Take it opposite. Try to sing a'la Lambert when he sings lighter stuff. Don't imitate his full voice for a while. I am wondering if you could deal with sth like that Smooth it. Be smart next time, not power, not strength, not stamina etc... but resonance should be your best friend atm.

Just like opaa said. Many singers produce "styl-ish" strained sound. Sting (the Police times) is one of them.
