TMV World Legacy Member leemaxx Posted December 8, 2011 TMV World Legacy Member Share Posted December 8, 2011 I'm really new to this and I would really appreciate any constructive criticism. The song is sweet virginia by the stones, I'm trying to use the correct breathing method and not sing from the throat, but to me it sounds strained. Am I trying to sing to out of my range? or maybe not using the propose breathing method? Thanks in advance http://dl.dropbox.com/u/828072/Untitled1.mp3
TMV World Legacy Member Keith Posted December 8, 2011 TMV World Legacy Member Share Posted December 8, 2011 Sounds like you are on the right track! What kinds of warm ups do you do? I suggest doing some that resonate your nasal area - like lip bubbles... Those do a number of different things, but in your case it would get you used to feeling the sound resonating in your "mask" and take the strain off your throat. It can take a while for it to "click" though. I suggest doing a specific warm up routine every day.... Starting with lip bubbles. I do 5 note scales (acsending). And don't push too hard (or at all), they should be comfortable. If you don't know what they are or how to do them, you can prolly find a video on YouTube that shows you how. PS I am only saying this because it has helped me. I am not any kind of teacher. I am not sure if it will help you. But, I had the issue of straining my throat - and dealt with it for a year until I registered here and read a ton of posts... If you are serious about singing, maybe the next step for you should be booking a skype lesson with one of the many vocal coaches that are kicking around. If I may, I'd suggest Robert Lunte or Dan Formica. Robert actually owns this forum. www.drop-head.com
TMV World Legacy Member gno Posted December 8, 2011 TMV World Legacy Member Share Posted December 8, 2011 Keith has good suggestions. If you want to improve, you should try warming up with those semi-occluded vowels. I also would recommend getting a teacher. Or at the very least get yourself an instructional DVD from Robert Lunte or Ken Tamplin or others. There are a lot of good programs out there, and since this is Robert's forum, why not try his method? TMV World Legacy Member leemaxx Posted December 14, 2011 Author TMV World Legacy Member Share Posted December 14, 2011 Reporting back...I took your advice Keith and started doing lip bubbles to warm up and also practicing my breathing, I hadn't been doing any kind of warm ups. Are there any other warm up you would suggest?. I think I've made some progress, I did no expectations by the stones and would really appreciate your input once again. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/828072/Untitled2.mp3
