  1. Haha, don't mind me, Ron, it was good advice nonetheless. Now, I ought to ask again.. where can I buy a cheap musician brother? lol
  2. Hahaha, where do I buy one, mate? Thanks for your input, Ron. It's nice to have positive feedback when you work your a-off everyday. I have a good repertoire of backing tracks, haha, but not necessarily songs that I love or that I already know, it's hard to find stuff from Conception, Jorn, Ayreon. I have a lot of low to mid quality of Dream Theater backing tracks, haha. I record mostly without music because I am usually short of time. And that's the fastest way I can go from song to song, or repeat certain part that wasn't so well. I am very perfectionist and OCD with some things, and the times I recorded songs with music I was like an hour recording just that one song, haha, and another 3 hours of editing, lol.
  3. Hey, Gneetapp! Thanks for posting. Well, the power in the high notes is basically what I've been working. Directly and indirectly by working a lot on my lower and mid chest voice strength. I sing, though, after I have finished my vocal workout, which is like 45 mins including pauses, so I am kind of tired when I sing after it. And although it sounds thinner when I record due to this, during the exercises it is a lot more powerful and adducted. So when I sing I focus on doing it correctly ( the vowel, the resonance ). At my level I think that's acceptable (?), I don't wanna push too much to get the same sound I get rested. If you notice, on the second recording when it says "Worldchangeeer, soul rearranger" sounds kind of shaky and thin at parts. I'll record them again when I have more time As for the backing track :c I can never find good backing tracks for what I like to sing, haha. Thanks again, mate.
  4. First of all you sing with very low energy. It's a very energetic song, which is why I like that song so much, it's very uplifting. Singing it an octave lower makes it hard to give it the same energetic delivery, and it could be hard also to give it that funky feel. He is also quite nasal so the sound is very bright which contributes to that. Use the half-smile that Felipe Carvalho explains in one of his videos. I think that could help you.
  5. Hey I've been training seriously since November by myself and progress has been non stop And have taken lessons with CunoDante these last two months and my voice has changed a lot with him. What I want to achieve ultimately is a voice with a lot of weight capable of doing very high belts like Jorn Lande or Russell Allen. Also, I've been listening a lot of Jorn's solo stuff, which has a very bluesy feel and I really like that style. This is a clip of practice today, a song called House of Cards by Jorn. I compressed the vocals quite a bit and then amplified all, loud stuff sounds too loud compared to the overall thing. Let me know what you hear in my voice, if you like the style, the trills' execution, the timbre or emotion.. those are the main things I've been working on songs lately. UPDATE ( haha ): Another clip I recorded before these two, it's a cool song. This one has a very bluesy feel. And here is another clip, Worldchanger, but I was kind of tired so the highs sound a bit shaky to my ears, and are not as adducted. Thanks in advance for any input, guys :)
  6. It works very well, MDEW I really liked it. What happens to me is that whenever I listen to someone's voice I make a visual image of it. I picture something like this ==== . A "stream" of voice of some sort, and depending on the different aspects of that voice I see for example, the "limits" of that voice band. The lines that define the ends. Also I can "see" the metallic quality of the voice in that image, or the depth. For example, Ron's voice, I see it similar to mine. It's kind of a medium sized band, blurry in the "lines that define the ends", it's more mellow, and is not very metallic. I see it as a kind of "cloud" with not much "tempest" going on. Not a lot of "noise" ( as in no signal TV noise, white noise ). Your voice, in contrast, is a thinner band ( smaller voice ), but has a more metallic feel than Ron's. You can clearly hear those "grains" making noise. Your "ends" are more defined, it's a "sharper" voice.
  7. Hey! Nice that you uploaded a video, it's better to figure out what's happening. Well, you are singing in a very low volume, that's why your voice hasn't developed more strength. You have a good sense of pitch, and the times that you where slightly off pitch I think was because your technique doesn't follow your ear and because you kind of forgot the part, haha. The first thing I noticed is that your body is not connected to your voice. It seems you don't know yet how to use correct breath support. ( It's the same sensation like when you inhale the smoke from a cigarette and try to speak while not not to letting it out ) I like your timbre, although it will probably sound different when you start to sing with power, so when singing loud, don't be afraid to sound different to what you sound like right now. The same thing happened to me when I started gaining strength with my training I watched your old videos and it seems that you where pretty breathy back then ( 2 years ago ). Singing Avril Lavigne stuff probably has lead you to somewhat get rid of that breathyness, which is good. Your tone is clearer now. I think that to make considerable progress you only need to train correctly and consistently. There is also a psychological part in there too, as being shy obviously hampers your voice in that "loud" and "powerful" side.
  8. Hey! I liked it pretty much ! The one I liked the most is the one where Ron sings lead. That high harmony you are singing MDEW sounds very nice. To me it gives a very different feel than the other version. Ron has a more "melancholy" feel when he sings lead on this, and it sounds cool contrasted with the thinner, more piercing/metallic sound of MDEW. Try to be more spot on with the phrasing next time, Ron. It sounds kind of blurry sometimes and in some parts you kind of.. enter or go to the next phrase kind of "displaced"(?). And I know you don't have as much control over your lower range compared to your high range, but I also know you can do better in the lowest notes if you keep practicing, mate :D
  9. I thought your pronunciation was good The only thing that I'd like is that you where more clear with the intonation of the phrases and add a little vibrato here and there, kind of like Dean Martin does. Your tone is cool. Pretty dark and I think your voice is big. When you develop your voice more and can sing more easily in the C4-F4 range you will probably sound very big and powerful. I think your voice type would suit anything as long as you KNOW how to make it fit, haha. That's the key I guess. I'm trying to figure that out too. Keep singing what you like. Try different things, it's always productive, but don't sing stuff you don't like. Always enjoy singing :)
  10. I looked somewhat fast so I might be wrong, but I think the song spans from a G2 to a C4
  11. You had problems in the same part again haha There are other slight pitch issues, but that part in 00:21 is really noticeable. You sing completely different pitches, but in the next phrase you do the note right. You kind of siren up a bit and just touch the note, but that means that you CAN sing that note. Listen again to that part and try to get the pitches right Play the song phrase by phrase, and then without music sing each phrase. Your ear will get a lot better and you'll develop your ability to memorize melody :D
  12. It's kind of hard to hear your voice clearly because it seems you added some effect. This makes your sound and Dean Martin's voice kind of merge in tone. You where very very off pitch in 00:21. I like your tone. It fits very well with this kind of song.
