Nice and smoothe my man, butter with the lows. I can definitely hear the inner Maxwell when you go up in the False.

I see you representing for the Grown Folks' side of R&B. Keep it up.

I think you have a nice, manly tone. It sounds good to me.

As you say, bringing this tone to the high notes makes this song more challenging, so you usually use falsetto at the top. I think some of the difficulty of the top notes is because the tone is losing some "clearness" around middle C (For example at :34 "and sit" at :57 "seas" you are medium intensity near middle C and raspy, but as you continue lower in pitch and intensity, you sound very smooth).

If you were to clear bring a soft but clear tone to that area in practice, then work on making it connected, that may give you more release.

Nice job on a difficult song.

Thank you Ron and MDEW. My speaking voice is quite low and raspy, so to follow John above middle C I'd need to use a bit of volume, which i can't do in my living arrangement.
I tried to use about 30% volume, and the mushy/wobbly first version was the result.

I had a window of about an hour today where I could record, so i tried some different approaches. I found one I felt more confident in and posted it at the top. Still pretty light though.

I liked it. As good as Elvis' version. You have a great tone and I liked your interpretation and what you did with some of the melody line.

Because someone could possibly due a rock version or metal version, which of course, would require a different backing track for instrument timbres.

I'd say you should work this up into a full length version.

And I can like it because I am not a judge or will decide who "wins" the challenge.

Not too bad Real. The falsetto sounded great believe it or not.
The main thing about the lower part is just being a little too light. Most likely from being the first time you recorded anything.
      Cool. Thanks for joining.

Edit: let me clarify this a little.....You are not singing too light for this song.....those little wobbles were from singing light and not holding on to the note.

    The "For Brenda" adds authenticity

I can tell that all of the notes are in your "easy zone" from the consistency and relaxed quality of your tone, which is great, because that gives you the room to do your own thing. I think it's good you didn't try to mimic John's approach, because that would take away from what the Ronws has to offer with his interpretation of the song. Also, I agree with you saying that the rigidity of the backing track takes away from us, in comparison to what we could do with our own instruments.

All in all, Good work Ronws, and if you record another version I'll be glad to listen to that one as well.

Hello! As proposed by Elvis_Osmanovic we are organizing a friendly competition, to stimulate everyone on their studies and just have some fun. Due to the friendly nature, there are no prizes and no strict rules about it. The song of the Challenge is : "All of Me" by John Legend I´ve linked here a backing track that I found and that seems acceptable (although it has backing vocals, and they are auto-tuned   ). But, feel free to record the song in any manner you want, accapella, guitar+vocals, a different version, other backing tracks, etc. I know that not everyone has the condition to do an overdub recording, so my suggestion for those that may like the idea but don't have the means (or the time) to do so is: - place a cellphone on the room 2 or 3 meters away from you;- set it to record;- play the backingtrack on a good stereo (set the EQ to flat);- sing on top of it. This way you can balance the sound on the room and you will record what you are hearing. The result will not be hi-fi but at least will not get in the way. Auto-tune won´t be allowed, for obvious reasons. And I also kindly ask the participants to go easy on the editing. To participate, all you need to do is send your version on the review section, on a new thread, and send the link to your thread here. I will keep this thread clean so we can organize it better, to talk about the Challenge, please use the >ORIGINAL THREAD. Postings made here with any other content other than the link to your song will be moved over there. You can participate up to April 30th, I believe its enough time, if you guys think it needs to change, let me know on the original thread and we can adjust it. The winner will be decided by voting right after that. Good Luck!!!John Legend All Of Me (Karaoke).mp3
