  1. Yea that's right....I should be pissed off at you you bastard. How dare you like my song Thanks Ron. Actually I may remix it tomorrow at work (I don't have the file here today). I just remixed Georgia which I posted below and re did the link. I added a little reverb. I did the same with "The Weight" which isn't posted but I sent you a copy last week (it's in my Soundclick list anyway), I now remixed that. I re-mixed it today as with Georgia. Compression and reverb. I thought Georgia came out good if you get a chance to listen again in the other thread from last week. I'll try Texas Flood tomorrow although I may like the raw sound of it better than any reverb. We'll see. I have another Stevie Ray Vaughan song recorded for a couple of weeks already. "Life By The Drop" which i recorded at the same time I did Cold Shot. But I'm not sure how I like it and I may take a break from posting songs for a bit anyway. I've done too many Thanks again Ron.
  2. The only place I sing is in a small room in my house when recording and in my car. I've sung out 3 times in my life. Once 6 years ago, once last September and the last time last February. All Karaoke and all on cruises. Since then (Feb) I've been looking to improve.
  3. I saw that you can do that on Audacity also and it has been on my mind. You don't know how bad I would love to sing "Loving Touching And Squeezing" by Journey When I sing it by myself I sing it good but with the track in the original key? No way....lol.
  4. I finally got the cubase (LE 5) installed and registered today on my basement computer. I never use that computer for recording even though it's the better computer because the sound upstairs is better. But now that I think about it, that is because when I was recording without equipment, only using a camera and its mic, the "echo" in the room upstairs was great. It was built in reverb. I am guessing that my basement, which is a finished basement with acoustic tile ceilings is better...right? The sound down there is dead and that is why I never liked it for the camera mic. There isn't any echo....I imagine that is what they call dry? Now that I have recording equipment maybe I should start recording down there. But then I need to learn how to add the right reverb Anyway that computer is newer in the basement, and faster. Anyway, I think I might take a break from posting songs for a little while. This section seems to be on overload for Tommy songs :D
  5. Texas Flood by Stevie Ray Vaughan. This was a tough day trying to sing this after recording a cover of Joe Cocker's version of Bathroom Window. Not the best but I ain't doing it anymore today http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11635228&q=hi
  6. I read something about that but I'm unsure of how to do it. Well....more than unsure :/
  7. Tomorrow I am going to try a few things. One is distance from the mic which I already tried but then the volume was too low because of it. And the other is to play with the volume controls to counter the mic distance just mentioned. We'll see. I thought this song came out a little weird because it was missing the guitar. But tomorrow is "Texas Flood" with plenty of guitar parts.
  8. I can see what dokat is saying now that he mentions it but I don't usually pay much attention to that stuff unless it takes away from the singing. In this case it doesn't so for me it doesn't matter. Just another opinion I think that you sing well and sing this song well enough that I am only focused on that. it's very relaxing. I like the way you sing because you sing very easy and without strain while I on the other hand tend to sing loud. I like your songs for that reason. Really nice voice :)
  9. I really liked that Ryan and I'd be very interested in hearing how you sound with the lessons. Very interesting and pleasing voice for me. I really like that coarseness or kind of gravely sound. I'm sure there will be those that can nit pick it. But I liked it a lot If I had one thing to say as a critique it would be the word "curtain." You seem to be softening the "T" too much and saying "curdin" Nice job Ryan
  10. This song is normally 3:55 long but the backing track I have is 5:05. For the extra minute or so I had to ad-lib a little and add a verse or two. Also I allowed time for where a guitar solo would be. I think this was a backing track for guitar. Actually there is no guitar in it, which sounds a little odd...but... http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11623665&q=hi
  11. Thanks Kieth. By the way I was thinking about you today after hearing a song on the radio. Have you ever done "Alone Again" by Dokken here on the forum? I thought it sounded like something you would do good.
