  1. Man it is kinda raw... Does not sound bad, but the interpretation isnt comming... I think it can be much better. I hear it compressed back, allow it to flow more forward thinking of support, thinking of colour, open a bit more. The closed vowels are destroying the placement, I think some attention to them outside the song, "more twang" into them if you will. And more importantly, dynamics, you are bringing it too strong from the start! When you reach "take my hand" you dont have room to go stronger and its becomming compressed. Just keep it forward and round, dont think so much on making it stay full, your voice is already strong and trainned, the resonance will take care of it. Anyways this dude is one of the most amazing singers ever, the song is complicated as hell.
  2. Yeah it kinda becomes boring because there is not much variation, you know? There is no need to use air all the time, or even use it at all, you can go soft without becoming airy. Dont think of copying his tone, but rather try to figure what he does in terms of variations of intensity. If he is doing, air - soft - air. You can do soft - mid - soft, and the feeling will be exactly the same (in my opinion better, but this is a matter of taste). Still if you are beginning the lessons, wait until there, after you relax more it will be much easier to do it.
  3. Does not sound bad man, but its kinda too constant as it is now. I dont think its good yet. Your voice is sitting too backwards in the mix, and I also hear it is not quite open yet, some technical work to bring it forward and open would help. And man, this kind of song lives on the interpretation line. You need to work more, much more on the dynamics, specially on the beginning. I know the song is low and already is soft, but you will have to go even softer at some spots, use the closed vowels for this purpose too. Also the timming is a bit off on a few of the phrasings, which is also one of the crucial points on his songs. I loved the light on that video, it brings an awesome feel. Hang to that .
  4. Man, one of the best things Ive heard around here. Surprised me. Nailed the whole thing, and this song, although I know many consider easy, actually is easy to (*auto edit*) up, awesome delivery of the dynamics and the interpretation. More purple guys! Ever considered Knocking at your Back Door? I dont hear anything that actually compromises the delivery.
  5. Sounds pleasant to listen man. Keep it simple and soft as it is, let us know the outcome hehehe .
  6. Man that part you sent sounds really nice! Very nice voice and a a very nice capture of the feel, I dont see such an exagerated mimic in there. Record the whole thing! :)
  7. And we've only got one Felipe. Thank goodness, I mean, oh darn, I said that out loud ...... :D
  8. Daniel hehehe Justin actually the only part of your comment that matters to me is that you found it pleasant . Its not nasal, and mdew comment fits what you said like a glove. Thanks for letting me know that you like it, but other than that, before diving into technical comments of the sort, specially if you ever hear this kind of approach again, learn it first, someone may listen and it may bring damage. mdew ;)
  9. Justin tnx for your words man! Jens and Dan, oh I understand but you see, thats why I asked about "mid". If I go by what feels right, it just defines the EE and well, I dont want that... So I was trying to spread it a bit more and not let it get so "righty", so I figure its still too right, I will add some weird faces to give more feel hehehehe . Rob thank you man! Really appreciate the feedback! :)
  10. Owen man, I swear I still dont know what you are talking about! You mean it lacks ring or dynamics? The equipment is actually quite nice, I dont really appreciate suffering when not demonstrating something directly related to it . Daniel thanks! hahaha. Let me see if I understand you, take for example the phrase, "Highway Run, Into the midnight sun". What would be the more honest and true vowel for "mid"?
  11. Tnx Owen . Ill keep it in mind about the pitch, although the problem I spot is sharp, bugs my ears but it seems to work so I figure its ok. About the texture, not sure what you mean.
  12. ronws maybe, but more in the sense of how I may "sound" on what I write hahaha. About the coach thing, there is a lot of reasons. The most important ones are attention to details, a trainned perception and the interaction. About emission, got my hands full with something these days , but as soon as I upload the next video on recording I will send an explanation on the basics thread. Its quite straightforward. But as always understanding is not the same as learning the practical side... Consuming, tnx man! Not a really a baritone, just a heavy voice. But yeah its very different from Steve Perry. Some parts that he uses chest I had to use head right away for example, took me a while to map it all down for my voice .
