time they will log in. As for myself, I typically log in at approximately 1 - 2 P.M. (EDT) daily, and then several times a day at no specific time. It just depends on my schedule on a given day.

As for reviewing songs and videos..... I'm in a difficult situation given where I live. I would love to review and comment on each and every song and/or video, however, the only ISP I can get where I live is Hughes net, and consequently I'm limited in my bandwidth to 10 Gb monthly. If I exceed that limit then my connection speed drops below the old "dial up". It's a lousy situation !!!

Again, a sincere welcome to The Modern Vocalist World Forum ! I'd like to add that if you ever need assistance or have any concerns, please don't hesitate to write me.

    Sincere Regards,

    Adolph

  8. Thanks man. You just saying I need to use my diaphragm more basically? I will agree to that tho haha, I'm also trying to learn notes so I can hit notes better in general too. But thanks for reply I was thinking this forum is dead lol

    Bellsprout,

    Welcome to the forum !!!

Just a comment on "hitting notes". As Maestro Lunte would say, you don't HIT notes, you SING them ! Hope this informative video helps you .....

    Regards,

    Adolph

Note : This forum is definitely not dead ! Sometimes it just takes awhile to get some replies.....

  9. Marillion, yes, great band... love that band... :dizzy:

Love the textures and dynamics... really PRETTY compositions... this is the kind of band / music I love to sing... lots of theater and heroism... And this album "Seasons End" , which I believe is Hogarth's first album with the band after "Fish" left them... This album is one of those rare albums that every song is great... It is similar to U2's "Joshua Tree"... this is Marillion's "Joshua Tree"... people... go get this album... its great...

AWESOME, Coach ! Add to that, "Marbles", "Brave", and so many more too numerous to mention !!!

Speaking of "Fish", when you get a moment, check out his recent album - "A Feast of Consequences".

  10. Thanks Chief...

Sing "anything"?... C'mon Chief, I have some game, but there are a lot of things that beat me up when I try to sing it... you go too far...

We ALL have some "things" that beat us up, but seriously, thus far I haven't seen anything that you've had any difficulties with. Seriously....

I'd like to see you do some Marillion "covers". I'm sure you've heard of them and their "frontman", Steve Hogarth (aka "h"). h is one of my favorite vocalists - just amazing IMO ! Marillion has been around a long time but I didn't hear about them until around 2008. About the time that we first met....

My chiropractor introduced me to them (or shall I say the band), and immediately I was hooked !!! I started to cover SOME of their tunes and since very few people in the States are familiar with them, our band started to do some of their covers. Granted, there is NO WAY I can do ALL of them as the vocals are sometimes very complex. If I can do some covers, I'd be willing to bet that YOU would do a much better job than myself.

Speaking of our band, it's been "down" for quite some time now. Long story.....

  11. This month's Jazz challenge song is.....

Autumn Leaves by Nat King Cole!

OMG! What a coincidence! I just learned that song in my singing class, and I have an upload on youtube of me doing it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROv9w6K8JIk

    Ugonna,

Welcome to the forum.  Kindly upload a picture to your profile. It really helps the forum and gives YOU identity !

    Thank you,

    Adolph
