Hi!

I have seen that many people have sung this Maiden classic in this forum so i was thinking: Why not start a thread with just this metal classic. I have sung it myself many times and mostly butchered it. Here is my latest effort and critique good as bad is always welcome. Thanx in advance.

Thanx for listening, Igor and Gneetap. I am not totally satisfied myself with this effort even though i feel it is my best so far (I think i have posted it here 3 times before). By the way, feel free to post your own effort here.

I have a question: why is this the maiden song that everyone chooses to sing? Is it everyone's favorite, or is it one of their easier songs, one of their harder songs or what?

And why did a number of newbies coming into this forum all cover the Buckley version of "Hallelujah"?

Because it is popular and iconic. It's not the easiest song. And it has soaring heroic notes in the chorus and the ending.

Not a lot of people cover "Fear of the Dark" because it starts out in what they think is the "easy" part of the voice. So, do you have an IM cover you would like to share? Even a capella.

Try "Fear of the Dark." It is a great song and no more difficult or easy than "Run to the Hills." (by the way, Bruce is in his fifties, here, and has been flying the leased 757 they re-named as Ed Force One, being also a licensed commercial airline pilot and now, these days, part owner of an airline company that does after-market retro-fits and improvements.)

I wonder why people don't cover "Black Dog" as much as say, "Don't Stop Believing" or even this song. You have to sustain notes in the low head tones a lot longer in DSB + RTTH so I feel like those songs are tricky enough to ward more people off to cover that than Black Dog...

Edit; AWESOME job on the chorus especially, Olem!

I have seen Maiden live 4 times in the 90's and the 20's and everytime there were 3 songs that stood out where the audience went nuts - those songs were "Run To The Hills" "Fear Of The Dark" and "The Trooper". I, personally, have many favourites - i have tried to sing and here posted"Powerslave" Rime Of The Ancient Mariner" "Deja Vu" "Run To The Hills" "Aces High" and "The Trooper i beleive. This time i hadn't sing "Run To Hills" for a year and was curious to see whether or not i had made any improvement.

Wabba tread - thanx for listening.

I'm speechless guitarGeorge! Really nice vocals! You guys are doing such a nice job with this song, and it seems so much fun to sing, that I'm considering to try it too. Especially because I really doubt I can get those growling lows in a convincing way. Keep on Rocking!

Gneetap - thanks for listening and commenting.

I am am pretty happy with my lower and mid-range singing in this, especially grit and expression. I am also fairly happy with harmony vocals in choruses. I am much weaker on the long high notes in which Bruce does loads of vibrato, in the chorus in particular - more work needed.

I have done a lot of Iron Maiden covers, I am much better at the DiAnno and Bayley numbers, than Dickinson.

This reminds me of the Dio and Queensryche tribute threads. Where sounding like the original is not as important as singing the song convincingly, as everyone has done in this thread, so far.
