I watched all three. I like the darkness of the first one.

I like the tone of your voice on "Falling Up Blues."

But my favorite is "Wild Flower." I don't care to analyze why that is. Sure, it's a fuller arrangement than the other two but that's not it. I am always a fool for melody and I do like some blues and I have covered a few blues songs and I am writing one about one of my favorite activities, smoking a brisket (someone needs to write about that, right? )

Anyway, I liked your stuff and your peforming style. You remind me of some of my friends and our experiences performing at parties and clubs.

Keep doing what you are doing. Like Mark Baxter says, whatever "flavor" singer that you are, stick to that. Because your fans tell others and those others come along and like it and tell their friends. Always be true to your flavor.

David,

cool stuff man! I liked all of them, but would say Wildflower had the most impact on me. Very pretty arrangement and would be cool if you could post lyrics for your songs. I also checked out your youtube cover songs, and think you have a great song selection(I'm probably one of the few "folkies" on this forum  )along with a great lyric quality to your voice.

Have you covered any Steve Earl stuff before? I think it would be a great fit for your voice.

Thanks, analog! Steve Earl isn't on my radar at all, but I'll definitely look him up.

I'm not sure how to post my originals but here are three...

Falling Up Blues (David Lane)

[E] [A] [E] [F#m] [A] [F#m] [E] [E] (over and over)

We came down… off a two lane

In the dark-ness we will ride, Ouuut…

Away from the sparse pale lights

ooOOOooo…

Tradin the drone... of the road

For sage scented… desert night

-----

And far out… into nowhere

Drifting soft-ly lost in time, Nooow…

Slow and alone in the world

ooOOOooo…

Ghosts in a wide dark valley

We crept as the… sky unfurled

-----

Dirt road… on table Mesa

Nowhere to no-where Hold me tight, Deeear…

We stopped and... shut off the bike

ooOOOooo…

Summer night... came rushing in

So close it was... lover-like

------

<break>

-----

The stars shone… bright and whispered

In the qui-et We could hear, Themmm…

As we lay on the still warm sand

ooOOOooo…

Of a secret... brotherhood

The lost conscious… ness of man

-----

Then Kimmie... began to giggle

As we lay there And we let, Gooo….

You know I... began to cry

ooOOOooo…

Born of the same loosened heart

Sensing... the soft bye and bye

-----

The world’s weight… turned to nothing

All our wor-ries And our fears, Toooo….

Our bodies floated free

ooOOOooo…

The dark earth… gave up her hold

And we rose toward the… sparkling sea

-----

<break>

-----

We came down… off a two lane

In the dark-ness we will ride, Ouuut…

Away from the sparse pale lights

ooOOOooo…

Tradin the drone... of the road

For sage scented… desert night

Ain't (David Lane)

Em Am Em

Em

Ain’t seen no doctor who could heal me never was

Em Em7

Ain’t had no woman who could know me like she does

Am

Ain’t met no banker who could qualify as kind

Em

Ain’t heard no preacher who could sell me peace of mind

<chorus>

B7 Am Em

Head long my days fall toward the night, but I can see a morning light, a morning light…

B7 Am

So wash away your pain and woe, they ain’t no problems where we gonna go

Em B7

Gonna go… we gonna go

<break>

Em

Ain’t worked no magic that could make you stop and stare

Em Em7

Ain’t played no music that could feed you like a prayer

Am

Ain’t made no habit of the games of chance and luck

Em

Ain’t wanted much more than this guitar and my truck

<chorus>

<break>

Em

Ain’t found no sense in staying angry ‘bout this life

Em Em7

Ain’t cried much either ‘bout my sorrows or my strife

Am

Ain’t been no father like my father was to me

Em

Ain’t chose to fear God since he taught me to be free

<chorus>

I Can Remember - David Lane

<intro> [D] [F#m] [G] [A] [D] [F#m] [G] [A]

Verses:

