Personally for mecits crucial to do 30-40 min of resonant tracking. It really makes all the difference. AWESOME warmup. I just recently got in a band (buddy and me, 2 guitars and me on vocals) for summer gigging and when i actually do it it changes everything. I was able to sing 2-3 hours consistently.
After that sirens and onsets is the game changer. Its simple enough to explain but tricky to execute properly. But if you do and understand why and how, its monster.

That felt like the most heart felt lip sync I've ever heard.
She was even a tad flat sometimes to my ear. So she had the integrity to not even tune her backing track and maybe even sang her backing track all in one take.
I guess the next step is to make all mics double sided, just in case.

Well, keep me informed... I want you to succeed and "get it"... feel free to reach out and if you can take private lessons with me over the internet via Skype, it will make a huge difference... I highly recommend at least three sessions with me so you can understand how to train The Foundation Building Routine better.

    Hi guys! I'm Rodrigo again.

I hadn't been training due  flu I had and now I started again.
As you may guess, I'm a begginer and I have tons of ideas and questions. This one is really cool, and you will see why.

I found out that the FBR is awesome but it has tons of information and for the part-time musician, it is critical to know what to practice in order to make more productive sessions. I've been playing gutiar for 15 years now, and also I play a lot of styles (classical, rock, acoustic, percusive, etc) and the key to progress and still have fun is to have goals. I mean, personal, realistic and short-terms goals that you can acomplish in a few weeks or months and then move on to another thing. Set a new goal, and keep moving.

Now that I'm into singing, I can have practice sessions for 45 min 5 to 7 times a week. Some of them even until 1 hour. So I was doing this things to get better in things that I need to get better now. I do this:

    ---Resonant tracking
1 T&T Slow then Fast 2 T&R the same way and 3 R&R only fast
---Support training: Robert's excercises and a few more that I've been doing since I took classical lessons, more focused to feeling the awearness of the support process ( really easy ones, but gives awesome results)
    ---Onsets
Well there is a lot here in the book. I have to get more compression, and I tend to sing with a lot of dark overtones amplified. And an excess of these does not sound well for me.
What do I do? The following: Q&R since F3 to F3 (Sometimes G4 or A4, if I can do them without push, pain or constrictions) and I repeat 2 times that onset in every note, except for Db4 to E4, when I repeat 4 times the onset. I do this because my bridge is around those notes. And Robert says we have to practice those notes harder because those are the difficult ones (and I is so true!). Then I follow with a few attemps of A&R. If it is too hard for me, I don't do it. I listen to my body.
After that, I do edging onsets in the same range, maybe 2 times per note. Sometimes 3.
    ---Sirens
Well, not too much to say here. I do melodic 5th as Robert show us. Two times, at least, focusing on Q&R onset and some of T&R. I don't go too high, at least not for now.

I hope my way to train this can inspire you to think and organize your practice schedule if you're not doing it now.

For the most advanced TVS people... how do you practice the FBR? Do you think I'm doing it right?

    Rock-on!

Hey Rodrigo, I just saw this come in...
I really admire that you are building your own routines... that is a big part of the most recent version of "4Pillars", is to teach students how to take the method and ideas and build your own routines... I remind you:
Look at the training routines in the back of the book for each of the Onsets. Look at the Resonant vowel modification formulas x/y intercept graphs in the back of the book, for your sirens. REALLY Understand what the Acoustic Modes are... it is critical that you know the vowels; how they resonate, their sound colors and if they are open or narrow! Work with the training tables in the back of the book that are there for all 60 workouts. Notice that after the "Onsets & Octave Sirens" routine in the back of the book, there is a supplemental, "Quick Start" routine... this is critical that you see this...  Use the guide files for each workout so you can quickly learn how it starts and stops. Be sure to watch all the "Robert demonstrations" of each workout as well. ... but my short answer is... SEE THE "QUICK START" ROUTINE... that is immediately after the Onsets & Sirens table...
Also, send me an email, Ill give you the update to the ebook... its all done now... designed and pretty... all 616 pages of it...
Lastly, in the coming weeks... MORE great stuff!!!  The training routines will become even more and more clear... I'm working on the final push of "Pillars" right now that is going to blow people's minds... truly, it will be unlike anything anyone has seen before.

