  1. Oh and I probably should of said this earlier, but speak to me in 5-year-old-daddy-I-want-to-sing speak. My music teacher (manditory in middle school where I go too) has never been very good at occuping my rather short attention span, and my music teacher also was not a very good teacher. Sometimes, you just gotta give up on the song matching puzzles. Anyway, I learned about 1 term under her and that term is 'Note.' Turns out, more than just a piece of paper with writing on it. But aside from that, nada. I can't read music at all, I do recognize the term saprano (forgive my spelling, autocorrect is not being helpful 'sales no') thanks to help from America's favorite coaches on the voice, but I'm not sure if it's low or high (high I'd bet on). So again, ease speak to me as if I know nothing, (I'm above that with my 'note'), because I virtually know nothing. I'm the oddest person to pick singing to pursue. I'm 5'10" (may of have butchered the order of " and '), I'm fast, I'm strong, I'm ugly. All of these make me a basketball player, and while I will be playing for my team, I don't believe I will take this to the NBA, who have also failed to grasp my attention span with their long seasons. But apart from that, music has always been so far away from me. Even in modern music people will say a band and I'll have no clue who it is. The term 'singing' was lost on me for 12 years. Then I had kidney surgery (sucks by the way don't try it). They play the strangest songs in hospitals and for whatever reason, I took to singing. 13 years down the drain, but I still got old plenty more to go. So right about you're wondering why I'm telling you all this. Well the reason is it's 1 in the morning and I'm tired and I can't go to sleep so I type without thinking really. But the main point is that speak to me like I know nothing. Like ugh as apposed too saying the official word, please just say deep voice. Much appreciated for the thoughts, and for the patience if you ever get to this point. -Codyknight22
  2. @Ron I like you, and if I were to ever show my Dad that post, he would be proud. I checked out the song and I think I'll get a little more comfortable with it before I sing it. Thank you for the song choice and not subjecting me to Bieber. Just thanks Ron. (Also note that I say proud because my Dads friend cut off his finger in a blender while my Dad worked in resteraunts, the next day the comments he got were, how are the guitar lessons going, strawberry milkshakes on sale, etc. After someone cuts off his finger, it's polite to insult them in my family ).
  3. THANK YOU! You have no idea how happy I am to see a song suggestion. I had such a hard time picking o e and this one makes some sense. I have a deep voice (so everyone tells me) and this song doesn't quite require the notes that some of the others do. Thank you do much Adon. -Codyknight22
  4. Thanks Adon and thanks Ron. I have plenty of pillows to sing into and as long as I don't get too much spit in them, I'll be fine. For the future Ron, I come from a long line of smart alecks, so those kind of remarks are more than welcome in my book. Plus I think showing a video of me in the shower might be illegal... And I have no idea how my parents would react to me wanting to improve on singing. I'm sure I'd get at least attaboys from my mom with lots a smart remarks from my dad. But truth be told I'm afraid to tell my parents about this. I'm too afraid to tell anyone about this. On the Internet I'm anonymous. My real name is 't even Cody, that's my dogs name, (he has heard me sing, he won't say too much about it). But here, I can expect all the abuse in the world from you guys. My resime consists of 1 musical, which I refused to sing in... That's how afraid I am, I don't even want to SING IN A MUSICAL. I'm here for feedback and confidence. And it's amazing what you can learn about yourself, for example, I never really knew how nasally my voice was until omming here. I'll continue to learn and continue to try and improve with a new song comming on Monday(shoutout to veterans day) for a new song, and here's the o e question that I could never answer, what song choice do you think I should do? I don't care if I've never heard of it, or if I like it, but what song (no Bieber is my only request) do you think I should do? Just this once answer me (types while on my knees) for that question. I should probably end this right now before my parents walk into the room or I forget what window this is and I close it. Thanks again to you both for helping a lot throughout these 3 songs. -Codyknight22
  5. Thanks again Adon, and if you want a video of me being louder it may take a while. My parents (I'm 13 in case someone reads this next bit and is confused) don't know about all of this, and I don't plan on them knowing for a little bit. Making videos is tough, and unless you want a video of me in the shower, you (and I) will have to be patient in terms of videos. My only chance for 2 weeks to make a video and it manifests itself as a time when everyone is asleep. So it may be a bit longer than I would hope for for a new video, and I'm sorry because the length of time it takes is all on me not having enough courage to tell my parents I want singing advice.:(
  6. Big thing is always feedback for me. I tried this a couple of times and the karaoke versions were just not working for me so I decided to do a version without karaoke, and voila here we are. I had to sing quietly so that I don't wake anyone up at my house. I do play a bit to my nasaly quality, but I hope it's not obnoxious and if it is, let me know. Anyway more feedback to try and help me improve as this website has already done so much for me. Here's the video:
  7. Thank you all for this. I know I haven't said much on here for a while, but I want to ask a question. I have recently heard a few covers on Amy Whinehouse's You Know That I'm No Good, and I just want to ask if anyone thinks that this is a good idea with my voice (assuming of course that I'll stay on pitch). I also want to ask if you think that it would be a good idea to play along a bit of nasally quality to my voice. I just want to know if anyone could let me know.
