  1. Here's a better mixed version.... http://soundcloud.com/mike-bromelow/snax-back-in-black-mix-2
  2. Wow, thanks for the kind words! That's an interesting comment about my tongue placement and you might just be right. I'll definitely be more aware the nest time I'm singing and see if I'm muffling myself inadvertently.
  3. Not sure what you mean by your post Jugulator, can you please explain? Perhaps you are talking about the actual way I EQ my vocals on this track? I do notice that when I use this particular "rasp effect" it's not as clear and biting as some of the other ways I achieve a raspy tone. Is that what you mean?
  4. I really wish I knew how to explain or describe what I'm doing to get this particular sound. It isn't the healthiest way to sing for sure and it's not something I'd want to subject my voice to too often. I know i keep mentioning my tonsillectomy in some of my posts but it really did give me a whole new set of vocal configurations to experiment with. I just wish I would have had it done years ago when i was actually gigging in a bar band. Lord only knows how my voice might be today if I did! The key to singing anything in this range is to first develop a strong clear head voice or "mix" if you prefer that terminology. From then it's just a matter of experimenting and trying different things until you are able to add the rasp over top of that clear voice like an effect that you are able to turn on and off at will.
  5. I just got over a cold and back into recording. I posted this one before but I have been working on a different type of rasp and thought that it might work for AC/DC so I tried it again. No idea how to explain what I'm doing differently from my previous Brian Johnson vocal configuration but it does feel different in my throat. Anyway, hope you dig it.... It damn near killed me! lol http://soundcloud.com/mike-bromelow/snax-back-in-black
  6. The tonsils were chocking me basically by the time I had to have them removed. My head voice was very muted due to the lack of resonant space and even right after the surgery I could speak more clearly which was surprising. I've never enjoyed singing as much as I do now! I'll be posting another song soon. It's Born On The Bayou by CCR.
  7. Hey everyone. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. The other musician Paul Hill and I no longer communicate. He knew that I have a full time business and that the music was just for fun on the side but he kept pressuring me to finish the songs quickly. I told him again and again that I wasn't interested in "keeping the momentum going" or internet radio airplay etc. I was up front with Paul from the beginning when he contacted me through the forums here. By the way, he only joined up to find a singer for his project, not to contribute anything. I was always respectful in how I communicated with him but here is the last email message he sent me... "Reverb Nation is down Myspace is down. Your shit is down. Take the Youtube video down that you done and that will be everything. We have ended it all right here. If anyone ask me I will tell them you could not complete the projects. (*auto edit*) off" How's that for thanks for writing the lyrics, vocal melodies and singing my ass off?
  8. Thanks so much! I just changed the link you guys heard to a revised version of the song. I fixed a few timing issues and did some other tweaking to the vocal effects and levels here and there. It sounds even better now! :)
  9. Hey thanks Ron! It's funny because I use that same method of attaining the distortion that you mentioned and I also got it from Vendera. The voice I've been using on the Bitter truth tracks is my own natural tone without me trying to emulate another vocalist. My influences are there loud and proud but the style is very natural for me.
  10. Another new song from my group Bitter Truth! This one's called Reap What You Sow... https://files.me.com/muskysnax/r1pzua.mp3 All music by Paul Hill. All vocals and lyrics by me. EDIT...I just changed the link to a better mix of the track.
  11. Here's a brand new song from my group Bitter Truth. It's about the 9/11 attacks and is called Calm Before The Storm. Hope you dig it! https://files.me.com/muskysnax/wv46rh.mp3
  12. I liked what you did but I don't really hear a Plant tone in your voice. I don't have it either nor no most of those who cover Zeppelin's music. I've heard only one singer ever who actually sounds so much like Robert Plant that it's ridiculous! You can hear him on youtube in the group "Virtual Zeppelin". Check him out and you'll hear what I mean. By all means keep up the singing though and don't worry if I personally don't think you sound like Robert Plant as much as others have told you. You still did great!
  13. Thanks Ron. Just to clarify though, I had a complete tonsillectomy and also had my adenoids removed at the same time. A few months later I had a deviated septum corrected surgically. I'm still healing from the tonsillectomy but my voice has improved steadily since.
  14. Here's Living After midnight as sang by me. The music was performed by Paul Hill. Hope ya dig it! https://files.me.com/muskysnax/duhjn4.mp3
  15. Thanks so much! As for my vocal training, the only training I've had has been through the forums here.
  16. Thanks for the feedback Stan. I always strive to give emotive performances and this song isn't quite done yet so I'll be sure to really focus as I finish it up.
  17. Thanks Ron. Paul is an amazing musician and has sent me 9 original songs to add my vocals to. This song though, I think is pretty special.
  18. That was biggest hurdle when learning how to sing for recording vs live performing. I used to still try to bust a gut powering my voice which doesn't work in the recording environment very well. Bear in mind though that whenever you've heard bare vocal tracks from me I still had lots of compression on them to bring the quiet parts up and maintain more consistent volume levels. This can give a false sense that my loud parts aren't that much louder than the soft parts when in actuality there is quite a lot of dynamic range there. The trick is in knowing how much to use and in setting your threshold and other parameters in order to get the most out a given performance.
  19. Paul sent me the mixed music and all I had to do was add my vocals at my end. I also mastered it. The high harmonies damn near killed me! lol
  20. I'm just listening as I type this response...HOLY SHIT that is awesome!!! Very current. This could easily be on the radio today and be a smash hit!
  21. This is one the hardest songs to sing and sound like the original. Kudos to you for going for it Ron! In all honesty I don't think I could have done it any better. Keep rocking buddy! I have sang this a looooong time ago but for some reason it sounds like Rob Halford (on a BAD day) doing it! lol
  22. Here's my new song "Brief History Of Time" co written with the ultra talented musician Paul Hill from Oakland Missouri. He did all instruments and I did all vocals & lyrics. Let us know what you think! https://files.me.com/muskysnax/p9o8ao.mp3