[D] I can yet re[Em]member

Morning [G] mist cradled [D] hills

It’s the [bm] chill of No[G]vember

That [Em] takes me there [G] still

Back [D] into our [Em] town

The [G] woods and the [D] lane

I’m [bm] trapped going [G] round

To those [Em] mornings [G] again

The [D] floor was so [Em] cold

My breath [G] hung in the [D] air

My [bm] joints all felt [G] old

As I [Em] dressed and [G] prepared

To [D] lay in chord [Em] wood

That we’d [G] sawn and we’d [D] split

We’d [bm] laugh when we [G] could

My [Em] old man had [G] grit

<break> [D] [Em] [G] [D] [bm] [G] [Em] [G]

Chorus:

Those [D] yesterdays have grown

Off and [F#m] on for forty years

Like a [G] strange touch stone

As my [A] finish line draws near

I go [D] back there and I pray

Back in [F#m] place and back in time

Though [G] I know I’d throw away

Any [A] hint of the divine

Verses:

We’d [D] laugh about the [Em] snow

Or our [G] piece of junk [D] truck

Whose [bm] springs were so [G] low

Thing’s [Em] probably [G] stuck

Smoke, [D] chain-oil and [Em] beer

Tired [G] back and sore [D] knees

It’s [bm] that place I [G] fear

That [Em] won’t be a[G]ppeased

I [D] wasn’t from [Em] there

So I [G] couldn’t fit [D] in

And [bm] soon I would [G] share

Some [Em] plans to be[G]gin

I [D] heard the road [Em] call

Used my [G] thumb and my [D] shoes

Walked a[bm]way from the [G] drawl

And the [Em] misty hill [G] blues

<break> [D] [Em] [G] [D] [bm] [G] [Em] [G]

Chorus:

Those [D] yesterdays have grown

Off and [F#m] on for forty years

Like a [G] strange touch stone

As my [A] finish line draws near

I go [D] back there and I pray

Back in [F#m] place and back in time

Though [G] I know I’d throw away

Any [A] hint of the divine

Verses:

And [D] largely I have [Em] won

[G] Mortgage and a [D] car

[Em] Sprinklers and a [G] lawn

Can’t [Em] say that I’ve been [G] scarred

But there [D] is no real es[Em]cape

That place is [G] never far a[D]way

I have [bm] traded that land[G]scape

For a [Em] city and its [G] fray

Somehow the [D] boy is never [Em] done

And some [G] places dig in [D] deep

I [bm] know that I’m my [G] captain

But those [Em] times have quite the [G] reach

And [D] I can yet re[Em]member

Morning [G] mist cradled [D] hills

It’s the [bm] chill of No[G]vember

That [Em] takes me there [G] still

<outro> [D] [F#m] [G] [A] [D] [F#m] [G] [A]

These are great lyrics! Seriously. Falling Up/I Can Remember have a strong sense of place and nature and melancholia...what else do you need? :P Of course, you live in one of the most beautiful places on earth, so I imagine nature would infect anyone with a pulse.

Do you plan on recording these in (home)studio setting? Really solid man.

Thanks! This Sept I hope to team up with a professional violinist and record a couple. Here's another...

Grow - David Lane

Ugly are the men, who are the hateful tools of our government

Aye and aye and aye

Babylon lives and my brothers come to swallow any lie

The marijuana

Now is the time man, now we can decide that the herb is jah

Free and blessed be

I cannot avoid the truth, 70 years of war against a stupid plant...

Ganja, ganja, hey

<Chorus>

Caffeine, nicotine, and the alcohol

Each offer altered states of mind

And dangers greater than the kind

Enjoyed by folks who've not been... blind.

We are connected, the music of love weaves its silky thread

Aye and aye and aye

We are made whole, and those in fear and pain can be set free

The marijuana

We owe our kids, man, our wrath and lies have sown mistrust

Free and blessed be

And they will come around, to a healthy view of this stupid plant

Ganja, Ganja, hey

<Chorus>

Caffeine, nicotine, and the alcohol

Each offer altered states of mind

And dangers greater than the kind

Enjoyed by folks who've not been... blind.