  8. Ron you are really good. And trust me, when a 13 year old kid with no expirence and who think they know everything think you're good, you're good.
  9. Now that is a nice voice. It sounds very "clean." Really good seeing as of how you're 15. You've got a lot of talent and I can not give you any real advice, unfortunately. But to answer your question, you can sing.
  10. I know I haven't replied in a while, and I know that song choice can be a huge issue for the person, but being naive comes with the ultimate consiquence of not knowing much of a good song choice. I, so far, have only picked songs that I think are good for my voice, but let's face it, they're not. I'm truly at loss for what song I need to pick next. Please someone, give me a song to sing. Because I don't I ow what to pick. I thought try a song like She's Gone. But I don't sound very good at that either (damn my nose). Just one song choice, please. Codyknight22
  11. I'm in the same boat as you. My IPod (from which I am currently viewing this from) does not support adobe flash. I can't view your song, but I have a bit of relation to you. I have this much expirence, 0. I am 13, while you are 15 (but what difference does 2 years make). I have a lot of respect for you, dropping your pride and asking for help. I have no clue about you, but being a teenager makes you think you know it all, and being on this forum is very humbling to one (slightly cocky) teenager. I give you a tremendous amount of credit, and hearing that word that people like using with you, (potential), makes me a little bit jealous of you. From what I hear (hopefully with my own ears soon) you have some talent, and I wish that more people could realize how that does very little for you very fast. I like the fax that you are fully prepared to accept that talent isn't enough and that with some help, you'll do well. Also:P I wish I had some real talent . My real critique (because me opinion means so much) is coming soon and I wish you all the luck in the world. Codyknight22
  12. Thanks for the excersize ideas. I think those will get me a lot better. But in terms of song choice, any ideas?
  13. My last song was terrible. I really needed a song more {hopefully} suited to my voice. So I decided to go with a song a little softer, a little less pop-y, and a song that I hope I can use as a stepping stone to improving. So I chose Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars. I don't know if someone did it first, but I don't think anyone did. Anyway I'm hoping for more feedback, maybe a song suggestion? But hope everyone enjoys this song, from Codyknight22.
  14. Oh okay. Thank you for your advice, and I'm already trying to break out of that habit. Thanks.
  15. @Lord and @Tommy Tommy, the camera that I was using happens to show movement a bit late so thats why it seems so weird. But I have to agree with you in the sense that it was not working out so well for me as a whole. And Lord, I'll check stuff out and see what I want to try to pursue and hopefully get better. As to the both of you, this is the first real advice I have ever gotten so that you guys so much for that.
  16. @Lord_Adōn That's my main problem. I'm 13 and I don't really have a clear direction in terms of genre, and when I started to reject the modern day music {rap and auto tune}, I cut off the music world by a lot. That part I regret. I don't play instruments at all. That's why I came here. I'm in some need of a little bit of guidance. Or a lot of guidance as you can probably tell. So just any song that you think my voice is equipped to do would be good. Thank you again and if you can't answer the question, I'm fine with that. You've already helped out a lot.
  17. Thank you Lord_Adōn. You have no idea how much that helps me and how much that will make it easier on me. I listened to it and yes I was off pitch, and my voice is really deep, not at all like Adam Lavines {lead singer of Maroon 5, not sure if I spelt his name right}, and volume was an issue. But, now that I have some advice, I can view it from a non-bias view point. Lastly any recommendations? Any idea's for a song maybe that I could try out? But either way thank you so much for your advice. -Codyknight22
  18. So here is my first post, and the number one feedback I'm looking for is whether or not I can actually sing. I do not know personally, nor has anyone ever really heard me sing. So here it is, One More Night and hopefully I will know. {Also note that the back vocals came with the karaoke version on youtube and forgive my camera quality}. {Also note I realize my voice went way out of whack in a couple of places and I apologize for that}.
