  1. Thanks Ron, that's my point really. With the CC thing it's not really my intention even though it is one of his songs. Just as i said in my original post something is just not clicking with it for me and i feel like i hit a brick wall. I'm really just trying to make it sound good but already a few of the tips i have received are giving me some better results, but as Geno said i will have to work a couple of weeks with this to improve, hopfully. As for Syd Barret, i'm not sure Ron too much LSD i geuss I have heard that too, the funny thing is is i feel like i get it sometimes but its just not something I have on call. I think sometimes I'm too busy listing for the sound quality rather than focusing on the feeling and staying relaxed. Tension in the neck is obviously a big no no but what about in the stomach area, just when applying grit? I've been wondering this for a while too?
  2. Can you describe your method for adding grit. Sometimes you really get a Dio vibe on your screams Jugulator . Is this strictly from pushing more air, or are you doing something in the throat? Vocal fry etc?
  3. Sounds like your pushing way too hard Pullingteeth1. It's tough to find the balance of air pressure to make this work but with time it will come. if you haven't already tried this put your fingers just under your cheek bones to take the weight of a bit and you should get it, however once you have got it try to do it without as you really want your face to relax on its own. Another small tip is to lick your lips before attempting this. It seems a little strange but it actually helps. Good luck
  4. Thank you Geno and Jugulator, for your detailed response. I'm really thinking that compression could be the key to this but it just seems to be hard to get the right balance support wise i always end up tensing up in my stomach. when you do this do you fell any sort of gripping sensation near the soft palette?
  5. Enander, these are awesome!! amazing singing especially the Maiden cover imo. I'm pleased you have been able to turn your hatred for your neighbours into fuel for the FIRE!!! I subbed you on YT, can't wait to hear more. :D
  6. Nice Jugulator, some of the gritty screams in there had a huge Dio vibe congrats, and cool song too  I did have to laugh at 0:16s in though your face with the smoke, looks like you have just noticed you have burned something in the oven.
  7. Thanks again guys, if it s just a simple case of havng to be coser to the mic i'll kick myself but ill give it another try tonight and compare the results. Vowel modification in that area is such a tricky thing. Trying to find the right one that will release properly but yet still make 90% of the words understandable and then try to make it sound good too. Sorry Pavloff, I cant do anything about the hi-hats, it's just a backing track.
  8. Evening all, So I was working through Rusty Cage by SG tonight in the 40 mins i had after work lol. and this end section is driving me crazy!! I never seem to be able to get much power on it. If you were in the room with me you would be able to hear how loud it is when i'm singing, but it just doesnt seem to translate to the mic https://soundcloud.com/jonathan-graham1-0/rusty-cage-end-section Do you guys think it is ok sounding, or any tips for improving it? Many thanks
  9. Thanks again Ron, I wish I could write a song like that. it's one of the greats for sure.
  10. No there is no limit to posting (I don't think ) but imo maybe just leave it to a couple of threads a day just to give people a chance to hear the clip in your post and leave some feedback for you. Too many and some of your stuff is likely to get missed. Welcome.
  11. Falsetto or head in the sound clip is debatable and a boing topic at that Bottom line is, if you can make a sound up there with time and patience you can build on it. I think Ron's tip on this is spot on. Use it as a warm up and gradually lean into the sound remembering to push down with the diaphragm. Try not to do too much with this and burn out but definitely continue down this path Congrats on your breakthrough Buddy. You'll be screaming out "Under A Glass Moon" next week at your rate. :D
  12. No not D2. that's about as low as I can go lol!. Most of the time i speak around G2 but in the morning E2/F2 is more prominent. There you go.... Excuse the wurring sound, I just quickly recorded it through my laptop mic and the internal fans are going a bit crazy. I liked your version on this Ron, you sounded like you were enjoying it. I don't normally sing this song like this as i much prefer the original, but you did ask for the J cash version :D
  13. Thanks for the feedback as usual guys. i'm pleased you liked it as i really wasn't sure if it worked or not. Some songs just seem hard to change from the original. your spot on. I will try to refine it as i was just improvising really trying to make it fit with what I was hearing in my head. Thanks Ron, it's something i've always had trouble with as it just doesn't seem to fit my personality. hpfully with more live performances and confidence it may evolve. Your place in the 80's sounded cool. Piano in the living room! i want that. hope you are still having as much fun.
  14. Interesting, I just always assumed that was the case. thanks for the tip. Thanks MDEW for looking further into my stuff. To be honest most of that stuff on there is just to try and monitor my progress as i go along but it could sure use some views so it's much appreciated!! :D
  15. Evening all Just having a go a few songs tonight to mess with the arrangements. do you feel this works? All comments good and bad welcome as usual  Thanks for your time.
  16. Thanks Jugulator! That's interesting you say that as I'm definitely not a tenor. My speaking voice generally sits around G2 - E2.
  17. Thats great man you will be amazed at how quickly that note and above will become usable but more importantly the F's, G's and A's etc. Just don't get pissed the days its not there. It will be back I badly need an upgrade myself i know the feeling. my laptop is on it's last legs.
  18. hahahaha Ron thats cold man! By the way could you take a look at Xamedhi's new thread he has a question about the feeling of singing above c5 maybe you could give your take on the sensation?
  19. For me it feels like its all happening above the vocal cords. I know that sounds silly as everything is happening there, but the sound is so focused toward the soft palette that its almost like a Tee Pee getting smaller the higher you go. I hope others can give their thoughts on this too. Do a lot with the Pharyngeal exercises in the SLS programme as that is an amazing way to take the voice higher with no weight. Even just saying "hung" the "ng" part of the word that is what your looking for in the sound. hold that sound and take it up as high as you can keeping your throat open. I bet you get to C5 right now. Now that tone is no good for singing, but sirening like that a few times a day is a great way to build strength without taking too much weight up in the mix voice and with time you will see it will iron out the break. Hope that makes some sense.
  20. It's like magic Ron, the Key is to sing as high as you can while standing on your head, but dont forget to sing "OH" through "OO" lips.
  21. I think you should keep on that track for now man i've done the SLS stuff too I liked it as i got some notes i didn't know I had (head voice in general) and it's like every time you go to there you're building the strength and muscle memory while ironing out the break. it just seems to take a lot of patience I've gotta tell you though i've never had better results than with the Ken Tamplin stuff. Look into it if your spending money a few months down the line.
  22. Just incase anyone takes offence I really have the utmost respect for Brett.....but this is funny!!
