  1. Ok, I see it now! I must have missed it! But you can see my email address above in this thread! :)
  2. Thanks for a really inspirational post, analog. If you wanna chat further, here I am on MSN Messenger: j_g_thorarinsson@hotmail.com. I've come to realize the importance of twang lately and I'm working on it. Just out of curiousity, what are you doing to change the sound from duck-y sounding to Bono at the end of your second clip?
  3. Thanks a lot for the kind words, Robert and doomhead. Robert, I'm totally broke (or close to it) these days so I can't afford anything but I do own several vocal instructionals and I plan to use them so that I can maybe pull off some tenor songs with my band (at home it's easier) after 3 months or so. Maybe that's being too optimistic, I don't know. If I could ever sing songs like Sweet child o' mine, You shook me all night long, Pride (in the name of love), I remember you (by Skid Row), etc., and do them justice, I would die a happy man. That would be enough for me, even though I'm going to try to constantly take things to the next level.
  4. If you have time to check this out, let me know what you think. Comments on the youtube pages would also be nice, as I just created them yesterday Cheers!
  5. Live footage might come soon... I just love rock 'n' roll and music. I'm in a band, yes. Thanks Michelle. I actually have some live footage on my facebook page.
  6. vamacoustics, thanks a lot for the comments. Glad you liked it. It's true that when I'm singing, it's hard for me to play complex guitar parts. But when I'm not, here's how I sound, playing Steve Vai's For the love of god: http://www.speedyshare.com/files/20172676/For_the_love_of_god.mp3 Check it out and let me know how you like it! Cheers, jonpall.
  7. Thanks. Yeah, I'm lowering it to 3 half steps because the high scream is an F#5. So here it becomes an Eb5, which is something I seem to be able to do at rehearsals and gigs. I don't think I can rely (yet) on an F#5 note being there for me live. Note also, that David Coverdale didn't put distortion on this note, but I chose to. Thanks again for good comments.
  8. Instead of making a new thread for a completely different song I just recorded a few minutes ago, I decided to simply post that song here: http://www.speedyshare.com/files/20033167/It_s_now_or_never.mp3 I'd also like to hear some people's opinion on my performance of this song - "It's now or never" by Elvis Presley. There were people in the apartment next door when I recorded this, so I pretty much stuck to a moderate volume. It would be especially great if Steven Frasier could chime in, because this is as "operatic" as I've gotten with my audio demonstrations so far, and I know Steven has lots of knowledge about that. Also, do you hear a tenor or a baritone? Just curious. So, to sum up: Comments on both songs would be very well appreciated! I realize they're not perfect, but they were both first-takes with little or no warm ups and absolutely no post-editing.
  9. Check this out - me singing Here I go again by Whitesnake (an unplugged version): http://www.speedyshare.com/files/20032203/Here_I_go_again.mp3 I hope you can try to listen past the poor recording quality. I don't have better equipment at the moment, but I'm working on getting some. Let me know if you like it or not. Personally I think I'm getting somewhat decent at this song, but some of you might disagree. Here you can hear some gritty singing, along with some high notes. There are several Ab4s, with and without distortion and one Eb5 scream.
  10. Especially on how I could work on getting a more rocker-like tone for those high notes (from listening to my clip(s)).
  11. Any other people want to comment on those clips, i.e. where I could improve, etc.? Especially on the first clip.
  12. Well, to start off, I want to be able to sing songs like that without grit (like in the first clip) and then add grit once that is good enough. Still, I've heard guys like Jamie Vendera say that they don't believe in a naturally raspy voice and I've also heard Steven Tyler sing pretty clean (both high and low notes). But I agree with you that it certainly seems to come easy to him :)
  13. Please check out this take of the song as well: http://www.speedyshare.com/448822196.html This time I decided to try to sing it in what CVT calls overdrive and edge (on the high notes) and I also add distortion on some notes. I realize that I'm off pitch at times, but I haven't worked that much on these modes and I was also distracted by the bikers going by in the park I recorded this (guess I'm not as shy as I thought, lol) I started off doing a few "full voice sirens" from Jamie Vendera's book "Raise your voice II" and that seemed to get me into those modes fairly well. I'm interested to know if, even though that take isn't that great, if those 2 CVT modes are the ones I should be working on if I want to get a rock tenor sound similar to Tyler and Coverdale. Any thoughts on that, please? Cheers, jonpall.
  14. I think you're a great singer! You've got a very pretty voice!
  15. A beautiful, beautiful voice, Kennda! Love the songs as well!
  16. Hi, This is me singing the song "Cryin'" by Aerosmith, recorded on my mobile phone (sorry, I didn't have better equipment at the moment): http://www.speedyshare.com/827307891.html I'm just practising and these are all done in one take with no editing. I'm still not happy with the way I sound here. The thing is, I'm practising singing rock songs that have melodies that go beoynd G4 and all the way up to about E5. I want to be able to sing both clean and distorted. I'm already fairly content with singing stuff below and up to a G4, but I want to increase my range and skills. Can anyone tell me where I'm doing something incorrect, what could be done better, what's good, etc.? I'd like to get some pointers on where I can improve. I'm experimenting with twang and grit on some places. In the second clip, I'm overtwanging to get distortion for certain notes, but I'm not that loud. In the last clip, I'm really screaming loud to get distortion, but it doesn't really hurt because I'm trying to keep a relaxed throat, keep the sound in my soft palate and do the power push. I do think it could be tiring to sing like that (the last clip) for a long time, though. Hope to get some pointers, jonpall.
  17. Thanks for the good points! It gives me good ideas to work on.
  18. Thanks, guys! Snax, that was a very good comment. I don't think I gave that much thought. I was probably thinking mostly about the sound of the notes and maybe not as much about the meaning behind the words. This will help me in the future, so thanks, dude! :)
  19. Hi, I'm relatively new on this forum. Here's me singing "Bad moon rising" by CCR: http://www.speedyshare.com/378335898.html It would be fun to hear what you guys think of it. Cheers, jonpall. p.s. sorry about the background noise. I had bad equipment when I recorded this.
