  1.   Yes, Sir Mc Cartney is an awesome singer and at 70+ he still sings this song decently.  His songs are waaaaay more difficult than they sound.     Strangely when I try to do Steve Perry who uses a similar technique I really really struggle, since they are maybe one or two notes higher on an average from what Paul Mc Cartney's songs lie.  In mathematical terms in terms of frequencies, an average increase of one semitone is a 4% improvement.  Although in reality the 4% is much larger when you are singing in extreme register..
  2.   Thanks Elvis for your kind words.     I would like to think all of our voices are capable of producing very different tones and the human voice is an incredibly versatile instrument.  But you are right there is a big difference in technique between light mass and heavy mass.  To me light mass upto G4 or B4 comes relatively easier.  I don't have the muscularity to belt beyond A4 especially in a clean tone without distortion(my personal preference).     My experience is that light mass is actually more difficult to master and has a very little margin for error. But it is way less fatiguing than singing with a heavier tone.  I might actually sing this more "belty" style in a live environment since it is very difficult to do this well without being able to hear yourself very well. Also, I would think it causes way less damage in the long run as several experts in this forum tell.     I actually want to learn belting like Bruce Dickenson or Freddie Mercury and probably even they use some kind of a mix voice with a powerful support.  To me it would give me more arrows in the quiver and I view it very important in my evolution as a singer.  And I kinda suck at that at least now    In summary, I think you can work on light mass co-ordination.  I always thought this was impossible for me to sing this way.  If you train for it, I think it should be possible.
  3. Hi Folks..    Did only one part of the song.  Single take, so there are a couple of rough spots..    https://app.box.com/s/6dxajlz22kolfs48nmy8ejtwb2sc6w39   Range is not an issue for me in this song.. Please comment on my tone.. Last time(several months), I had some issues with nasality.  I think I have corrected those    Also to what extent will the same thing in a professional studio sound better?  What do I need to do to sound pro?
  4. Very nice  Once of my favorite Iron Maiden songs and I have been meaning to give a shot at this myself
  5. Dude you are awesome. My favourite is your version of the number of the beast.....simply mindblowing
  6. I agree. What I meant by tone was about getting the best version of your voice. As an engineer I like to understand physics and maths behind sing. My understanding is like this. When your tone is good you have an optimal mix of the lower mid and high frequencies of voice. In my practice over last year or so this involves a delicate combination of right volume, open throat, right laryngeal position, mix of chest and head resonance etc. I am more evolved in my singing to be ble to apply this concept to relatively easier songs. Now if you want the same tone in a song with fifth octave notes the skill levels are far higher. Even in posts here I do a mix of easy songs and tougher songs. For easier songs I seek validation on tonality and on tough songs I seek suggestions on my technique. It really helps me to compartmentalise this way.
  7. Killer I tried this and posted a wip version. This is a crazy difficult song. Your version is quite good. If you keep at it you will certainly improve your quality. I think to sing this like Freddie there is a brute strength quality that I fell may require strength building in addition to actual practice. As awe inspiring as Freddie was, he had nodules and I am not sure he could have sustained this.
  8. Thanks for sharing. What a genius Freddie was. I am trying to cover this. maybe in another month or two before am confident of posting some acceptable version of the song
  9. Thanks for your kind words. Took me a while to realise singing is as much about tone as it is about pitch accuracy. This I well within my range and a much easier song for me. At lleast here I post songs "just" outside my abilities.
  10. Any Eagles fans out here, and especially Tim Schmidt(a k a Skeletor)'s voice?  Love this guys voice and this is one of my favorite ballads..    I have a much heavier voice than Tim(most I would think).. So for a long time, I was not sure how to sing this song.. I would try to sing like him and it would sound really whiny and nasal.  It has taken me a lot of effort to strengthen my head voice and get over this problem.    https://app.box.com/s/h9d2lx05wxs5p0nxvdc1kiq4qqhmml68   Thanks to anyone who listens and drops in a line or two.
  11.   Thanks Killer.. I can see what you mean.. I will work on a repost!
  12.   Thanks.. I have been meaning to do a lighter version.. I am pretty sure I can do a version that addresses all criticism(valid ones at that), but the truth is that I love Freddie's raw power in this song  I feel that the song will lose its character a little bit with a lighter tone... The emotion that I feel while singing this song is one of a superhero.(you get the idea!)..    But in the end, we sing for listeners and listeners are the best judge.. So let me work on a different style and repost later!
  13. Hi Jugulator... Thanks for your feedback.. You are one of my favorite singers and your "very nice try" means a lot more to me than hearing "great job" from lesser knowledgeable folks(no offense to anyone)..    How would singing lower key help?  With co-ordination?? I suppose you mean for practice?  I surely aspire to sing these songs in the original key and I think I should be able to do it at some point.. How do I approach given this?
  14.   Hi Killer.. Thank you for your feedback.  Can you please demonstrate what you mean with a recording if possible.  I am not sure I get what you mean..
  15. Phew.... This is a tough song to mix with so many changes in the volume and intensity of the singing, and needless to mention an even tougher song to sing.  I did a version last year and since I have made some improvements, I thought it is time to post a version 2 of the song..    The chorus makes it so difficult to sing in tune(it is so loud in the karaoke track) and the phrasing makes it difficult to record without backing track... Took me nearly two days of effort to produce a version I am happy with.  There are a lot of mistakes, but am giving myself a break since I am not a pro :-)     Thanks to everyone who listens to the song and drops in a sentence or two...    https://app.box.com/s/fm1yf25i19v69dz7qttseqhlo7cbr5j7
  16. Thanks George.. Loved your version.  Did not think that you "struggled" with the high parts..    I think you are spot on with the story telling bit.  Another song I love and would like to cover someday is "Hallowed be thy name" which also is a story...    MY issue is that I just wake up one day and say that I will record this song.. I feel after I record and I keep singing through the week that follows, I actually improve a bit.  Next time I should practice for a week and then post!! LOL
  17. Toughest songs for me are the ones that suddenly mix belting through the passagio.  Like this song is relatively simple and all of a sudden, the A4 comes out of the blue.  I am not exaggerating.  I can actually sing some Maiden songs with a fair degree of comfort which have much higher notes.  But rock and metal singing has a higher margin for error(no kidding).  Learning how to bridge and sing high is a challenge.  But once you get through the tough part, the rest is tone.  Except really qualified listeners, slight variations in tone may not be obvious to the casual listener.     Here it sticks out like a sore thumb when you make small mistakes..
  18. Thanks to YouTube we get to listen to amazing singers like you. I believe you. Am sure it took several years to hone your art
  19. Listened to Aces High and hollllllllllly c$#$@#.. It is amazing...    How do you mix your songs?  Are they done in a studio.. Sounds pro...
  20. Sounds awesome.....sorry to nitpick. But 4:14 sounds slightly off. Maybe coz I am hearing this on iPad speakers I dont know
  21.   Is the wider tonality a timbre thing or is that something I can work on?  So the dipthong is L ah f eee?
  22.   Jugulator, thanks for dropping in.  Big fan of your work BTW.  Singing a step lower causes issues for me with support.  I need to descend into my chest voice and I have a more pronounced "break".. Plus the song in the original scale is too cool to resist     How can I work on learning to "hold back air"
  23. Actually, on listening again, I hate this version!! To me this is a deceptively tough song.  I struggle with quick jumps across notes.. The range is not an issue, but I think I need to work on the progression of the notes...
