  1. Thanks Ron. I don't have Lemmy's bad habits, but I do have his good looks!
  2. My cover of Motorhead's Ace Of Spades. I created this from the ground-up, with me singing, guitaring and bassing, and a friend of mine (Ian Burrage) on drums. As usual, constructive criticism, is welcome. Or just "good job" I recorded this a while ago, but this is a much improved remix I did this week. It's best to listen to this VERY LOUD! :D
  3. I agree, I've posted covers on youtube and soundcloud and never had anything taken down or even had a warning. I'm sure you have no real risk unless somehow you are trying to make money from it.
  4. So I made a start.... https://app.box.com/s/i9h2yhjf1inqri0jrg6h I love the original, but I sound nothing at all like that guy. I wish I did, but I sound like me instead. I'm so far off the original, I'm not sure whether to finish it. My approach has a certian uniqueness LOL!
  5. Keith I liked this, well done. I've never heard the song before, it's great. Where did you get the backer? I fancy giving it whirl myself. George
  6. Elena - I loved the video and song! Validar, I have trained in Aikido for 28 years, and taught it for much of that time. I am too young too have trained with founder (he died when I was 4 years old), but I have studied with several of his direct students, many of whom have now also sadly passed on. Without going into an over-long essay, I would say that Aiikido is not defensive when you are (a) very good, and ( want to use it in a non-defensive way. I have seen some real incidents where this has been the case, and had a number of others recounted to me. George
  7. Thanks Geno. I was very happy with how this came out. I hope I haven't peaked...
  8. Now the final mastered version, updated on the earlier link, repeated here: This came out jolly well ... I hope to do more work with the same guys :)
  9. I have been playing with a VST mastering plug-in "Endorphin" on-and-off since I discovered it a few days ago, and so I updated the mix on the above link.
  10. Superb: singing, production and song writing all good. I didn't think it needed the swirly echo effect to be so strong at 2'23. I always enjoy your work!
  11. I don't know the original... so it's difficult to comment in that context. It's all well articulated, and in tune, which is great! But... 1. it sounds like you are holding back a lot to me, but that might the the required style. 2. a lot of it sounds like falsetto to me where head voice would be nicer, but that might be the required style. To my taste falsetto is a special effect to be used once in a blue moon. It also sounds to me like you are swapping between falsetto and head voice for different words within a line in places, which is odd, but it may be my hearing. Kevin Richards has some good videos on his youtube channel about head voice versus falsetto. But, dont take my criticism to heart, you may have hit it just how you intended....
  12. MDEM - thanks for listening and commenting. I did run through it a few times before I pressed record!
  13. MDEM - thanks, your comments matter to me I find the feedback to get here on the site to be very supportive, and it helps to motivate me. I have had got some good hints over the last 3 years from comments here on both my own work, and on others. I like listening to others sing on the site, even though I dont always comment. Some correspondents here are dauntingly good - I am happy to share a stage with them!, and others are achingly bad - I am happy to share a stage with them aswell.
  14. LOL! I am not used to singing and playing guitar at the same time, so I chose something short. The length of the song is pretty much the same as on the original record "Animals".
  15. Ron - you've got me thinking about Monty Python. I am thinking of doing "The Argument Cinic", rather than the Holy Grail. Watch this space..... In the meantime, I have updated the above link with a slightly different mix. It 's still not final, it's yet to be properly mastered - this is was quickly mastered using a preset. Here is the link repeated:
  16. Ron always tells us how he records everything as if live without overdubs... that's not my way though... usually I overdub and retrack until it's just-so. So, for a change here's me singing and playing guitar at the same time, in a single take with no overdubs. It came out fairly well, although I'll be the first to admit this is in my comfort zone. As usual, constructive ciriticism or just "good job" is welcome. This is the first outing for an acoustic which I bought a few weeks back: a beat-up Simon and Patrick Dreadnought. I recorded it via the built-in pickup. I'm not happy with this recorded sound, but I've never recorded an acoustic before, so I consider it's not too bad for a first attempt.
  17. Thanks Ron and Chavie. Ron: I think it is among my best so far. I have one perhaps even better in the pipeline, a prog rock epic which is almost 20 minutes long. I am Monty Python fan Chavie: I was proud of the harmony work. Increasingly I think of "counter-point" when creating harmonies, so the harmony line moves in a different melodic direction to the main line. It adds to the listener's interest, and singer's challenge.
  18. A work-in-progress mix of my latest song: "Dreams Of Eternity" As usual, contructive criticism is welcome, or just "good job". I was influenced on my singing approach and melody lines here by Robert Lunte's "Souls Of Silence". There's some classy guitar playing by my friends Rick Lamoreaux (USA) and Justin Elliot (UK). I enjoyed a thespian moment with the recital of the poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost at the start. If you stick with it after the first 1'20 it gets a lot rockier! I feel I am making gradual progress with vocals. I'm not where I want to be yet, but I am getting there. I was all overdrive and grit a couple of years ago, but I have more dynamic and technique now. Also my higher range comes much more easily. The progress is due to many things: listening, practising, working with some good musos on good original material, doing courses (Ken Tamplin, Kevin Richards), and no little part due to this site and Robert Luntes free videos (I am a cheapskate). I think also what is helping is the acceptance that I am me, and not RJD, or Ian Gillan or any of those other heroes, but also that nobody sings like me, and maybe that's good and something I can work with. George
  19. Ron - that was great. Irish Cowboys (their hats anyway) and made me recall this (spoof) TV news video from an Irish comedy show:
  20. I woke up intending to work on one of my original songs, but checked this site and saw this Dio thread, which I must have missed previously. So I tracked (most) of "Man On The Silver Mountain", although I ran out of steam before doing the ad lib section at the end. It's just a single recording session (and I've never sung this song before), whereas for one of my original recordings I spend several sessions, retracking the dodgy bits until I am happy. I thought I'd post it anyway, warts-and-all. https://app.box.com/s/3xcjczhm4oh2iwye3tc6 George
  21. I visited this thread to listen but the links were removed or don't work. :(
