  1. Haha that is cool! Well Van and I are putting a lot of work into the art as well, so I can only hope that it makes it more valuable in the long run. Plus I think we're planning on adding an exclusive kickstarter bonus-track as well.
  2. Thanks a bunch Ron!! I made a note on our log to sign your CD, as requested!! ;)
  3. Try this link for the kickstarter> http://kck.st/1n3nMsO We are running our kickstarter and have about twenty days left to hit our goal! We need fans to pre-order the album and all of the funds go towards creating it. Basically the fans are the record label. It is the most effective way for us to release an album with a direct connection between us and the fanbase. If you are a fan of my singing or my band, please check out the link and the songs on the page. I don't think you will be disappointed!
  4. Someone doesn't need to guide you.. imitations are the result of experimentation and a good ear
  5. MDEW I actually didn't think it was as bad as Felipe implied. But there is a lot of room for improvement, and I personally like to over-simplify things when it comes to this type of stuff. I would say that everyone has something inside of them to let out a sound that is, at the very least, sincere.. whether trained or not is something to be addressed later. But that sincerity is an essential starting point in my opinion, or you end up worrying about technique and holding back what matters most. Consider an untrained vocalist belting out a melody with sincere emotion. There is not a way to deny it even with a few mistakes.. But consider a mildly experienced vocalist singing with emotional restraint worrying only of his technique.. It wouldn't impress anyone sitting around the campfire. In fact, many a great vocalist have learned by throwing themselves out there, with no knowledge to go off of what-so-ever. So my advice to you would be to put emotion and expression first. Worry only about what sounds good, and what feels right. And when all else fails, if you are making terrible noises, you will still have a fundamental idea being expressed. :)
  6. I like the video! I also like distracting and ridiculous green screens Nice cover man, but one critique would be to get that 'powah' Dio has on the original.. You gotta really put yourself into it, throw yourself at the listener, no reserve! ;)
  7. Hey Colin You gotta pay closer attention to Plant's tonality on the original, and make sure you are expressing everything with the same emotion, too.
  8. @MarceloG_uy: thanks!! @AmirMaor: what do you mean?
  9. ;) You have to take a look at it though. Lots of cool stuff. And it took me a long time to draw that T-shirt art! (not to mention record vocals on the rough draft of the album)
  10. Well we're not exactly producing ourselves, that's what Neil Kernon is doing Try again later.
  11. I've been a member on here for quite a while. I know a lot of friends might take the opportunity to help me out! This is GSO's (my band) debut! Check it out. There's a clip of a new song in there with vocals too. I worked hard on the video and t-shirt art so I hope you enjoy it! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1368844482/ghost-ship-octavius-debut-album
  12. That's cool! Yea I got through the instruments and realized that I didn't play the guitar part correctly when tracking. But at the time I became really busy with my band stuff so I just forgot about doing it.
  13. @Felipe: I agree it sounds quite different.... not a completely different song though but I am glad you liked it! @ronws: many thanks. appreciate it :)
  14. Here is what you do: 1.find singers you like 2.imitate them 3.experiment with your voice 4.don't let vocal terminology get to your head (it's poisonous)
  15. My dad wanted to know what it would sound like covering a Dio song with my natural range. So I transposed it down and tried to do something that a tenor might not be able to And Dio sings in such a way that it's almost impossible to imitate the sound and resonance he gets in his tenor range. And people always complain when I do imitations that I'm just imitating and don't do anything different, so this was an opportunity to.
  16. Are you sure? I mean, it is the original DIO studio tracks, minus the vocals, which are done by me of course.
  17. https://app.box.com/s/2j9e82231z0zkaojfbhp Utilizing what is more of my natural range. Let me know what you think. I googled it and looked at how many steps it takes to transpose tenor to bass clef and transposed down the original studio tracks, then recorded the vocals.
  18. If I'm ever in the mood, I will give it a shot. Right before I got banned from the forum I was working on a 'children of the sun' cover too :o
  19. Not exactly. There is a bit misconception of the internet when it comes to imitations. Through experience I have learned to focus not on embellishing covers with things not found in the original, but to focus entirely, mentally, and physically on imitating that specific sound. It is produced a certain way, and the only reason to do a cover (unless performing it) is to learn how it is done. On the radio in the U.S. country music has a very large audience, and is one of the most popular genres.
  20. Wrong. Humans learn through imitation. New skills are acquired through that method. Russell Allen mentioned on video how he tried to imitate when he was learning.Any skill learned that way can be applied to anything else. Also wrong. Country is a huge music industry. I suspect, however, that most people who listen to country aren't worried about singing in the same way people who listen to other styles, more centered on the voice, are.
  21. @ronws: Thanks man! You know I was thinking about doing cemetery gates recently but don't have the patience to memorize it Though I think it'd be pretty easy to cover at this point. @Felipe: Glad you liked it! At first it sounded good to me but the more I listen the worse it sounds (musician's curse). The High notes required me to learn a different kind of distortion... So I'm still a bit untrained with it. Next cover I hope to pull it off just a bit better. I mean, who has better high notes than Cornell? Especially for a baritone. @Herman: Thanks the vocals were mixed in a weird way in this case, and I listened w/headphones not monitors.. So they probably are too quiet.
  22. Thanks man! I'm glad you liked rwrrwrrrw. I have liked the songs of yours I have thus far heard. If you want to hear some of my singing check out the 'my band' thread here (we're going to release an album soon). But don't be deceived, as I am a bass-baritone in voice type.
