Woah didn't realize this cover was still getting any feedback, three new posts? Very cool.. thank you very much Ellise & Colin, and Ron, you may have made my day with your incredibly passionate observation. Honestly can say nobody has ever told me that before so thank you for that sentiment. I will keep all of your comments in mind when it comes to practicing some new material. Peace and love.

Yo man pick yourself up a cheap keyboard on Ebay for 50 - 100 bucks and just run your voice up and down those notes. You don't have to learn professional piano, but as an exercise tool for intonation the benefits are too vast to ignore. And yeah I know you can get some keyboard app on your phone but having a tangible musical instrument to touch and feel is way cooler.
Good luck man and nice work so far.

Margaritaville is easy, I could have it ready to perform in 10 minutes.

Hahahah man you are crazy. All this talk of Greyhound buses and road trips is unnecessary. Surely an event that included two TMV moderators would justify the use of the official Modern Vocalist Private Jet. We'll just have Adolph leave us the keys for the weekend. We can all get together and back home in under 12 hours.

Hell yeah man that sounds awesome. As long as you guys don't mind having a kid around hahah.. I believe we could pull a pretty mean acoustic version of "Whichita Lineman" between the three of us. Thanks for listening
-
Hell yeah I liked the effect, was tasteful and was totally in the right place being a Def Leppard cover. And no problem man, it's the least I could do in return for your kind words and criticisms of my own covers. Peace and love.

Nice job Gneetap, I don't have much constructive criticism as your technique seems to be better than mine (especially for the high notes) but I think that MDEW's advice of raising it a step higher to give it more punch is solid. I liked the chorus effect you put on for the chorus.
-
It was a pretty faithful cover with not much liberty taken so I can agree with that criticism. Thanks for listening.
Original song is here if you guys are interested:

Really fun guitar song because the entire thing is a deep, swampy, shuffle groove. (E - C#m the whole time sans a few B chords.) Hope it grooves with you guys as well. http://picosong.com/xquQ/

Thanks very much once again, to you two for checking out the cover.

And Jeremy, you also have the spirit of Bowie. You have that free spirit in your voice, no matter what you do. It is always fun with you.
Thanks a lot man. I enjoyed all the covers as well. Was nice of you to give a rundown of all of what you heard from us.
-
Yeah it's one take, first take. Probably why there are a lot of issues lol. On the "How hard can it be" I purposely lightened up to sort of balance all the chest pulling. Don't think there is a mic issue there but other parts I may have backed away too far or something causing it to get quieter.
Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to listen both of you.
-
Yeah, I throw on a preset compressor to all my takes. I don't have any sophisticated grasp on dialing it in to fit the mix though.
-
Thanks man. And yeah I hear you man, appreciate the criticism.
-
Yeah I'm definitely pushing partly for stylistic reasons and partly for lack of technique. Probably a good song to add to "the setlist" though as you said.

Straining on relatively low notes, with great fervor. http://picosong.com/ZcQU/

R.I.P David Bowie, once for actually passing and another for me slaughtering his music. Nevertheless, here is my nearly late cover of "Starman" In tribute to the Starman himself who most certainly is back home planning his next visit to Earth right now.
-
Yep, that's still me man haha. Making some progress though for sure but anyway, well said advice.
-
Thanks for the tips guys, and also I listened to your cover Killer and really dug it. Has a good distinct style to it that separates it from being just a tribute cover. Hard to pin who your voice sounds like to me but there is definitely an influence in there that I can't really pin down. I do hear a bit of Lennon on the "aint got you" parts though.
And to all else.. please don't hesitate to add a cover because I'd still really like to hear all of you.
-
Nice work man! By the way, somehow you triple posted this so I went ahead and deleted the other two.
-
Hahahaha.. made me laugh man. Damn southern accent which can turn a single word into a slide through every vowel sound that exists. Maybe that's why country singers never sing that high hahaha... their accent always gets in the way of learning any proper vowel mods. Thanks for the advice man.

LOL. It's like that sometimes. Doesn't sound bad to me, you know, just a little pitchy here and there. Still a nice recording. And the fact that this wasn't easy means you really challenged yourself, which is the point here.
I still want to throw one up, myself. Any suggestions?
Thanks man, was definitely a challenging song for me.
I would really like to hear you do "Nights On Broadway" as it has a good soul groove to it that I think would match your voice perfect.
-
Thanks guys. And you are right Bzean, it was first take. I should have sat down and worked on the melody more so I appreciate that criticism.
Still, I am sad that I didn't get to hear any other covers. I really had a few people in mind that I thought could do some specific songs awesomely. Oh well.
-
Thanks a ton guys, this is the type of tune I wasn't expecting to get much feedback on so I really appreciate it. Will keep your thoughts in mind.

Picosong works great as well for a free streaming service but you need an MP3 first to upload. Don't think it takes MP2.
