pepe.le.tvor
Hey guys. I would like you to critique my voice. Personally, I think that I have boring/emotionless voice, so I would like to hear your opinion and some advices on how to improve it. I sang 2 songs (only first part-until the end of the first chorus), Don't you cry - Guns and roses and Caruso -- famous Italian song.. P.S. I'm not Italian so the pronunciation is not the best... http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13223201/don%27t%20you%20cry%20-%20first%20part.mp3 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13223201/caruso11.mp3 Tnx
Snax
I checked out prat of Don't you Cry and you are probably pretty new to singing right? You have a good sense of timing with the music which is a major plus. I think that with practice you will soon be surprising yourself with what you can do. Singing, like many other physical activities involves training muscle memory through repetitious exercises. That is just a fact of life unless you are very gifted vocally, which most of us aren't. Keep a positive attitude and always strive to get better each time you sing even if it's just a tiny improvement on a single note. Welcome to our online family! pepe.le.tvor
Hmm...I guess it's a relative question... I started taking lessons 1.5 years ago, but my voice was terrible back then...My throat was majorly tight and I needed to learn to breath properly...I am improving constantly and that's what matters I guess. Thank you for your welcome!

pepe.le.tvor
Thank you! I guess I'm not used to listening my recorded voice so it probably sounds much worse to me than it actually is.
pepe.le.tvor
Any advice you guys have on adding emotions to songs?
ronws
Your voice sounds fine and emotive enough to me. I think your just self-conscious, right now. Maybe you don't like the way it sounds when recorded. I have that problem, too, primarily because of lack of proper equipment. On the Caruso piece, you went a little flat now and then and that could probably be fixed with twang, especially as you are singing it in a pop style. Some use vocal distortion to create a mood or emotion in a song. Really, just imagine the emotion you have and put that in. If a song makes you sad, sound as if you are crying. If you are mad, bite down on the ends of the words or growl a little bit. Sometimes, the subtext of a song helps you decide on the emotion. For example, "Barracuda" by Heart was written in defiant anger against a rude A&R guy from a record company. So, the proper emotions for the song is anger and sarcasm. pepe.le.tvor
Do you think this version is better than the first one http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13223201/don%27t%20you%20cry%20first%20part%20II.mp3 ?
ronws
Do you think this version is better than the first one http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13223201/don%27t%20you%20cry%20first%20part%20II.mp3 ? That was perfect. Good intonation. Well done pronunciation, considering english isn't your first language. Excellent increase in volume on the chorus. Do that stuff some more. Not just in general, but I would like to hear you to do this song all the way through, including high accents in the later choruses.

pepe.le.tvor
I've also done the song from Lenny Kravitc - Again. The start is a little bit fuzzy, 'cause I was not really sure about the melody, 'cause it was the second time I played it and I haven't heard it for a while before that. Here it is : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13223201/Lenny%20-%20Again.mp3
