  1. Lmao. I'd love to add some Dave Mustaine to the mix, to heat up the ambient haha That dude is problematic xD
  2. Hahaa!! I love that song Please, I'd love to help you with anything you'd like. Don't hesitate on sending me sounds, songs or whatever, I always have time to analyze and listen to interesting stuff. I know technically I am not as proficient, but I have an important artistic background and knowledge of interpretation, as I am a dancer. I'd love to learn from you and I hope I can help you learn things too.
  3. Indeed, ronws, and I think you kind of misunderstood my point. But anyway, hehe Also, yes... we should always sing with our voice, becuase we are us and not others... and that is the line we have to find, that divides what we can do and what we can't. Which is simply, what feels right with your voice. Even if it is difficult, there are muscles that maybe haven't developed and in time you will adapt. Other things might require a bigger resonating space, for example, and as much as you train your shaping and manipulation... you cannot change the shape or size of your skull, your neck, etc.. And trying to do something that requires that may be harmful. Was I clear ? hahah I don't wanna be misunderstood again, lol.
  4. What I am talking about has nothing to do with MY, or YOUR ability to cover anything. We are talking about cold and objective fold, shaping, breath and timing usage, and what do we HEAR in James interpretation of the song. And why I put a lot of emphasis on "HEAR"? Because everyone has a tendency to hear different things in music. Maybe he doesn't hear the same things as me, or you, or slstone. If I shared something was just to try to point with a finger ( because physically here I can't ) what I was referring to. I'm only trying to help Manolito, because I like his voice a lot, and he has an incredible range, so what he is lacking is just the solidness and confidence to just do whatever the hell he wants to do and sound with his voice. Also Manolito, I quite agree with you about LaBrie's lows. I have heard him in Winter Rose, his solo work, Ayreon, Dream Theater... and there is always a constant: his lows always tend to be breathy and kind of power-lacking, compaerd to his highs. Why that breathy thing going on? I have no idea, haha. It could be a stylistic thing he does on purpose, almost always, or it could be a technical issue of his ( which I don't think it is), but certainly he has a lot of control over his M1 anyways. I used to to it a lot too, becuase it just felt more LaBrie-ish, lol. But now I don't like it because it doesn't feel right on my folds anymore.
  5. Manolito, in fact the high notes are the ones that sound better and seems that you control them more.. You are able to slide better in the note transitions and stuff. I think your lower and lower-medium register is where you have more "problems" ( I say problems, because it is not a problem by itself, it's just that how LaBrie sings the song is difficult to pull off, because of aaall the dynamics he is so used to play with ), where others have more control and able to apply a lot more stylistic resources than in the higher part of the range ( Like me hahah.. well, but I'm just discovering my headvoice so I'm not frustrated... yet, lol ). You seem to be a weird fish in this sea, man. Kind of like a Shiny Pokémon hahah EDIT: Also.. you don't sound straining at all. Well, you can't actually hear strain... but your high notes sound very nice, only thinner. Not strained or "closed-throat-ed" haha ... Sounds very good to me, man I'd suggest you to.. just play more with dynamics and style... try to imitate LaBrie.. Tate, dunno... Whatever singer strikes your fancy and just experiment with different effects... like... wider slow vibrato for the "power" feel.. a quick vibrato to "mark" the tempo of the particular part of the song ( Like Michael Kiske does a lot in the Helloween recordings ). OOH! Listen a lot to Jørn Lande! He has some incredible control of distortion, dynamics, pitch and rythm... I know your voice is not as deep, big or dark as his haha... But it is excellent for studying and just learning more stuff. I know you have studied a lot of things, and man, in fact I admire you, for your determination of making music your life, so take my opinion just as a grain of salt, haha.
  6. Niiice! Well, first I have to say that I am a BIG fan of DT and James.. hahah I don't know if that is good or bad for you in this situation, lol. Your range is astounding, no doubt about it, I have seen other posts of yourself and you have .. what.. like 5 octaves? lol That is overkill haha! Range is not an issue. At all. Pitch... Well, like 75-80% of the song was on pitch, like the original, BUT, the other percentage is not that it is not on pitch, maybe it harmonizes, but I am used to hear, and to sing too.. James variation of pitches, say ascending or descending, in a very... Veeeery specific timing. And that's the challenge. Timing and "feel" is what makes this song's dynamics shine. It is a veeery difficult song, it has a little breathy here, a descending X note to Y note in Z amount of time there... So congrats for singing this in front of a crowd with no preparation. I don't know if you get what I mean... I'd like to post a recording, but I am done for today. I'm "cold" and can't make more recordings either, hahah ( If I don't let mom listen to te TV I get a heatshot with a shoe or something, lmao ) Please tell me if you understood my point I'd like to send you, or show you a recording I did today, where I try to use and "dance" as much as I could with "Wait for Sleep" dynamics. EDIT: Here it is !! https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann/dream-theater-wait-for-sleep
  7. I think it was awesome! I love DT, and listened to your song two or three times because I really enjoyed listening to it, and that's a cool compliment haha. I have listened to a cover you did of Stratovarius some time ago, and I think your headvoice work is getting better and better. We have a similar issue with our headvoice, and that is vocal folds adduction so we can sound "fuller", I'm glad you are progressing on that matter Keith, by the way, I've been looking for a backing track of this song for a while, could you send me the one you have, please? I'd really appretiate it.