  13. I recommend to use one of the sites like SoundCloud, Box or Dropbox to show your clips to others. It's easier and it is not required to download anything. I'll let you know when I've listened to it. c:
  14. Not much really. Just try to give it more space so it can resonate more and sound bigger, maybe twang a little bit more so it sounds even fuller.
  15. I really like your voice in this kind of songs, Ron. Your voice is like.. funny! Comical and lighthearted Which makes your interpretation even more likable. As you know, quite a lot of big and famous singers have distinctive flaws that give them character. Your voice is kinda like that, and I can hear any song sang by you without knowing who is singing, and I will say immediately, "Ah, good ol' Ron :)" hahaha The only thing that I can say, technically, is that there are some Ah's there that could be more open and with better adduction. I guess it's easy to fix if you are thinking about it, haha, but in the heat of the moment one just tends to toss it out and have fun. ( I noticed because I am currently working on that same thing, haha ) Keep up the campfire songs :P
  16. Man, you could give this a try as an acapella version. With Audacity just record the backing humming, and then sing over that. It could be pretty cool Plus, it's so fun to do stuff like that haha
  17. I don't think it has anything to do with the length of the tongue or anything. It's probably just the tension of the tongue that many of us have needed to learn how to avoid. When doing scales and when singing, try to avoid that tension as much as you can. Put your tongue against your hard palate and opan and close the jaw while not moving the tongue at all. It will help to isolate the different parts of your mouth. Then to that movement you can add a humming on "ng" to further complicate the exercise. Whatever helps you play with isolation will be fruitful.
  18. I was listening again, and found that it could be more of a word's and accent thing that is affecting me. The words "More", "I'll", "Some", "meet( <-in this case, don't know if in other songs the same would happen )", which I tend to pronounce kind of an AH/OH mixture, probably with a very memorized speech-ish internal setup. I'll be careful with that :)
  19. Today I recorded the second part of the song, just to show you, guys. For Dante: Slightly flat syllables in some places and some darkening tendency for some others. I guess now that I am very aware of it it is just time and practice to get used to the new habits. Thank you very much Two versions because the two have different things haha https://app.box.com/s/urctjkp699ooz3zh8npn https://app.box.com/s/zyh653qt2m4hc3dkuxiu
  20. Thank you AmirMaor You mean music as in "instrumental track" or "band playing in the back"? haha Well it's hard to find instrumentals on the internet for every song, and I don't have a band currently, never been in one. I've been thinking about it lately.
  21. I'd really appreciate some input about this recording I think this is one of the songs I want to study the hell out of to be part of the "repertoire" ... eventually :C haha https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann/missing-you-mix267may2014
  22. Hey After a couple ( ) of tries I got kind of confused in my mind with so many versions and parts that where better or worse and aaaaargh! haha I chose these two to post here. I tried to apply all of your corrections, and although I am pitchy ( slightly flat ) in some vowels it is much less than before. To the person listening to the general line and not nitpicking it will sound just fine though, haha. This happened in the vowels of "more" or "I'll" which I found very hard to do with the AH sensation. Your corrections where great, and very helpful, I am so used to darken and close the vowels when I speak and sing. I will be very careful with that from now on. https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann/27-mayo-2014-silent-is-the-rain-246329583245-try https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann/27-mayo-2014-silent-is-the-rain-246329583244-try-haha Sorry for the second recording.. my father was shouting something on the background hahah
  23. Now that I had more time and listened to the clip you left me, I can make some comments about it Well, you have a very good ear, and are spot on on all of my vowel tendencies. I always tend to darken the vowels instead of going more for an AA-AH and let more twang and strength kick in. I feel like in my low-mid and low range I don't use the same pharingeal configuration. When I am in the C4-F# range I really feel a change and suddenly my voice grabs crazy ( for me haha ) power. I'll try to carry this .. well, twang, haha more into my low register. And think more of an AH, on every vowel instead of blurrying and darkening it. There surely is a point of deminishing returns when one wants to darken the voice. I'll record it again and see what happens. Thanks so much for your time, Cuno.. you are awesome :c \m/ PD: By the way, the line that says " Washing pain away", is the line I like the most of the whole song, because it's the only one that only goes up by a semi-note ( it's a G, but it's only half step from the previous note, that's what I mean) on the melody line. It's such a detail, haha. I love it, no idea why.
  24. I will record a full version of this song when I got the time. Although I feel like I would not make justice to it because I feel this Jorn Lande stuff NEEDS distortion haha.
  25. Thank you very much, CunoDante! It was very very helpful. I think you are totally correct on the technical side, and it's cool that you noticed some of the things I do dynamically. I really want to improve on this song, as I just love it. I love pain, despair and oblivion haha. I sent you an email, please have a look at it, heheh. Thanks again for your time.