  12. Thanks Ron. And that will be the last time I do/re-do this song... I just had to do it one more time since I hadn't done it with equipment before. And I kind of have the song down now and in my comfort zone as far as my own feel. So that's it. DONE!!! :D
  13. I have two more SRV tracks already recorded and on WED I will be doing Texas Flood as per jonathangraham suggestion. I'll call it a request, because my ego is big
  14. Sorry, I just had to do it (again) http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11633119&q=hi
  15. Ahh Jimi Hendrix! You must be reading my top ten list from This thread. :D
  16. Texas Flood !! I love that song and love singing it. And I have a backing track. But, the track I have has the guitar solos in it which makes it way too long for just a vocal rendition. That's why I haven't done it. And thanks for the listen and comment Oh, and to compare my vocals with SRV is a great compliment to me. As odd as that may be considering all the big range singers most people aspire too Thanks for that.
  17. Thanks guys. The funny thing is that SRV was/is my favorite guitar player. But when I tried to learn to play the guitar back around 2001, as would always happen, I'd end up singing more than practicing the instrument. And as much as people look at SRV for his playing I always loved his vocal style. The same thing goes for Clapton. He is known for his guitar but I pay more attention to his singing style...which I love. For a long while Clapton was a big influence on my singing. Well him and Gregg Allman Since getting the recording equipment I have been itching to do another version of Georgia On My Mind. I think it will sound much better recorded this way as opposed to how I was singing it before via camera. And I had a new interpretation down last I sang it (the other day). I've posted so many versions here that I will spare you guys another one. I'll do one with the equipment just to see how it sounds and keep it in my soundclick list is all. Thanks again, much appreciated. Glad you liked it.

  19. Thanks Keith Do they have cakewalk for windows?
  20. I usually pick songs I like. Not songs I feel I can imitate. I'm not looking for big notes either. I'm more into feel and texture as well as tone. I don't usually attempt to sound like the original. That has already been done and you can go out and buy the original CD to hear that.....or youtube I'm trying to sound like me. But I think you know this already Ron Thanks bro @ Paul (pmac) Thanks Paul Technical issues are something that is a work in progress. And although it matters, what matters first (to me) is that if I get up on stage right now, would people like my singing. With the technical stuff my singing will (hopefully) get better and they will like it more. But I don't want to be getting up there now and not sounding good. Sounding the best I can is another story....like I said, hopefully that will come with work And yes, I'm in the dreaded learning curve of recording, and it's a bitch. I'm really not a techno guy. Thanks again for the comment.
  21. I have another program that came with my interface called Cubase. However at this point I don't know how to use it and can't (or am unwilling) to take the time to learn it since I'm already in the learning curve of Audacity. I'd rather keep moving forward than to stop and start over at this point. at least for the time being. RE: Chest voice/pitchyness. I hear the pitch issues on most of my recordings but attribute them to just being off pitch rather than issues of pulling chest or straining etc. On songs where I go off pitch I find that on the particular backing track I can't seem to find the pitch (in the off spot) on "that" track. Where as when I go back to the original song I'm ok. Some of these tracks are just a touch different and they are throwing me off. So I think it's on me and my ear and getting in sink with an odd backing track rather than a technique issue. At least I think so But you may be right and it's worth my looking into. I do know that when I go to high I sometimes go sharp (I think I go sharp ). However, aside from the recording issues and the song vocals being low on this recording, I really liked it and thought I was on pitch throughout. I thought pitch wise, This was one of the best I've posted. But I could be wrong. See? others hear different. The odd thing about it is that maybe my ears are either really good or really bad. When I am hearing off pitches and trying to point them out, no one else is hearing it. When I don't hear them someone else is. My wife is very critical when I sing. I was chosen one time to perform a song on stage for a show. I had two days to learn a song, lyrics and all that I never sang or even knew before other than the title. I hated it when it was done and I have a CD of the performance. Terrible! I hate watching it so never do. Yet others like it. Even my wife , who hears everything, says it wasn't bad and doesn't hear the pitch spots. Even when I point out spots and saying "you don't hear that?" They look at me puzzled. So I'm starting to get confused.. Thanks Keith :)
  22. Some tracks come out low and some louder, I still haven't figured out why. I have been playing with the controls track to track. Maybe at some point I'll get the hang of this Well, I'm not even sure how much it matters. I'm not getting responses to my songs other than you. Hopefully it's lack of interest in my song choices or my bad recordings and not my singing :D
