Hey Reisbro, I cannot say for certain hoe Mivke recorded his cover, but the vas majority uses backing tracks (instrumental tracks) or karaoke tracks to provide the accompaniment for singing. So, in order to start recording you will need at least a backing track of the song you want to record (if you don't play yourself any instrument), a decent basic microphone, mic cable, an audio interface (a piece of equipment that will convert the signal of the microphone to your computer, and a recording program, or DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). I think you can find lots of useful info in here http://www.themodernvocalistworld.com/forum/9-home-recording/

So, if you need help to get the equipments you should check the The Vocal Gear Store http://astore.amazon.com/thevocastudin-20
And if you need more technical info (it seems that you do) on how to put everything together you should check this post about Home Recording

    Good luck man!

Hey Reisbro, thanks for taking a listen!

I've been rather lazy as of late, but hopefully there will be another cover coming from me soon!
Also, looking forward to hearing your covers man.

Thanks for listening Gnee and G! I think one thing I could do better with harder songs is splitting up the recording sessions instead of trying to chug through the whole song in one go.  I redid some sections of the song this morning in the first chorus, the bridge, and the chorus after the key change. It's the same link

Yeah! Indeed it is very interesting. In my voice, from D#5 to E5 I feel a bit of thinning, in E5 it feels like its starting to become pure headvoice and the chest voice that was present dissappears making the sound less round and brighter. I have not experienced much from E5 to F5, only some brute full voice I did for a couple recordings and some falsetto fast and short slides having a sustained E5 as base, so I don't really know exactly what I feel, but there may be some kind of bridge idk, lol.

Any and all feedback welcomed, had to drop the key on this one considerably to be able to do it comfortably but still spotty.  Thanks in advance for the time.

Hahah.don't worry, man. I can sing up to an E5 and I'm doing fine I think. I've done some occasional F-F#5 but mostly only recordings. The most important thing I think, is to master where the bulk of your singing will be

Hahahha, definitely, man!  I like the direction your voice is taking.
The thing about this improvising thing is that I personally go very physical and carried away. You can go as intense as you want, not caring about consonants, and just enjoying and memorizing the feelings of the voice in the throat haha  I love this pillowy feeling I get on the C4-G4 area on my pharynx/soft palate.

Also, the mid range and first bridge must be like iron if one wants to sing around the second bridge, so hammering on the first bridge area on a high intensity, on different vowels ( OOs and EEs are VERY VERY important! I personally work on OOs as much as I do AHs ) is one of the best exercises you can do hahah

Nice song, man!  It sounds really good. You seem to get the vibe and the feeling of the song very well. I haven't listened to the original, but I like your interpretation enough to not want to listen to the original, haha.  The only one thing is that I hear some consonant inconsistencies somewhere in there, like... a not well coordinated "L", so the word sounded funny, and something like that. And also, a bit of an inconsistency with the highest notes in the song, It doesn't matter that it changes a bit in timbre, its alright. Voices change throughout the range, we have all sorts of colors and spaces, BUT it didn't sound as reliable as it could be, but it could be due to not being that warmed up. In some of those high places it felt a bit shaky, or a bit chaotic, which I don't mind... but I think it was not the intention, right? That's why I'm making the observation. Overal, I like your timbre and the way you¿re using your voice, man. You have made a lot of progress

Now, I know you don't like doing exercises, you like to get right into singing hahah  but singing this song as a warm up may not be the most efficient way I think.
If you don't like doing exercses you could just grab the guitar and improvise some atmospheric stuff, guitar and voice, sustaining long AHs and other vowels, in different intensities, until your voice feels pumped up and ready to belt and take the pressure, hahah.
I do this as a warm up, I don't do scales anymore when training ( unless I want something in particular ), but now I have more of a musical approach. I just do whatever note comes out, in the most comfortable pitch, usually around the B3-C4, in mid-high intensity, and start improvising melodies around that pitch.
The area of pitches starts expanding, and when I feel very comfortable sustaining long G4-A4 in high intensity then I know I'm ready to sing and my voice can take the load of more chaotic stuff, like the songs I find hard.

I'm just mentioning this to you because I know the feeling of wanting to sing right away, haha, but really really it is always best to sing very warmed up. Because it sounds better and it FEELS so much better. Imagine how it would have sounded if you had warmed up before    So, I hope that doing something like this might make you enjoy warming up a little more.
Letting my voice do whatever it wants to do and whatever feels more comfortable, cranking up the intensity pretty fast. From the middle of the voice first, to the extremes. At least for me is far more interesting than doing scales. And if you improvise along with another instrument it definitely will train your ear too.

Hi MDEW, that is exactly what I always do too: name it as song title vocal practice. They got me once. Then, I re-uploaded the file with a totally different name (Vocalpractice HardRock Mar2016, and they still got me. So, from now on I will be posting my cover songs on the Box server. Cheers

Here is what I don't understand about Soundcloud. I get it, they want to help protect copyright. Here's the deal about copyright. If you buy a karaoke track from a legitimate retailer, you have paid copyright for use of what is basically a pre-master stem. You only have to pay additional royalties if you want to sell that recording of yours as a single or part of an album or collection of songs. Because selling that recording you made involves what is called mechanical rights. (reproduction of the material in a medium to be used by others.
If there is no cost, I don't see what the problem is.
A company that owns a bar pays a blanket fee to ASCAP to play whatever music on the jukebox or however they are playing music. Because then, the music is part of the environment the owner is "selling" to the public.

Congratulations, You are just like the rest of the male population. Singing is NOT instinctive, there are many aspects that go into it. Best answer is to get a GOOD teacher or GOOD program. "The Four Pillars of Singing" is a good program.
That being said, the reason you sound the way you do when you speak is do to a coordination you are using. You could just as easily speak lower and sound like  an advertising announcer. When speaking we use things like accents, inflections and other types of adjustments that are learned from our environments that  we do not use in singing. Figuring out all of this stuff is almost impossible on our own.

I had a Literal Deja-Vu experience ............... Like you have been here before but know you have not. Hearing the same background noises and seeing the same junk sitting on your table. I view these experiences as a confirmation that I am on my destined path regardless of how bad or good my situation is. Kind of like a mile marker of a life path. Either that or my Meds did not wear off yet.
I never had any problem singing high notes when mimicking Axle. I have problems when trying to sound consistent with my lower notes or sounding "Full and modal" in the upper range. It is like the sound of Johnny Cash to F4 and Axle singing from F#4 to E5.(not exactly, but it is good for an example)

Hi David, it is nearly impossible to identify what the problem is without listening to you singing a song, or parts of songs where you do well and not so well, or at least some vocalizes, although singing a real song would be the best way for the very experienced guys of this forum to give you a genuine help. Cheers

I liked Javastorm. You got such nice tone in your voice that it is a really good match for this song. I think you sound very good and pass on emotion. You might be straining just a little bit on the high notes, but it could be just a matter of putting more time on this song until the coordinations become more natural for your body. Hopefully the more experienced guys will give you better technical advice. Cheers

I've been listening to Mariah's older work recently and wanted to try one of her songs that didn't employ the whistle register. In this key, the top note is C#5, on "SOMEthing just went wrong" but I ended up changing the melody in that line. I did try to do the 4 or 5 B4's and C5's in the rest of the song though. This song was challenging dynamically and for a million other reasons - especially the really low verses and much higher choruses. I was trying to get comfortable in that mixed/head voice sort of configuration for the second half of the song. I had to keep reminding myself to keep my soft palate raised for those weird sections of the chorus that sit around A4. Any and all feedback welcome!