  8. Thanks Ron for your comments, heheh! I wish I could sing it very edgy like Geoff, haha But I still haven't developed that kind of strenght yet, and still have hooours to work on my passaggio :'( ha ha. Of course I know I won't sound like him.. but you know I mean the intention of the voice, he heh I have progressed a lot on my support in these last days, as I am reading the CVT book, and I have had the time to just think about sensations and muscles. I think ballet has developed a control over my diafragm and abdominal muscles that I wasn't aware of so I am reeeally going to take advantage of that. In a week or two I'll think of adventuring again on a Queensrÿche song :P
  9. akarawd, yeah.. I'd love to be able to play the guitar hahah.. but unfortunately I don't have the time to learn something more for the moment And about the "lightness" haha .. yeah.. I'd love to sound edgy and "full voice", but for a lot of time I was speaking and singing with a very relaxed glottis and very breathy. Man, I started to lose my voice after 10 minutes of continuous talking. I'm working on that now Now that I found what compression, TA.. CA, twang.. means, he heh.. now everything makes sense to me. I'm working hard on that fold closure, lol. Thanks for the input :D
  10. I've been listening to your recordings, guys.. and they are awesome ;D After doing my excercises the other day I sang some stuff and recorded it for listening later. It sounds, to my ears, ha ha.. acceptable, so I'll post it here. Please, guys, listen to it and share any thoughts! n.n https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann/queensr-che-revolution-calling
  11. Man, you are a year younger than my dad Ron, you are earning a place as a very influential person in my development as a singer, and philosophy of life hehe It is so strange to learn this much, and to think about so many things in life just by posting a recording in a forum. Well, it's not just any forum either, he heh.. I have read a loooot of things in this forum and you always appear as one of the most objective people around, with a lot of knowledge and information to share. And the best thing is that you share it without holding back, haha! You are a great person I am eager to show you in some time from now my progress, maybe it is not relevant to you hahah.. but without knowing... unconsciously, you are one of the people who has guided me, put me on the right track on this journey.. to develop the singer I am and will be, heheh. Thanks again :)
  12. Thanks rowns I don't know how old are you, but your knowledge and experience is invaluable. Thank you so much See you around. Keep rocking _\m/
  13. ronws!!! You make my day everytime you reply on my stuff heheh Well, you have pointed a lot of things I have thought of previously. Funny thing that you talk about all those explanations... I am used to them, I like to go "naked" and expose myself this way. Maybe it is totally unconscious, I don't know.. I think it helps me grow in some kind of way.. makes me stronger. I totally agree with you in that aspect of the "fair" listening to others. I am really going to take your advice from now on heheh... About that "crashing"... I absolutely think it is something unconscious, due to the band and the singer I am so used to listen to. I have an intrinsic ability to copy, mimic, memorize singer's dynamics, articulation.. accents, mistakes too, for my demise, hahah So yeah.. it is this song/band's particular thing and I didn't notice I did that when listening before uploading, heheh. I will try to avoid interpreting "so close to the original" as far as I unconsciously do. I think in the future I, and my voice, will appreciate it, haha. Thank you very much ronws for the input I am always eager to read your generally long, full of insight, sometimes humourus replies. PD: "No me hables de amor" in english means "Don't talk to me about love" :P
  14. I wanted to share with you this recording! To show you, guys how progress is going.. and of course because today I was in the mood for singing and I freaking love this song. It is a capella, so just me and my tempo skills, heheh... I skip the instrumental parts always, because I get bored, lol. There are a lot of parts where I am off pitch, but with time when I have more control over my bridging and muscle control over my headvoice I will do better. The singer of this band has a very similar style.. so it was a good choice of a song, as I can't do a fat, big headvoice sound yet. He sings very light up there so I don't have to force anything too much either. This is what I can do today. Thanks for any replies in advance https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann/no-me-hables-de-amor
  15. Nice! I liked a lot your voice Like ronws said, there is not much I can say, except for: read a lot, experiment, excercise and keep loving it. I love singing, and to some extent I can say that I can express myself more freely to some extent compared to dancing. I am a ballet dancer .. And singing is the only thing for which I would stop dancing. I joined this forum recently and I'm loving it, ha ha.. I'm very active here so if you wanna discuss, share or study toghether I am always available. I love to learn things from other people and share knowledge. As for vibrato.. Well, there is a lot of stuff you could practice to learn how to use vibrato. What kind of music do like and listen to more?