UPDATE: Please check the current month's challenge topics for the most current information and dates pertaining to challenge start and end dates. The dates in this topic that pertain to selection of the next month's genres and songs still do stand.
For example, we will begin voting for the next months challenges on the 25th.
Then song suggestion starts on the 29th.
Then challenge song voting will start on the 2nd.
However, for the date that the next month's challenges will start, please check the current challenge topics.

    Hey all,
This thread will contain all the rules and guidelines that make up the structure of the monthly challenges that we will be doing. There will be a new topic every month for each actual challenge, so it's important to have a topic where everything regarding how it will work is posted. This way, anybody interested in taking part in this can simply come in here and read how things will work, then go into the latest monthly challenge topic to discuss everything about that particular challenge.
What is the monthly challenge? What is the point of it all? What will I get out of it?
A few weeks ago, I proposed a monthly challenge. Each month, we will vote on a different genre to approach, then select a song from the genre. For the duration of the challenge, everybody involved in the challenge will attempt to sing that song. It's important to note that this is NOT a contest where someone will lose. The point of this challenge is for everyone to gain something from approaching things they would not normally attempt. For example, I identify as more of an R&B guy. The current challenge for May is Highway Star by Deep Purple. I have an appreciation for Rock, but I rarely sing it. This month, I'm going to sing that song and I'm going to post it. And this next part is also noteworthy. You do NOT have to sing it the way the original artist does and use the same vocal effects (rasp, twang, etc.). You can also choose to take the song and arrange it so you're at home with the way you're singing it. For example, I could attempt to take Highway Star and sing it with an R&B vibe as well. At the moment, I actually don't know how I would do that, lol, but that's exactly why it's a challenge. So, I have to decide whether I'm going to approach it and try to attain that Rock sound or re-arrange it R&B style.
The whole point of this is that, if you can approach a song that you wouldn't normally sing, and then sing it in that style or re-arrange it so that you can sing it in a way that's natural for you, you can truly sing anything. And, once you are left to your own devices and you are faced with a challenge that's completely out of your element, that's when your inner artist is really going to come out.
Even if you're at home with the current genre that's being chosen, and the song that's chosen happens to be relatively easy for you, it is greatly encouraged that you participate so that you can help others with the stylistic aspect of the challenge.
In addition to approaching new things musically, many of us will be undertaking the task of learning our way around audio production software. Some of the programs that people are learning while undertaking the challenge are Cubase, Reaper and Logic Pro X. Production is an extremely valuable skill to learn, especially if you are considering pursuing music as a career. This skill will allow you to create your own demos to send out and get singing gigs and you may even end up producing your own album.
    Summary
So, to sum up. We vote for a genre, select a song, and everybody spends about a month attempting to sing that song while either maintaining the style of the genre or trying or re-arranging it so that you can sing it in a way that is natural for you. You may post as many versions of you singing the song as you desire, as long as you make it clear when your final version is posted. Rough drafts are greatly encouraged. All versions should be posted in the current monthly challenge topic. We will all discuss our difficulties and accomplishments regarding style and production for the current monthly challenge inside of the current monthly challenge topic. At the end,  there may be some anonymous voting to decide which version is liked the best, but it's important to note this is not a challenge between us. This is a challenge against yourself. Everybody has something to gain from getting involved here.
    Genres:

    R&B

    Country

    Blues

    Rock

    Pop

    Folk

    Jazz

    Gospel

    Important Dates
Let's open voting on the 25th of the month from now on. This will be for genre selection. We'll be doing two genres again. Voting will be open for 4 days.
Voting will open for song selection on the 29th. It will be open for 3 days. This won't be a poll. Everybody can suggest two songs for each genre, just like before.

Voting for the challenge songs will open on the 2nd, and it will run for 4 days.

The challenge will begin on the 6th.
By the end of the 6th of the following month, all final recordings should be in. I'm going by Pacific Standard Time, so if you live somewhere else where time is somewhat behind, just send me a message so I know. Anonymous voting will then go on for about 3 days (69 hours).
By the end of the 5th of the following month, whoever received the most votes will be clear.
This month's contest will officially end on the 6th of the following month, meaning everything to do with it will be done by that time.

