  1. You could try just spending a couple of bucks on an quarter-inch-to-eighth-inch adapter that goes over a quarter inch plug that a lot of Professional mics have if your mic has that configuration. Worked Great for me! Or if you have an XLR Mic you could try reading this and get yourself a different kind of adapter. My PC used to have this horrible feedback sound to it when I recorded and when I spent 100 bucks on another sound card, that took care of the problem, and the bonus was, I got this cool black box that Professional mics can plug into as well as headphones and there are volume controls for both, and that's what I've been using and I'm pretty happy with it! http://www.ehow.com/facts_7591286_microphone-computer-adapters.html
  2. One of my Favorites! Very nice job, guys! I must admit that by far, I enjoyed the version where Ron sang lead and MDEW did the harmony! It even seemed like a better mix to me and the harmony was really good! Ron I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the soft relaxing tone of your voice, I think you picked the perfect song for you! Now who did the guitar parts? I really enjoyed that too! All I know is after hearing this, I'd love to sing The Boxer with you guys, another one of my Favorites.:cool:
  3. Thanks Ron! Don't worry, I take it as a BIG COMPLIMENT!!!:D:D Much obliged, bud!:cool:
  4. This may sound strange, but try singing this no more than a half an hour after you wake up in the morning. You might be surprised how much lower you can sing and how much more comfortable the low notes will feel. At least, that's the way it is with my voice. I call it my morning bass voice. Normally I can only sing as low as a D2 but in the morning, many times I can hit that B1 quite well. Ed
  5. Thanks, bud! : ) That's GREAT news!!!!!! I heard Andy's bass player on another one of Andy's projects where Andy had originally done the bass line and this Bass player that he recently met, improved the bass line immensely! I was hoping that the same thing would happen with Broken Man, and I'm thrilled to find out that it has and that you're happy with what's been done!!! I can't wait to hear the finished Product!!!:D:D ROCK ON, Felipe!!!:cool::cool: Ed
  6. Hi Felipe! Wow, I thought I set this up to be notified by email but I guess I failed miserably cause I never got an email and I just happened to find this by accident.Heehee Well that's Great, I can't wait to hear EDGE OF THORNS when you get everything sorted out! And I really appreciate your honest opinion about Broken Man and the fact that you haven't lost interest in it. Yes, I agree with you, Andy has some really cool ideas for compositions but even he admits to not being much of a musician. If he was just as good a musician as he was a composer, we'd probably be finished with it already. I'll try to keep my eyes out for good bass players that could help and maybe even a hard rock guitarist that could give us that Marilyn Manson (SWEET DREAMS) dirty sound that we're looking for. Hopefully you still have my email or feel free to message me here if you have any new thoughts or breakthroughs on the matter. thanks for all your work on this project! Have a good one, Bud!:cool: Ed
  7. Alas, it looks like they removed my version of this song from this site. If you're still interested in hearing it, here's a fresh link for you. BTW...Wish I could give proper credit to this extremely talented composer, I think he went by the name ILLE or something like that, I think that's close anyway.:| Thanks for listening.:cool: https://copy.com/OSrhTGSuoacP Hope it's alright if I post the lyric here. I could post a link to another site that has the lyric but I doubt if that's allowed so here's lyric... Title: Crimson Moon © All Rights Reserved, 2012 Edward B. Millican III Crimson Moon 1st Verse: You don’t want to go out the night when the Crimson Moon howls. You may scoff at the wolfs’ bite, and heed not the cry of the owl. Chorus: But they hear your heart beating with fright They smell your fear, keep away from the children of the night. 2nd Verse: SPOKEN: If you see them, run! But it’ll do you little good. You must not have understood. Pre-Chorus: Your only chance to avoid the Reapers’ dance, heed my advice; when the time comes, lock your doors and hide! Chorus: For they taste the air; your sent in the pale moon light. They will take you unaware! Stay away from the children of the night. Bridge: I see the world through carnivore eyes. Tearin’ at my flesh when the Blood Moon’s high. No idea where I’ll wake up, when comes the morning light! Chorus: We hear your heart beating with fright We shall spread the terror! Beware, we are the children of the night. Outro: SPOKEN: Heed my warning. The wolf suffers no fools. Take it from one who knows. On the night of the Crimson Moon, no matter what you do, stay in doors. Ed
  8. Sorry about the late reply, guys. RockNSoulLover, thanks for the advice and the encouraging words, I really appreciate it! Those were some interesting points you made about tonal quality and how different singers were abke to turne a negative into a positive. I actually have incorporated the nasal part of my voice into my style to some extent and fortunately, for some songs, it's been pretty well received since Bed Of Roses by Bon Jovi has been one of my most requested songs, back in the Karaoke Days. However, to be perfectly honest, it was always down 2 half steps.Heehee Thanks, Singingnewbie! : ) Glad to hear that you also like the nasal part of my voice when I sing high. Nit picking is exactly what I'm looking for! In regards to the out of rhythm comment you made, I say GREAT Call! You spotted what I believe is my weakest skill as a vocalist; In one word, timing. :| I'm certainly not going to blame this on myself! So I blame it on Karaoke!Heehee If you have really good CDG's where the letters of every word are changing color at the perfect time, you can become lazy and not practice hearing your ques or not work on developing a really good sense of rhythm. To this day, I'm still trying to improve my timing. Anyway, thank you so much for your comments, guys, I greatly appreciate it! :0 ) Ed
  9. Urgh! The holidays have kept me quite busy, sorry again about the delay, guys. Ron, that's an interesting point you brought up about those particular singers; I guess I'm so out of the loop these days that I had to google the names to know who the hell you were talking about. Fortunately, I have heard of the groups SlipKnot, Armored Saint and of course, Anthrax which I've actually listened to before and liked quite a bit; just wasn't up on who all the front men were. ; ) MDEW, thanks a lot man!! I was very happy to hear that my performance took you back. .
