  1. Dude you are awesome. My favourite is your version of the number of the beast.....simply mindblowing

    Thank you, aravindmadis! :)

Well done, Enander. Or, should I say     Red. In style, composition, and performance. The only difference I would have made is one more repitition. After "my last rush," I would have repeated "last rush" and have it kind of high. Everything else was so cool and I can't think of any technical things, which is a good sign.

Haha! Thanks, ronws! :D Yeah, I really should've done that! High-pitched vocals are a staple in the 80s electro pop. I should incorporate it. Good tip for the future!

  2. Sounds really good man!

Regarding the emotion thing, I did not think it sounded robotic or anything like that. This is something I'm not great at myself, but if I have one tip I think it's to kind of "overdo" it but also go the full line. Try to clear your mind of any kind of self consiousness regarding conveying that emotion. When you don't go full out, that's when it sounds half-assed I think. You have to overdo it by a VERY BIG MARGIN for it to become a problem on the other side of the spectrum :)

Keep on writing and producing! :)

Hm! Interesting; I can buy that! I will try that! Thanks! :)

Usually I stress an irrelevant word (to the meaning) or something like that because I think it sounds weak/ugly if I don't do it, but it leads to me projecting a dicey emotion. That's another aspect of the problem, but perhaps it will disappear during

the process of exaggerating the emotion I want project.

Enander, you sound like a full pro. Great voice and a great sound production. If you had posted this in the 80's you'd have a greater success than today, unfortunately this kinda a music is a bit off the market nowadays.

    Thank you, Olem! :D

Haha! You're totally right, but I'm not looking for commercial success. I just want to to whatever I want whenever I want :)

If I wanted to be famous I would join a band and rock it hard.

  3. So, I'm considering this a done deal now. The sound production is still kinda bad (e.g. it's hard to keep that 80's chorus sound effect on the vocals without it sounding like a pitch corrector), but I keep learning stuff all the time.
The vocals are... well, a bit weird (I'm not referring to the lyrics; they're supposed to be wacky. That's a 80's thing :P). I have discovered that my phrasing is really bad. Not that I'm particulary off beat, but I'm struggling with conveying the right emotion when I sing. I try to use nuances in my singing, but it often feels overdone or just inappropriate.

This is probably a "mind thing", but if anyone's got a nice way of thinking when adopting an emotion, tell me! :) I could use some inspiration.

  4. Melodically this is a very hard song, so a great choice! I can't offer you any help because, as far as I can tell, you're on the right track! You're quite sour though, but given the difficulty and the number of vocal lines in the song I'm 100 % sure that you did way better than most people (including me)!  You did a great job!

What strikes me the most is the potential you have in your voice. There are times when your voice really shines through, and you demonstrate a really nice-souding voice! I mean, some people are born with a voice with a sound that will translate well into singing (almost like some people are born with a nice appearance); you seem to be one of them, and that takes you ahead of the game! I'd kill to have been born with a beautiful sound like that haha!

    Keep this up!

  5. I´ve been fan of metal music all of my life but i always thought my voice is too soft/ falsetto style to sing those songs and i still believe so after this try   i sound like 10y old choir boy and i am almost 45y   what do you think?

    >

Even though most people doesn't seem to understand what you mean by "10r old choir boy" I think I do!

I might be the wrong person to say this because I'm kinda reckless I guess, but try to put some aggression to it. Sisu! Scream it like you mean it! :D

I don't think I'm way off when I think you're a bit afraid to feel sore or ruin your voice, but go for it; if it hurts... well, your voice will heal. Just don't do it too often, but you should definitely try and just go all out.

BUT(!), if this is at the very end of your range it is really hard, and I'd say that it's not worth the risk; lower the key and then try instead :)

  6. Thanx for listening, Bzean and Elvis Osmanovic! I´m glad to hear that my timbre sounds great. I will try and study the song more thoroughly and then we will see what comes out, Then if it is still off key  there is not much hope and i will sing just for myself, hehe.

I had problems hearing my singing too when I started out. I still miss some sour notes haha!

I think it is because many of us are focusing on the background music (if there is any) and "the idea" of one's singing. Somewhere in your mind you have an idea of what you want it to sound like (input) and that's what many of us listen to when we're singing, not the actual singing (output). It takes focus to sing and actually listen to what you're singing, and I truly believe that most of us can get a lot better at hearing notes.

