  1. Ron, there's no need to feel ashamed of anything. You contribute greatly to this forum. You stick up for anyone no matter how "bad" someones performance is. You point out what they could improve, BUT you also point out what you like and when they go hand in hand like that, someone is really going to take heed and improve. Singing is pretty mental when you think about it. If you can't even believe in yourself, how can you possibly improve on what you were being critiqued about? Ron, you restore a persons faith in him/herself and thats pretty much the point of constructive criticism. People are so busy trying to put themselves on a pedestal when they critique that they forget that praise about SOMETHING is also beneficial to the person you're critiquing because it gives them a drive to truly improve. If what they heard is just a bunch of negative things and absolutely no positive aspects about their performance, how the hell are they supposed to have the drive to improve themselves on what you critiqued them on? Critiques like that have no value whatsoever other than to degrade someone and to make them give up. Singingnewbie actually brought up a good point. The thing is, the audience will have the final say in if they liked what they heard, not some "judge" who's getting paid to criticize you. Having someone with credentials to critique you is obviously beneficial, but the audience is literally the majority and is gonna be the final "judge" because if they like what they heard, you are going to go far. If you guys were to perform this in a live setting, I'm sure the results would have been different than the what's here, because obviously an audience has a variety of likes/dislikes and someone out there will like your performance. Just sitting at home with headphones in your ear listening to this performance is just not the same experience as watching and listening to it happen live in person. Just my 0.02 :)
  2. Your definately improving with each post it seems! You had the right placement and resonance for the song and the only thing I can critique is that on some end phrases you lost a bit of support and went a shade flat, but thats about it . Good job man!
  3. Cool to see duets happening! Hope there's more in the future for TMV. Anyways overall a cool song to choose to duet with and both of you nailed your lines. The only thing I can add is that to double check to make sure you both are balanced and synchronized in the final mix. Ron you sounded a bit muffled to me for some reason (maybe it was the compressor kicking in? O_o idk) Whenever you guys went in unison Bay, you overpowered Ron a bit on a few of the verses, but again thats probably due to the mixing because Ron's pretty loud on his own . I could be wrong, but this kind of duet might work out better if both of you recorded this live together like on a webcam session, but I don't know if thats possible... In the long run, good work, I could tell you guys put some effort into this.
  4. That was fantastic! I subconsciuosly started to clap along to the beat :D
  5. Cool! Sounds like Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan all-in-one. :)
  6. I just wanted to add that you gotta take a little time to perfect your diction and that'll make the lyrics a little clearer. Its all good though because english might not be your first language and perfecting pronunciation as well as vowel mods are both tricky. *Edit Don't worry about your accent either some singers are famous because of it (I.E Klaus Meine)
  7. Hey man, Nice effort on this song! You have a pretty strong mixed voice sound already, what you have to watch out for/listen to is your pitch, at times it was shaky. A lot of the vowels are really tricky and a few times you struggled with a few of the higher notes, but thats understandable because this is Robert Plant we're talking about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A12KbW4vPQ This live version might help you out on some issues. Notice that Robert Plant modifies the vowels at the chorus " haaven ah nahvas braekdawn" Sounds like gibberish saying it out loud but when your wailing whole lines in the E5-F5(!) range it helps to ease some tension. Try modifying the vowels like Rob does, it might help you with potentially really stressful consonant sounds. Keep working at it, You'll get there, I promise! Cheers, Wabba
  8. Really enjoyed listening to that, Ron. Great guitar playing and groove! Your voice reminds me sort of like Neil Young here.
  9. . Fantastic job all around! Including you Jens You guys just all had incredible chemistry. The rhythm section was jamming, that guitarist was smoking, and you were wailing dude! I sure hope your bands on tour by now Thanks for all the feedback and support everyone! I think I still have a long way to go, recording wise. It almost sounds like my mic has no Mid-range frequency, and it makes my voice sound too dopey for some reason. Right now I'm using audacity. Is there any way to adjust the EQ to fix this?
  10. Pretty cool man! Like that song, you really brought the angst it needed and it definitely sounded like you meant every word you said. You kind of remind me of Axl Rose when he digs into the more mellow side of himself. I heard this song was about Billy Corgan's autistic brother. Is that true? Towards the end you lost a little bit of support and pitch but that's all I can say because it sounded like you were playing the guitar and doing vocals at the same time. I'm still working on that myself, so don't worry just make sure you support well, especially if you're sitting down. Cheers. Eric
  11. Really good stuff man! You have even better support than Bono did back then. Your tone and pitch was also spot on for the song. I would love to hear you try New Years Day.