  10. Thanks RockNSoulLover, I really appreciate the compliments and the Critique! : ) All I can say to the critique is guilty as charged .Heehee I believe that over the years, I have developed some Nasal Polyps and I think that's where the nasal sound is coming from. I really don't know what to do about this other than getting surgery and I'm the kind of guy that cringes at going to the doctor :| and then worries even more about the bill. However, I think you're the first person that ever put any kind of a positive spin on it, in regards to it helping with the delivery of the high parts. Thanks, I'll take whatever I can get. ;)
  11. Many thanks Ron for the nice compliments on the mixing and my pitch! Although after hearing it quite a few times, I think I did notice a few sharps and a few flats. But I don't think it was lacking in passion. I only say that cuz I consider myself to be much more of a passionate singer rather than a technical singer, although I am constantly trying to better all my skills as a singer. When you mentioned the word Placement, were you referring to timing or something else? Yeah, I think I actually tried to end on DUM but I don't think I was close enough to the Mic when I sang that part so you can't really hear it that well and in some parts, I can't hear it at all and it does sound like D-aw to me. Plus my style has always been to eliminate some of those original La's.;)
  12. Sorry about the delayed response guys. Thanks a lot, Ron! I really appreciate the compliment! Perhaps a bit too much reverb. I gotta agree with you on this, maybe a bit too much chorus too. I love that For Annie song too! I was actually born in 1970 but my folks liked John Denver and that's how I ended up liking Country Roads. : ) A year or 2 ago, I watched a documentary on John Denver with my folks and my father told me that Annie's Song was one of my Mother's favorite so I learned it for her and as I was learning it, I was extremely impressed with the lyric, and I actually grew very found of the song. I'd love to do a cover of this song but I don't have any Karaoke music for it. For some songs, like OLD MAN and a folk song called RAMBLIN' BOY, I was able to use the original music and it still sounded pretty good because I was mixing my loud booming voice over much softer voices. Unfortunately my PC caught a virus and lost those along with some really good Karaoke recordings. : ( While watching this doc, I also heard the high part to THE EAGLE AND THE HAWK. I thought it was FANTASTIC!!! Although, unfortunately, I believe that one is wayyyy too high for me to sing. Derek, I really appreciate the encouraging words and I'm so happy you liked my version of Country Roads! Thanks a lot, man!:D
  13. I believe I started singing in Karaoke Bars in late 2002, but I didn't start recording on my PC until 2006. Thanks for listening. :0 ) COUNTRY ROADS https://copy.com/KNTW6CveUIav
  14. I gotcha Ron! I thought that might have been the case especially since you've read far more on the subject than I have, but I didn't see any tongue and cheek smilies after your comment so I felt the need to clarify, just to make sure my statement was not misunderstood. Anyway, yes it was Felipe's tone and vocal range that made me think he'd sound good singing some Iron Maiden songs.