  13. Wow! Hey thanks everyone for listenning and specially for the words! @Lord and Keith, thank you guys, I will keep it in mind! @mdew haha its just a matter of studying man, two years ago, I would ruin the song on the first verse. About the reverb, hard call, its 80s stuff... About the volume, my brother said the same, specifically on the second bridge, I will see what can be done. @Tommy I trust your ears my friend. So really thank you. @benny82 Tnx man! You are absolutely correct on the "Faithfully", requires an ajustment of the intention there. @ronws Thanks man! hahaha you mean something like a review karma? I dont really think that I did harm to anyone, nor that I would be harmed by someone pointed me something they've heard. I really value this kind of interaction man. If I am able to sing this song with quality today, it was because of one of these, on another time and another place. A lot of trainning of course, but it started from a very honest pointer I received. And hell, I cant express how thankfull I am for that today. @jon Thank you man. Do you have any specific pointers on the english? Which spots are the more apparent? Or is it like the whole thing ahahah? @everyone really thanks! Dont worry about this review thing or whatever, thanks for viewing and for your words!
  14. Been working on this song for a while for now. Almost done. I figure its already working to sing live, and since all that talk about tessitura and stuff is going on, here it goes. When its complete I will send the final version, hopefully with a better video capture quality. Tnx for watching in advance . If possible drop a few lines!
  15. Very cool man. Hard song, the tricky spot is the chorus, I think you could use a bit more of attention to dynamics in there, its comming a bit "linear" so to say. The rest is working very well . Just a note, on a few spots, where you go near the passagio, I have the impression you are kinda walking on thin ice in there, almost braking, some attention to this in trainning will do wonders.
  16. benny Ive juts heard your silent lucidity version. The beginning is full of problems and Im yet to hear all this depth you think you have. What I do hear is an attempt to round on the higher parts. Although the idea is not necessarily wrong, if its not done to allow resonance all you are doing is muffling and sending your voice back. You are basing consistency on attempts to mimic sounds. Does not sound good at all and application of the fachs in this state is a total waste of time. Before thinking of this, learn how to sing one song, without tampering with your voice and without problems with phrasing and melody. Your voice is all backwards, closed, chest voice has a tongue tension going on that must be released. Orientation and trainning, forget all this non sense. If you want to do thigs alone, just sing and aim for quality.
  17. I like it. The chorus is sounding awesome man. Really good job. Keep it up . How many takes in this? ;)
  18. Haha never mind the falsetto then, I was like wth are those backings. Lows are natural... Are them well supported? You need a bit more of consistency and dynamic variations there, bring it even lower on some spots and then resolve into the chorus. Open the posture a bit, the pitch will take care of keeping the character depth.
  19. Hey man... Nice catchy guitar, awesome execution there. Very "seattlish" lol. On the vocals, you could do a few ajustments that in my opinion are necessary to make it work, there is a falsetto on the backings and the beginning right? Kinda wailling, ala Alice in Chains to me, they are a bit weird right now, very weird actually . Timming and the choices of notes, make it lock on the guitar and keep it high and quiet, I think it will fit nicely. The first verses, lower in pitch, they are not sounding natural, think of a lower volume there, dont try to project so much, and follow the lower dynamics on the guitar. The higher parts sound natural and killer, just one note on the first chorus piece sounds out of the harmonic field, your idea kicks ass and will sound awesome, but you droped a semitone bellow the note that would fit, I think its the second note. On the second chorus melody, its quite nice. Fix these and I think it will come very nice... Ive listenned to Plush too, I like it Now, isnt there anyway to improve the recording conditions? Too much reflections man, if you cant get close to the mic, find a way to dampen the place youll record in at least a bit... The lows are washing everything.
  20. Well it is pretty bad, you kinda spoken the whole thing on a funny voice... Let me ask you this, lets say that you wanted to play the violin, what would you do? How would it sound if you picked a violin and recorded yourself playing it like right noe? Probably seek lessons and would probably be pretty bad. Its the same... And thats all there is to it, instruction, and on this site you already have access to a trainning system and the teacher/coach who implements it, and a lot, but really a lot of trainning. As consuming pointed, I hear an attempt to sound like the guy too. Just dont. Its a very bad idea, specially from what you have right now. Teacher, trainning and then rock n roll \m/ ;)
  21. I dont see how you can imply such things, obviously results that are not yet on a good stage can not be blamed on methods, specially if he began working. Still, since histrionics and summary judgement are the cool words now, and english barriers do not exist, only a very short desire to read walls of obtuse text, this very same person was on the technique forum arguing, considering, wondering about the beauty of each methods, how the "belted" quality can be perceived and bla bla bla. The result shows clearly that he still does not have the skill to even understand those ideas. So yes I am saying: teacher and train. And this applies to you too rowns. Teacher and train. If the person of trust is Robert, then thats it, book sessions, and train. Whatever you think that this implies, what I "imply" is only that the result being presented is not good. Now thats me and my opinion, my background and the results I show are the only things supporting it. I wont "dissect" what was done in terms of pitch or whatever, its enough as it is. It would be wise to listen, but thats not my choice or my problem.