Where do I get the necessary bed tracks to sing over?
When dealing with producing your own track, you need an instrumental version of the song so that you can sing over it. Also, we want to remain on the right side of copyright protection. Please no sharing of bed track / karaoke files. To purchase your own file, is only $1-$2, so please honor the original creator's (the bed track / karaoke company), property rights.
In order to make things easier for participants, here's one place where many tracks can be found

If anybody has any suggestions about any of this, go ahead and speak your mind. I may be managing this topic, but this is about the way everyone wants to do this. I'm just putting things into motion.

Folks... I don't think this is a competition. If its a competition, it won't succeed. People won't "compete"... this is not about competing... it about learning and getting a review on your singing, ... but at the same time, comparing your version to others, learning from others how they got through it, learning how to make home recordings and to "challenge" yourself, not each other...

    Hello Annie!
I apologize I have not been able to respond more quickly, I have a million things going on and flying at me from every direction. Thanks for posting your video here and sharing your story with us, thats just great.
Pillars is indeed a very comprehensive training system and always growing and getting better and better... but you don't have to feel daunted by that. View 4Pillars as a reference manual for all things that you want to understand about the singing voice and how to train. In an effort help clients like yourself get focused and to the point, be sure to follow these steps... which are also pointed out in the "Getting Started" video.
    1). Read the new book.
    2). Watch all the lectures.
3). Begin training "The Foundation Building Routine"... understand and know all four modules in that set of routines.  In particular, make sure you understand:
All the onsets, what they do, how to use them and execute them correctly and cleanly.
The acoustic modes and how singing vowels change the physiology of the voice, can be used to trouble-shoot problems and how they resonate in different positions of the body... and their artistic sound color attributes.Learn how to then apply vowel modifications to your lyrics and songs. Do not neglect the narrowed vowels either... see the vowel modification formula in the back of the book... you should start with the "Resonate" vowel formulas and then work into the "Resistant" vowel formulas that help you to learn how to sing and resonate narrowed vowels... very important for articulation and more strengthening. We get stronger when we learn to sing narrowed vowels better.
Train with the work flows to keep things efficient and clear and not be sloppy. Precision and accuracy is very important, especially on the Specialized Onsets.
Practice at least 4+ hours a week to really get lasting results and get stronger.
Take private skype lessons with me if you can... it will make a HUGE difference!
There are some really knowledgable TVS/4Pillars students on this forum so if you continue to post your progress and questions here, you can get more help from a student perspective. I do my best, but Im really out working to make things even better for all of you... don't be shy to reach out to other TVS students here.
Welcome to TVS and The TMV World Forum!

It tells about how sometimes we have to leave our fears behind in order to get forward. Hum, maybe not a very original topic  However, here it is. Hope you like it! Love!

Adolph Namlik reacted to Annie in New to The Four Pillars of Singing!- Hi!
Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself.
I'm Annie. I recently bought The Four Pillars after sifting through Youtube singing videos for about a month.

I'm in a folk duo (psychedelic/prog folk)  in the San Francisco bay area.  I have only taken lessons here and there through the years and basically have no vocal technique knowledge. I feel that my vocals are ok but not exciting. I have always thought of myself more as a songwriter than singer, so haven't given as much thought to my vocals as I should have.

I want to improve, get stronger, more creative and to sound exciting and more expressive. I was inspired by what I saw/heard of Robert on Youtube.

I'm finding The Four Pillars really interesting and full of ideas and things that I've never heard of before. It's a little daunting but I'm up for the challenge.

Here's a video created several months ago of me singing Neil Young's Mr. Soul with my duo just to share where I'm at now vocally.

He knocked the Mnt Dew out of my hand. The look I gave must have really scared him because he immediately apologized and bought me another dew and was quiet for the rest of the evening. Hey 8tor,
Good voice but those higher notes need more work. Basically you are trying to bring your speech vowels up into the higher range which simply doesn't work very well. I hear a lot of splatty "ah" vowels and your ee's and oo's are very tight. A good teacher could help you clean that up. Or you could listen to recordings of good singers and copy their vowels.

My first consideration in covering a song is finding the connection in my own life. Unfortunately I was never into fast cars and do not get the thrill off driving fast or feeling superior because I can drive 120 miles an hour on a highway that has a limit of 55. I can however find a connection to Sammy Hagar's " I can't drive 55" but that is because I am afraid my car will fall apart if I go any faster than 50.(If you ride in the thing you will understand)
Although if Someone tries to take my "Dew" well that is a different story...."I LOVE IT", "I NEED IT", "I BLEED IT".......Looks like I am in. I just found my connection.
