  1. Each vid you make you get a little bit better! This one is really quite good. But I feel your pain. Bad backing tracks suck. When I couldn't find one for Prometheus (symphony x) I eventually just said 'ah hell, Ill record it'. Is there a slight chorus effect on your vocals in the chorus btw?
  2. Wow totally awesome. Nice work! Nice vibrato too! Sounds really strong on those high notes!
  3. This is an avant garde-ified version of Juda Priests's "electric eye" that my dad recorded for a friend of his. I did the vocals on it.
  4. I would like to hear an example, mdew. I could let you know if it is the same. Thanks! I'm not sure if I want to upload this publicly.( It's still private on YouTube)
  5. Thanks MDEW! It would be hard to tell if it is the same without hearing it. Do you have any recordings?? With my technique the vibrato isn't automatic though. You have to pulse the diaphragm like you are laughing.
  6. Thanks! First of all, don't be embarrassed. the first run to the hills cover I did was just plain awful. I have been singing for maybe 4 years, but the first year didn't really count, since I was singing everything really nasally and in falsetto half the time. Also, I don't use mix voice, so I can't help you with it. I use a different technique that allows you to push your voice up with the diaphragm without thinning out or breaking that I like to call 'orrendo canto'. But even with this technique it did take me a while to develop the strength to pull off maiden songs. There are different muscles at work, but muscles all the same. But it's basically more about discovery; you have to experiment with your voice and figure different things out. That's where covers and imitations come into play.
  7. Thanks Gneetap Well, about the warmups... I find that they just wear me out more than they help. But they do help some people more than others! That was actually cold water.. that's why my voice was a little stiff at the very beginning haha. I will check it out if you do cover it :)
  8. Okay, Gneetap! I fixed the choruses I also did this early in the morning with no warmups or anything.. so that my voice is as fresh as can be, not worn out at all. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFKDCYLUYmE&feature=youtu.be
  9. Nice man! You have those screams down for sure. My only critique would be the phrasing at some places seems a little too late or early. But you did a great job.
  10. Well it's possible to do with a lower voice, too. Don't worry. I myself am a 'low' baritone.. Dickinson was one of the first singers I started emulating, at about age 15 or so. I speak from experience because this song was one of the first songs I covered, and I did the whole thing in falsetto pretty much. It sounded very strange, like a woman singing it lazily. Eventually I learned the technique is very, very different from that, but that doesn't matter. There are people who use head voice/mix voice kind of technique and get a similar sound. From what I understand about the technique you are using, it is a process of strengthening. And that will happen over time. Just keep at it. Your cover is not bad at all.
  11. Hey not bad Though to get the Dickinson sound you want to make sure you stay away from the quacky sound. Think more belty But you are getting the whole 'head/mix' technique down, which is great! People say that it's a process of strengthening the voice, and head voice etc. so stick with it! If I get the time, I might record a video cover of this one too, you reminded me of how fun these tunes are.
  12. Haha. Yeah I do have to step away for a while. @Gneetap it's more just the inability to thin out that's getting me. It's like too thick or too thin with me. And I never learned head voice mix voice technique so there are some thing I can't do. (screechy stuff) I got pretty close with this cover, but it's still a bit more growley than screechy.
  13. Thanks Gneetapp Owen - you really think it's too cornellish? IDK I usually try to go for imitation as much as I can. But lately I haven't been benefiting from the audioslave covers. I think I need to try and imitate another singer/achieve another skill. I'm still high-note handicapped and don't know if that will change, so I'm thinking about exploring the contemporary technique a bit and learning to use 'head voice' 'mix voice' etc. Though from what I've heard, it's a bit of a 'strengthening' process.
  14. I already recorded it! Though idk if I am happy with it.
  15. Thanks guys! I think I'm going to redo it today, in a more pro way. Better video footage and better takes. I don't think there are issues with the technique. I didn't lose my voice or feel discomfort or anything. Next time I'll try to do the verses a bit more cornelly perhaps, and jump around a bit more. I might also do 'like a stone'
  16. Here's a video (I recorded a practice session today and shook around like an idiot)... The editing is very half assed. I chopped out a lot of bits where there was noise, left some, compressed the hell out of it etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3D_k9CZYO-o&feature=youtu.be Now embedded. Thanks Ron!
  17. I don't think you are a bass baritone but you did well in that range. Hard to tell from this clip but I would shoot more for baritone. Are you speaking really softly? Usually baritones also have more weight but with a very trebley webcam mic I doubt it would be picked up!
  18. I agree it's a bit too nasally on the verses and I would add that some of it is pitchy, just slightly flat. But other than that, it seems like a very decent cover! Would like to hear more/another attempt, too