  16. Thanks a lot guys for the help and suggestions Today I practiced that a lot.. 100% working on my support, and my speaking voice was the same before and after all my excercises ( I'm doing some stuff on the SS program.. the basic stuff, but it helps me memorize the new coordinations I am learning now ), so I guess I'm on the right track. PD: By the way, I am a fan of yours Jens, ha ha... I saw a lot of your youtube videos yesterday and you are amazing. Have an incredible range and a very cool colour, heh. Also you always seem to know what you're talking about lol I learned a lot yesterday by watching your stuff. Have you thought about working as a vocal coach?
  17. Thanks for your time I cut these pieces of this song to show you... it's quite nasal but to get the hang of the pharyngeal sensation it helps a lot. https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann/shamandalie-pedazos EDIT: I don't think it's really important, it is more just to add some background and for you to know more my voice, hehe .. I loved the forum and will stick for a while here. EDIT 2: Now I notice, I hadn't heard that Maiden song in a while and I am very off pitch. But you catch the idea of what I was trying to do, lol
  18. Well, it's late and I can't record anything for now.. but I can put some of the stuff I was playing with today. Hope it helps. Listen to the last "for your lives" , that's my chest voice blending in. Sorry again for the wimpy voice, I got a lotta work to do to make it sound good. https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann/maiden-asd
  19. Well as ronws said, that sharpness and resonance is the difference. Falsetto is a breathy sound without resonance. Rob has talked about it, Jaime Vendera and Kevin too. I have the concepts fairly clear. Thing is people still uses the word "falsetto" to talk about male's headvoice.. I don't know why, it just messes concepts up and confuses people. I guess the majority of people here talks about headvoice or "reinforced falsetto" as I had heard some too.
  20. Well... If we consider the difference between falsetto and headvoice the adduction of the vocal folds, then it is head voice. I know what falsetto feels and it's definition. Of course it is weak, and is thin, very nasal and "feels fake" because I just discovered it and have to get used to it, and then add chest quality by playing with my larynx and overall placement and resonances. Today I managed to do this from high to low and viceversa. Quality is a bit better than yesterday because the room has less reverb. https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann/experimenting
  21. I was practicing and playing with my stuff... and.. man, I can't believe this... I'm still laughing about it. A few days ago I "struggled" to get to an A/B4 ... Have been reading some Jaime Vendera stuff today and got really motivated to try and experiment.. If you have heard my Spirit Carries On cover.. you will be aware of my breathiness and my problem to connect my focal folds. Today a lot of problems seem to have dissappeared and new doors open. A new system, a new world for me.. lol Please listen to this descending sirens I have just recorded. they are not falsetto.. at all. That is my freaking headvoice, lol... because of my airyness I am well aware of what a falsetto feels, damn, My chest voice tends to be falsetto-ish when I speak. As I said, I had no idea I could do this... please share my happiness, lol The last siren was the best I think.. I went higher.. but on the second one I think I had a better sound on the highest pitch. https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann/new-coordination-found PD: I though this could be the wrong section.. maybe gains and progress would be better? idk.. well, nevermind -And now that I think of it the first 2 are not actually "sirens" but I haven't thought what name that has, lol
  22. Thanks! And thank you for that brief explanation about the harmonics and resonance heheh.. If I wasn't studying classical ballet, I would be studying physics and ingeneering. Indeed, the high parts that sound like falsetto.. are not actually falsetto, it was a very lightly connected headvoice... my muscles are still not strong enough at that pitch, I just found out yesterday I have been gaining strengh, heheh Last week I couldn't do that A4 at the end "spirit carries OOOOON".. and now I was able to hit briefly some B's or A#'s idk.. without totally disconnecting. As I said I am recording in a very crappy mic, on my mp4, lol.. so I have to sing 2 metres away from it to avoid saturation and stuff. Actually what you are hearing is loud... I mean, very :S My dad knows I'm arriving home when I'm still walking 2 blocks away, hahah I've been told Singing Success, Brett Manning's program tends to develop small and overcompressed voices, but as I have problems with my compression and edge, tending always to the airyness, and already have very resonant voice those are the least of my concerns. I have never commited to go full-voice-developing mode, as I didn't have the means or the information to be able to do that. Now that I have an excercise guide and have read a toooon of stuff the improvements I've seen in these past 2 weeks are awesome. I wanna see how I feel in 6 months. Thanks again Ronws !