  15. @ronws, I didn't know he sang for Savatage either! All I meant by my comment Ron, is that although Felipe sounds a little bit like the front man for Savatage during the chorus, when he hits that one very impressive D5 when he sings the word LET from the line LET IT HOLD ME TIGHT near the end of the song, it's almost like his voice takes on a different tone and to me, that's when he sounded like Bruce Dickenson. @Felipe, You're welcome, man! Wonderful to hear that an Iron Maiden cover is in the works. BTW...My favorite Savatage song is EDGE OF THORNS, have you ever tried that one? Oh, and I hope you're still working on BROKEN MAN cuz it would be an honor to have you sing my lyric.;) Ed
  16. Thank you so much Ron, for a FANTASTIC description which also sounds like great advice. I'm happy to say that most of the time, that's exactly how I work on originals. When I listen to someone's instrumental, I basically just try to keep my mind open and wait for the music to sing me a story in my mind. Sometimes I hear that story being sung during the first time I play the song and other times I have to play the song several times, but 9 times out of 10, a melody and lyric will come to me. I try to give each instrumental exactly what I feel it needs and sometimes that even means finding a different singer. But I must admit that for ALL HALLOWS EVE, I did do one part that I thought fit with the song quite well, but the biggest reason I recorded that part was to showcase what I like to call, my Morning Bass Voice. It's the part right before the bridge where I sing 2 Ahhhs & then 2 Ohhhs. The third note dips into a B1, and I did this because the highest note in the song, is a B4, and I knew if I added a B1 in just the right spot, it would make this song special, at least, special to me cuz it's the only original I've ever done all the vox to that spans 3 Octaves. I call it my Morning Bass voice cuz unfortunately I can't sustain that low range throughout the entire day. Eventually, as the day goes by, I can just barely scrape a D2:/ But that's the beauty of recording at home, you can record as much as you want, even if it's just one very high or low line, and best of all, you can record whenever you want!:cool: Anyway, I love listening to Originals! When I get some time, I'll have to check some of yours out! Ed
  17. Well thank you very much, Ron! : ) I'm actually glad you ended up listening to Illusion first cuz when you like something that isn't the kind of music you normally like to listen to, that is indeed a high compliment! I'm so happy that you liked ALL HALLOWS EVE! And I really appreciate the great compliment on the tone of my voice!! Just out of curiosity, was it the Low or High or really low part that you liked the most? Just trying to make sure of exactly what you mean when you say DO THAT STUFF SOME MORE. Anyway, thanks again....I greatly appreciate the encouraging words!!! :):)
  18. My lyrics, my vox, my melody Fred's music and he's the one that mixed it; he makes me jealous! Should have posted this on Halloween. Doh! ALL HALLOWS EVE http://www.reverbnation.com/852953 BTW, just for the hell of it, ILLUSION is also my melody and my lyrics but Obviously, I'm not the singer in that one. Thanks for listening. : ) Ed
  19. Woah! You've been holding out on me, Felipe! I had NO Idea you could sing that friggin high!!! Wow, your voice shines when the song gets higher! There was even one part when you sang the word LET from the line LET IT HOLD ME TIGHT near the end of the song, and I believe that was a very strong D5 and I gotta say at that point, you actually sounded a bit like Bruce Dickenson, FANTASTIC! I'll have to see if you've done any Iron Maiden covers. : ) Great Job, my friend!!!:D
  20. Bernie, you did one of my all time favorite Journey songs and I believe you really did it Justice! ) I did not think it was a flawless performance because I thought it sounded like you were a bit sharp when you sang WE SAILED ON TOGETHER, WE DRIFTED APART. But then it seemed like you nailed the rest of it in regards to pitch. I also thought there might have been one small spot where you fell behind the beat for just a second, but then again, Soundcloud files do not play well on my PC so I could be mistaken. I'm guessing that the lack of passion that your friend was hearing, was actually in the fault of the Mix. Seems like the music was drowning you out, especially during the 2nd part of the song. I honestly think that if your vox had been louder, the women that was close to you wouldn't have felt the same way. I thought the tone of your voice and your range fit this song very well and I for one, am a bit Jealous.Heehee Very Nice Job, Bernie. )
  21. I'm BACK! Thanks for the comment, Adon. Does that mean you didn't like it? I guess that makes me either a cheater or too honest! Seriously, unlike the collab with Andy, this one was a complete LEAP OF FAITH. I could have rerecorded that one part but by that time, I had put a great deal of work into it and to be perfectly honest, I was getting sick of working on it!LOL Especially when I had no contact with the composer at that time and didn't even know if he'd like it and it turned out that he didn't really care for it. Fortunately I liked it and others have too, so it was not a complete waste of time. Plus, I try to hold on to the belief that it can never be a waste of time if I'm spending it doing something I LOVE!:0 ) Ed
  22. OK, then I definitely agree with you. The vocals were shaky and the pitch wasn't even that good originally. I think I Vvocaled it and that made it sound even shakier. BTW...I'm going to be away from my PC for a couple of weeks so if I don't answer back to anyone's comments, that's the reason why. Thanks again for your input! Ed