  7. Yeah i know my timing sucks. But the problem is that im a baritone and i always wanted to be a tenor. Can a baritone reach tenor range with a little bit of practice?

As far as I know, such terminology is mostly used in classical singing and describes in which register the singer is most comfortable. Don't let mental boundaries hold you back; you learn what you practice :)

    You have potential!

    Also, I believe I hear a Swedish accent; am I correct? :D

  8. Thanx for listening, Enander, i am a great admirer of your singing. Yeah, i think you are right, i am a little lazy when it comes to study a song, i just sing and also i think i am a little tone def unfortunately.

That's an unfair assessment :) It's hard to say whether you're tone deaf or not if you don't know the song. As far as I'm concerned understanding the vocal lines is about half the work. A tip is, if you're having trouble doing/understanding what the vocalist is doing, do something else. Artistic freedom is nice and a great opportunity you incorporate your own spin on it!

  9. As far as timbre goes it's very nice, but you're off pitch and sloppy with the timing. I don't think it means that you're a bad singer. I think that you're just slacking; that you're focusing on some notes and, more or less, ignore the others. I know it's easy to focus on the "killer notes" in a melody and just leave the other notes to rot, but it will diminish the percieved "feeling" of the performance.

My tip would be to listen to the melody more carefully (especially to those short notes) and sing it slowly to incorporate all notes in your performance, and then speed it up to normal.
Since I believe you're a capable vocalist it will probably not take a lot of practice, but it will enhance your performance greatly!

    Good luck!

  10. First off, you're already a top-tier vocalist so... :P

Secondly, it's sounds really good! The song had a nice 80s feel to it, I liked it. Regards to your singing, I think when you went for the higher distortion it kind of went outside of the genre for the rest of the song. I REALLY like that distortion, but it sounds a bit more Dio than.... Aha xD In the context of this song it might sound more cohesive with a little less aggressive distortion. Just an idea :)

    Cheers man and good luck!

Haha! You're way too kind, but I appreciate it! :)

I've had that idea myself, and I believe it has merit, but ultimately I don't mind breaking the genre rules; I kinda like the sense of frustration/aggression the dist brings. If it sounds good per se I'm a happy camper :)

    Thank you!

  11. Hi!

I'm in the process of producing my new song, and I just want to check if my vocals are (kind of) in order. I will never be a top-tier vocalist, but if there's something that's very off-putting let me know! :)
It's so easy to get "stuck in one's way" and miss some dodgy stuff in the performance, so a little help would be nice.

Don't mind the crappy sound production/sound mix. That's not the matter at hand, and I will try to fix that later haha.

(This is an old post. The finished song can be found in an later post)

  12. Thanks! :)

You're definitely right about the low buzz. I believe it's vocal fry too but I'm no expert, haha!

And you're definitely right about me putting more power.

I can put less power but it needs much more practice to sound good, so I didn't use it on this recording.

Yes, I know that feeling all too well haha.

I'm doing the exact same "mistake" when trying to sound like a high-pitched Halford, but I believe that if you practice it consistently your muscles will get used to it and be able to loosen it up a bit and still produce a nice sound.

But am I practicing consistently to put my theory to the test? No, I do not haha! Not even close, but you've got a nice thing going here so test it out :P

  13. Sounds cool!

One thing that catches my attention is a buzz in the lower frequencies, and I guess it's vocal fry.

I'm not saying that it's bad; it widens your sound and is very suitable to some kind of genres, but in regards to Axl Rose's voice it shouldn't really be there.

It sounds like your putting more "pressure/power" (I'm not so updated on the proper lingo) behind your voice than Axl, which I guess is the reason for the "buzz".

If you'd like to sound more like Axl, my advice would be to ease up a bit, but personally I like your voice as it is. Sounds like mix between Axl and a black metal vocalist :D

  14. So, you know, the sempiternal struggle of perfecting one's mixed voice.

I'm trying to add really nice meat to my lower mixed voice, but not so much that it sounds growly.

Just like many people I've looked to Dio and even though I don't sound like him I've learned a few tricks.

It's a very hard technique; if you do something wrong your throat will be soar for a few days. I've got empirical evidence...

Anyway, I want to hear your opinion which iteration sounds best/least shitty.

I went from a very bright and thin sound to a darker and grittier and then back to a bright but more dio-esque sound which frankly is over the top.

To put in context, this is the original vocalist:

...and the note is higher than it sounds like haha.
