  1. The magic was already there Ron, I just polished it a little. :)
  2. I appreciate the kind words! A number of years ago you'd better believe I would have jumped at the idea.
  3. I think it's from the years that I did spend singing in bands and running a karaoke company. I've always had a strong voice but was limited in tone and range due to the tonsils although I didn't know it at the time.
  4. I have to say that I'm enjoying this particular track as it develops. Some songs just plain feel good to sing and for me this is one of those. Riding On The Wind just about killed me though! lol Thanks for the kind words as always Ron.
  5. Here's what I've recorded so far of Beyond The Realms Of Death. You can still hear some of the original Halford vocal in the background since I'm using vocal removal software on the real song... https://files.me.com/muskysnax/txvrkh.mp3 I'm going to redo the heavy sections since I was just mucking about when I did those but I hope I sound somewhat ok on the ballad sections.
  6. I'm not familiar with the original song or group but you sounded very current and quite impressive to me. I can definitely picture hearing this on the radio with your vocals. The style isn't my thing as I'm a little old school when it comes to singing but you have the talent for sure! Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your voice with us.
  7. Here's Ron's latest version of the song recorded with a nice new mic. Way to go Ron, I can hear you making improvements already! You really sang your ass off this time. https://files.me.com/muskysnax/arjknv.mp3 (Hope you like my mixing.)
  8. I just love hearing another singer going balls out !!!
  9. Just gave you a reputation point for inspiring me with your performance. You held nothing back and I really like that!
  10. That's the real fun of studio recording in a way...you can experiment and really get into the song knowing that it doesn't matter if you mess up. You can keep all the little magical moments and "stitch" them together into an incredible audio "quilt!"
  11. I decided to sing the whole damn song over again and just give it everything I've got this time! I added a few screams that aren't in the original particularly the opening scream before the first verse. Hope this version sounds better than that first one. Please let me know! https://files.me.com/muskysnax/22o3l3.mp3 By the way, I was inspired by Akaward today to really go for it. His recording of Halford's The Mower kicked ass! EDIT: I just remixed this new version so the vocals blend better. Check it out if you already heard the one I posted before.
  12. Hey thanks so much for the suggestion! This particular distortion is actually (for me anyway) very close to the Brian Johnson AC/DC tone. With Brian Johnson's grit I found that I can do it up high more easily than my lower head notes which you'd think would be the opposite. I'm pretty content with my vocal progress since the tonsillectomy but I always strive to be able to do more. The suggestions and comments will definitely help me on that quest. Regarding that Halford clip, I enhanced the audio using logic Pro 9 and now you can really hear Halford's piercing tone! That one scream he does just melts your face right off! lol
  13. Naw, you can do it! You just have to go beyond your comfort zone.
  14. Painkiller is on my list of songs I want to record for sure. He uses a pretty unique vocal rattle for that one too but I think I can manage it. For some reason Riding On The Wind is so tough to do well. Makes me want to work harder though! ;)
  15. I can sing high but getting that unique raunch he used on this song is what I'm finding damn near impossible! He has such a range of tones and uses every one of them to maximum effect. As I've always said, I'm but a pale comparison to the real Metal God!!!
  16. Holy crap, I never even knew that clip existed! THANK YOU for mentioning it. I'm watching it on youtube as I type this. To bad the audio quality wasn't the greatest but holy hell does Halford ever tear it up!!! This was during his solo years and his grunge look which I hated. lol
  17. The whole vocals is a imperfection! lol The sound that Halford has on the original is pretty unique and for me unfortunately, it is very elusive. Man the guy sure earned his nickname as the Metal God!
  18. I really did a crap-assed version of this but decided to post it so that you can see that I also struggle from time to time! lol Sorry to ruin a perfectly good song! Ha,ha,ha! Seriously though, this song is a bitch to sing and it's got to be one of the worst things I've posted recently... https://files.me.com/muskysnax/6ftnpz.mp3 Least I'm honest! :P
  19. Hey there, I checked out the tunes I knew best (Breaking The Law and Black Dog and here's my thoughts... Firstly I can hear that you have had training and you have good control. Now it's time to unleash the BEAST inside! lol Singing rock is like walking a very fine line between control and wild abandon. I often cross the line a little too much and need to reign myself in. You should do the opposite and really go for it vocally. I know you can do it! Once you learn just how far you can push yourself it will just be a matter of refining and controlling that raw power. GO FOR IT!!!
  20. It just takes understanding how your own voice functions and then building the muscle memory and stamina to sing high consistently. I'm sure anyone on these forums can sing this song too if they wanted to.
  21. Yeah, she is awesome indeed! Very "authentic" rock sound and she's super humble to boot. I'm trying to get back in touch with her and if I do I'll be sure to tell her all about the forums and the nice responses she received here.
  22. I think you sounded pretty good on all of them but especially doing Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains. Thanks for sharing and look forward to hearing more. If you sing any Judas Priest PLEASE post it. I'm a HUGE fan!
  23. AWESOME!!! I'll tinker with this one and see if I can warm up the sound a little for you.
