  1. A month or two ago I mentioned that I sang “Let It be” with a band while on a cruise last February. Someone here mentioned they would like to hear that. I forget who it was…Qunicy or Vocalist dad….not sure. But I said I would do a version. Anyway, I made a couple of recordings of it but wasn’t satisfied with them so I put it on the back burner and eventually forgot about it. It seems that this is one of those songs that I love to sing and while singing it, I’m very happy with how it feels and sounds. But when I listen to it back ….not so good! I’m never satisfied with it. I ended up recording another version of it yesterday and liked it. Until I listened to it played back… But screw it, maybe it is what it is. So not to break my word; I did say I would post one. Here it is and as usual it has a little of my flavor added. For this song, just a touch. I didn't change it much. I posted “Sweet Jane” yesterday and today “Let it Be.” That’s enough of a break from my usual style….next it’s back to normal. I have two blues numbers waiting cued up and ready to go. Allman Brothers. Ok..here we go. "Let It Be" (The Beatles) http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11693614&q=hi
  2. I listened to this song the other day when you posted it but I think I was at work and forgot to respond I have to agree about the loud guitar. But IMO it's all about style....your style, not other peoples style. Stevie Ray Vaughan used to murder his guitar strumming hard and squeezing the neck. Ever see Bruce Springsteen play? Yowser!!! Now, I don't know exactly what genre of music you like to play so maybe you do need to tone it down. But that is up to you. However, I would say that maybe the video isn't the fault of your strumming as much as it is a fault of poor recording. I mean, I too used to just sing at a hand held camera and post it to youtube. Doing it that way leaves no sound control/mixing capability. So you're missing balance. Ok...screw all that Singing! I thought the vocals were fine. At this point you aren't at a place where someone would say "hey, you've gotta hear this guy sing.. friggin' great!!!" But at the same time no one would be throwing tomatoes at you either. You can sing "nicely." You just need to learn what to do with the tools you have. Right now you can draw a nice picture using a pencil...or doodle some great little sketches. You need to learn how to paint!!! Technique. Practice and learn....then practice some more. And more...
  3. You probably are Just kidding. Whatever it was (and maybe my description was bad) it added a little flavor.
  4. That's why I wrote this...so there would be no confusion I didn't say he was singing falsetto but I did say I heard some "slight" airyness. And, I said I liked it whatever it was. Just to be clear :D
  5. Thanks Kieth This song goes back to 1970 and brings back memories of hanging out at CGGB's in N.Y. as well as Maxs Kanses City where I got to hangout with the Ramones for a bit. Of course my favorite version is the one with the long guitar intro. :)
  6. I thought that was good and a good song also. Some higher parts sounded a slight bit airy or not as "head" as some of these songs are. Which led me to think of falsetto. I'm not saying you were singing falsetto....I'm only saying I thought of it. I thought of it because I know a lot of singers here seen to fear it. I tend to use it as effect and think it can add some nice texture sometimes. Whatever you were doing, on purpose or not sounded good. I think you may have been searching for the note in some spots? Sometimes I think we all have to do our own thing with a song, When we try to hard we lose our way. Nice job though over all. :)
  7. Ok, here's a real oldie. Does anybody remember "The Velvet Underground?" (Lou Reed). I used to love this song. Just for fun http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11691576&q=hi
  8. Thanks for listening guitargeorge....that site looks interesting. I'll have to take a look later on when I get some time.
  9. I've seen Robert Cray play with Eric Clapton back in the 80's at Madison Square Garden. Buddy Guy I would love to see but never have. Actually I was going to record this over again. I did it twice before this cut because once I screwed up the scream and once I screwed up the lyrics. On this one the track stutters at around 2:28 or 2:30 on the word love. Sounds like a record skipping. But I can usually only sing this song once and on this day this was the third time. When I went to record it again I couldn't sing, it hurt too much So I quit :D
  10. Isn't this about the third time you posted the same thing? :D
  11. No effects added, just singing at the wall again this time from closer :D
  12. A primal scream anyone? http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11683882&q=hi
  13. No gloss there brother. She is my best friend. That is why we really celebrate when we met. The story is long, but interesting. Thanks for the comment Vocalist D, I haven't heard from you in awhile and miss your comments on my songs Thanks for listening.
  14. Well, without music and recorded on a cell phone doesn't do you any favors. It makes it a little difficult to comment on, I suppose that is why no responses. But I thought your voice sounded nice and the tone was good. Pitch was pretty good. It sounded a tiny bit strained in some spots and when you go to the word "smile" at 15 seconds something happened there...it was like you set up for it, took a running start then leaped! It was a little choked/strained. Pretty nice though overall. Get some music to it :)
  15. Good stuff Kieth. I liked "All That I Bleed" better but they were both good songs. I really think you have developed your own distinctive voice. IMO it is truly recognizable at this point. I know you are intent on mastering the high notes and having them well connected but man, your lower tones (as well as mid range) are really nice. :)
  16. Thanks Ron. I might do it over just to see if I can get it a little better. We'll see. I tried splitting the tracks (I've done it before with other songs I've done) but for some reason it isn't working on this song. When I separate the tracks there is still music in the vocal track and vice versa.
  17. Thanks Kieth. Yea Ron, I never thought about the fact that we are so far apart yet we made a song together. Pretty cool. I used my "singing at the wall" method on this :)
  18. Here is a little something me and Ron worked out. Ron Stone, our very own ronws played acoustic guitar for the backing track and I sang the vocals over it. I call it a "Tee Stone Blues" production Stevie Ray Vaughans "Life By The Drop." I've done this song here before a few weeks ago. But this one is our own collaboration! http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11686865&q=hi&newref=1
  19. Thanks Kieth. There's no rush, I have almost 2 months. I'll get it to you at some point. I might re-record it and try a different approach to that one line. Thanks. I used natural reverb. I usually sing into a closet full of clothes then add reverb later. This time I sang facing away from the closet and about 2 feet from the plaster wall.