  12. Hey guys, It's been a while since I posted anything in this section. I've been yearning to have a song to test my upper range and I just couldn't think of the right one; then just like that Highway Star comes on the radio (while I'm driving to college in my Chevy Aveo). Eureka! That definately takes the cake. That song is certainly a challenge. Thank you all for listening and being a terrific world audience! Big shout out to everyone who took the CIT challenge. You guys all rocked it! Now to set the bar really low here's my take P.S I would really love to hear all of your takes, fellow TMV members. This song is chock-full of fun. Many blessings, Eric
  13. I honestly never heard this song until now, but you made me love it! You have a really mellow soulful timbre that sort of reminds me of Billy Joel. You ever take on his music?
  14. Thank you all for taking time out of your day to comment! I totally agree with you Keith I was holding back a bit too much with the mid section. That part was a real challenge as the area around B4- D5 is that point where I am still developing later bridging from the chest voice and head for songs like this that hover around that range. I had to stand back from the mic sometimes as it has terrible low and high-end frequency pickup so that probably didn't help the end result. Thanks for your input on recording tips iron Zeppelin as well! What quality condenser mics do you guys recommend for someone starting out in recording?
  15. Kudos to you Mdew. You have a character about your voice that really fits this song. A part of me died the day I heard of Phil's passing :(
  16. Hey guys, its Eric (for those of you feeling goofy about calling me Wabba). I've been away for a while working full time in college but I'm back now. I'm going out on a limb and posting a cover of Led Zeppelin's "The Song Remains the Same". This time I worked on singing way lighter and brighter than usual in full voice so I don't push for the higher notes later as the song progresses. This is the just me and a 15$ desktop mic you can probably find at wal-mart and the recording is raw with absolutely no mixing so you can probably hear all my mistakes easier lol. My internet connection kind of blows so there is a bit of lag with the track I found online so I apologize O_o feel free to skip that awkward moment where it buffers in the middle of the verse. I really wish I could edit that part out >.<. Once again I really appreciate any kind of feedback so let me what you all think Peace out you guys and have a happy New Year.
  17. Yeah, supposedly just a pinch of nasal resonance can add a lot of "cut" through your voice. I think Ann Wilson from Heart really focused her resonance on the front end giving it her famous "biting" tone on a lot of her belts. As for "derailing" the thread no worries! I mean its not like I own the forum or anything Thanks again for your feedback & advice! P.s I apologize for anyone listening that S*at a brick at the first second, I forgot the mic was on and I was warming up a little before I did the song.
  18. So amiright to assume you've covered Dr. Feelgood @ one point lol. I also heard Vince used to inhale helium before warm-ups to get that timbral sound lol but that could just be rumors and if thats the case many "helium" tenors have went to that option But yeah I've also noticed something weird after I sang that song. It seems like the higher you sing in chest voice the more it resembles your head voice. Is that because in the upper-mid voice, it starts to resonate more in the nasal cavity? Once again thanks for the compliment man! I'll take that as a good sign lol.
  19. That was rad man! Your tone fits the song like an Armani suit and I can honestly believe every word you say the way you sing it lol.
  20. Thanks for the feedback man! I was actually doing it not to sound like anyone in particular, but to work on strengthening the upper mid-voice, plus getting a little bit more clearer on my vowels which you can probably hear me trying to work it out lol. This is just that point in anyone's range where you kind of have to blur the line between lower and higher registers and thats what makes this song a real tricky one. For me, I was actually trying "stretching" my chest voice to the limits the entire duration of the song which attibutes to the more "muffled" sound I guess. My throat really didn't hurt at all afterwards so maybe I wasn't shredding my vocal cords as much as I thought lol. Chris had a slightly more nasal aspect of his tone thats really awesome but it was impossible for me because my nose was pretty stuffed up. I really choked terribly the very last "yeah." I don't think I ever held an E5 for that long before but whatever that did, helped my placement for the last verse and chorus. What styles do you typically sing Ron? I'd be interested in hearing your sound ^_^
  21. Does this work? https://soundcloud.com/wabba_treads420/untitled-128
  22. This is my first full take of the song and probably my first venture into the no-mans-land AKA Passagio. If theres anything I can improve on, let me know. I have a bit of allergies still from the pollen in the air if my voice sounds a bit "muffled". I also choke on a few of the consonants in the song like Yuh, you know the usual suspects >.< but I tried to keep on going anyway, because that's the important thing. Anyways I'm open to any kind of feedback so bring it on Internet  No but really, you guys don't have to mince words because I'm going to start taking vocal lessons soon for musical theater my next semester in college and I should have an idea of what to tell my future coach to focus on helping me improve. http://snd.sc/1g9z5fBprobably
