  1.   I had a Literal Deja-Vu experience ............... Like you have been here before but know you have not. Hearing the same background noises and seeing the same junk sitting on your table. I view these experiences as a confirmation that I am on my destined path regardless of how bad or good my situation is. Kind of like a mile marker of a life path. Either that or my Meds did not wear off yet.:24:

I never had any problem singing high notes when mimicking Axle. I have problems when trying to sound consistent with my lower notes or sounding "Full and modal" in the upper range. It is like the sound of Johnny Cash to F4 and Axle singing from F#4 to E5.(not exactly, but it is good for an example)

  2. I got a weird sense of Deja-Vu when I clicked on that link......... I am not sure what I wrote in the last timeline but this  time there was some pitchiness around the 3 minute mark. Did you see the video Felipe made about the "Ultimate tip to high voice"?

I cannot remember the exact name of it. Look through the threads in Vocal technique section. He says something about breathing through the nose and a dopey "Hong" kind of sound............Really look up the thread, I suck at explaining things. Anyway, Axle is a perfect example of what Felipe was talking about AND Witches Cackle sound. Be cartoony and "IN the Nose". I think you are allowing a little too much of your natural full voice into this instead of allowing the Honk and Twang take you up the scale.

This is one instance that you want to copy the sound of the original singer.........  At least to help you strengthen the upper notes enough to bring a fuller sound into it later.

also depends on the sub-species. Small mouth bass, large mouth bass, striper (a kind of small mouth bass about the size of a southern Perch and found along with large Crappie (acutal name of the fish and pronounced cr-ah-pee by locals) at Lake Fork, home of the largest Crappie caught (4 lbs)).

    :bang:

People tell me I have a Crappie voice. All this time I thought that it was a bad thing. Thanks Ronws. Just my technique of singing with Fish Lips.

  4.    I did not mention this on the other songs but we as an audience really need to hear the words in the song. You have a lovely tone and good pitch but the words are muffled or garbled. It is not because of an accent and not because of the microphone. Maybe you are singing in such a way that the consonants are too quiet. While it is true that we should sing on the vowels the consonants still need to be articulated.

  5.    Hi Emme, Welcome to the forum. You have a real nice tone. one suggestion I would have is to learn the words like a story. Singing is like acting with your voice. It is not just providing words and a melody, it is expressing an emotional plus musical idea. Timing and pitch improve when you do not have to read the words.

If you were not reading the words then you are focussing too much on the camera and letting that distract you.

You have a very good sound and lots of potential.

  6.    I am pretty much wondering if it is a song I should pursue or drop. I recorded this at night and did not go all out on the volume as the song calls for. That may help with keeping the timbre a little closer between The verses and choruses. When singing this for fun I usually go for the over modified vowels like the original singer "Oh, How Ah L-ah-ve Y-oh- " but on this I kept it closer to my own speach.

I had not considered putting this in my song/set list before but if it is worthy I will put more effort into it.

    WOW. I had no idea.

Going to leave one more day to suggest, and then it looks like I'll be putting up the poll.

My second suggestion is Frank Sinatra.

You have not heard a BeeGees Song? Except for the fact that they were railroaded because of the Disco fiasco they were brilliant song writers and singers. After the death of Disco and the BeeGees boycot they had Number one hits as writers and producers in pretty much all genres except for Classical. They had hits in Country, RnB, Pop and Rock. The only writers and producers to have #1 albums in Country, RnB, Pop and Rock at the same time. Although different singers singing the songs it was BeeGees we were listening to.

"Islands in the Streem" performed by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rodgers was a BeeGees Song.  I am not sure what the other songs were at this point but that was the beauty of it. We were still listening to BeeGees even after the Beegees themselves were blackballed from the Radio stations because of the Disco thing.

Just click on youtube and treat yourself to some BeeGees. You will not be disappointed.

I already posted one BeeGees Song a little while back but I have one or two in mind for this challenge.

  8.    Any teacher who tells you that you have a crap voice and does NOT give instructions to make it better is a bad teacher. Period.

I trust the assessment of Jens and Felipe. They have no problems with telling someone that they sound bad. First hand experience. And they were correct.

I did not hear you sing because of the download issue but any voice can improve. Confidence is the main sticking point for most people. Because of the lack of confidence they sing too low of a volume or do not give enough energy to the voice for it to work as it should.

If your teacher is helping you and you can see progress(if this is the same teacher who said you have a crap voice) perhaps she was giving tough love and kicking you into working harder. Sometimes that approach works and sometimes not.

As Jens said, even the best of singers are disliked by someone. I cannot listen to Celine Dion and I have been told she is fabulous. I just can't handle her for some reason.

Thank you. I don't consider myself an artist, in the least, but I believe in artistry. You should insert some of yourself in each song.

Who's this Dio guy? He's mentioned in like 75% of the threads.

I only knew of him from 1960s American Bandstand where he was one of the original Teen Idols singing love songs.

Eventually he sang for Black Sabbath. He went on to become the Ultimate Metal Rock God.

  10.      Awesom post Robert.

Ellise, when you record through a recording device you get the opportunity to change little things that you may not be happy with. Maybe the whole song went perfect except for one little flub or falter, you can then go back and "Fix" just that one section.

Working on songs this way really help you to "Hone in" on things like Tone, Vibrato and Dynamics. It also allows you to have Backing music to sing too that will help lead you into some more expressive feelings and guide your singing.

Robert is correct with a little boost from Video and audio editing your over all presentation will improve tremendously.

  11.      I have a general observation Gsoul, I have noticed that most of your singing is either between E2 and C3 or between E4 and C5 with falsetto. Do you hear your voice as being the same pitch with the songs you are singing or do you realise that you are singing an Octave lower in the Low parts of a song? Nothing wrong with singing an octave lower. It sounds pretty cool with your voice and you handle it well.

On some songs you may want to change the key a little to see how your voice responds between C3 and D4.

I have no clue where ya'll are hearing ANY Danny Joe Brown in this track lol.

Generally the song should have had some lead guitar but I wanted to put it online that night. If anything I might have taken the last couple choruses and sang only the first line of the chorus and then answered with a guitar lick. "And in the morning light"-----guitar lick etc

"And when the Morning Comes" There is this growl thing in there. Maybe a product of the doubling but each first line of the chorus it is there. Mainly heard on "MORNING"
