  1. As usual, constructive criticism is welcome. I was very happy with the way this turned out . I think I'm slowly developing my own style. George
  2. Thanks for your feedback Ron and Olem. It is much appreciated.
  3. Thanks Tommy and Ron Your positive feedback means a lot to me.
  4. Your main problem is tuning, which off quite a bit, sometimes in the same places repeatedly. You should listen to the original very closely and re-listen to your own performance. If you play guitar or keyboards it may help to pick out the vocal melody as a single note phrase to help you focus on it.
  5. Thanks Tommy I agree than Man On The Run was a bit country - sorry!, it also has great guitar playing (not me). I am exploring a variety styles of singing currently, softer rock like this, and heavy stuff like that Iron Maiden cover I did.

  8. Thanks Ron. I enjoyed doing this a lot, so as you suggest I may do some more. Tony tells me has about 40 Iron Maiden covers in various stages of completion all needing vocals. I not sure how much stamina I've got. I think I'll try at least one Dickinson era song though, perhaps "Run To The Hills" if he's done that one..!
  9. As usual, constructive criticism is welcome. http://soundcloud.com/george-williams-8/prowler Prowler was the first song from Iron Maiden's first album, "Iron Maiden". It was released in 1980, when I was 15 years old. The singer was Paul Di'Anno. He didn't last very long with Maiden. They re-recorded it with Bruce Dickinson on vocals 1988, and Metallica did a (poor) cover at some point. Anyway, I don't sound like Di'Anno or Dickinson, I just sound like me - which is something I have come to accept All the instruments on this were played (or programmed in the case of drums) by my friend Tony Rhodes, who lays down an amazing guitar solo around 1'58. George
  10. Your singing is too timid. If you are playing guitar at the same then I suggest you don't and just work on the singing.
  11. Fantastic. If you fancy turning your hand to original music collaborating with others online then you could join us over at www.musicianscollaboration.com.
  12. Also, you aren't singing out, it sounds a bit a bit timid. You need to overcome that to make progress.
  13. 1970's style rock. "The Bone King". http://soundcloud.com/george-williams-8/the-bone-king As always, constructive criticism is welcome. I think there is a lot of guitar in the outtro, but we had two guitarists on the roster and they got carried away. The guy who mixed it put a lot of FX on my voice, maybe chorus or similar. I didn't like it initially, but I have warmed to it. It seems to fit with the song and the genre. George
  14. I have updated the mix at the link in the original post, repeated here: All the instrumentation is complete in this: piano, brass, woodwind, guitars and so on.... It's still not the final mix, but we think it's sounding real swell  This is the first time I have sung with an whole orchestra, even even though its actually 2 guys with a lot of talent, keyboards and a million sound clips. Do you think it's out of order to post songs in a style from the 1930's on a site called 'The Modern Vocalist' :o
  15. Both songs were great. Singing was great also. Instrumentation maybe needs some more variety (more people maybe) for it to be as good as it could be. You maybe need to find a keyboard player or real drummer to inject some variety. Also the muscles on your arms in your soundclick avatar put me to shame, I am a wimp in comparison.
  16. Tonight we have finished this track. I am really happy with the results. I have updated it in the link in the original post, repeated here: http://soundcloud.com/george-williams-8/grand-southern-view George I answer to the earlier questions about guitar amps, the guitarist (Mick Lovering) used Guitar rig 4 on this: Trem Guitar : 800 Clean + Tremelo Clean Guitar : 800 Clean Main Backing : Comp Plexi Driven Lead Guitar : God's Love
  17. Thanks. We are adding woodwing, brass and violins, currently. I'll post an updated version when we've done. George
  18. If you have listened to my other stuff previously - this is very different! Quite funny lyrics also. It's a style I've never recorded before. It's harder than rock for me - it's so clean there's no escape from little errors in timing and articulation. This is a work-in-progress mix, there some some instruments to add, and maybe some vocal re-tracking, but it's getting there. I think maybe my vibrato could be better. As always, constructive criticism is welcome! George
  19. Nick I listened to a fair buit of Indian chanting to prepare this track. Look for carnatic chanting on youtube for some very cool stuff. I didnt improvise it though, I tried but I found that too hard. My brain is too rock-and-roll! I had to work on "composing" each little bit as I went, and then reworking things on listening back. Quite a bit of work. I won't be in a hurry to do it again. Georgw
  20. Nick I am sure it is emulation, not a real amp. I'll ask for the details. I didnt do the guitar on this. I used to do a lot more guitar on tracks, but now most of my time is spent singing. George
  21. Ron I think I sound more like Greg Lake than anyone else. It's an accident of history and genetics, I didnt notice until Keith previously pointed out the similarity on a previous song I posted here. I think my friends and I are influenced by all those bands you listed. George
