Just stay with the whiny brat all the way through. Although, I think for humor's sake, you could ape Rick Allen, the drummer and his intro on another DL hit. It is him with the fake german accent saying "unter glieben glauben globen." And by the way, that phrase doesn't mean anything, it was his way of counting in the beat of the song.

    Beg.
You sounded more strong and sure in the second and later repeats of chorus. I think the first one, you were trying to add meat and it was a bit shaky, like you were still looking for your line in the song. The later parts, I know you were going lighter but it worked better. And before you worry too much about how close you might achieve Joe's tonality, please remember that a really huge part of his sound, especially on this album, was the mixing and recording acumen of engineers like Robert "Mutt" Lange and Bob Rock and other engineers influenced by the lush sound they produced.  Lead vocals were often double and triple tracked the old fashioned way. Reverbs and chorus rack units. It made his voice sound bigger than it is. Wet and splashy drums, fuzzy bass, chorused guitar, even in a band that had two guitars.
Then some more on the BV from the other band members, like Phil and Steve, who could also sing.
This song is a test of a singer's mettle in going in and around the passagio because that is where the chorus is. It's almost as if the high "screams" are easier to do because they are just noises, rather than articulated lyrics. So, bravo for having the huevos to try this song.
I agree, this song suits your voice and vice versa. I think you will find it easier if you pick a mode for your voice and use it all the way through.

Thanks Gneetapp. That was what I meant about the song being a bit strange lol. Most of my other straight rock material stays very focused and flowing. This one was just strange and at the same time I liked it enough to just want to finish it lol. I write a lot of Fates Warning type prog music as well but still try to keep things transitioning smooth as much as I can. Thanks again for the feedback.

No I took choir all four years of highschool though.  And made it into chamber choir lol my voice was terrible back then though,  I just know from experience what your voice starts off sounding like when you first start recording is not the same as what it will be with practice and plenty of changes.

Yeah it was a bit whack, I was disappointed that they couldn't get the vocals right in the backing xD.  Next time I'm just going to play the music on the acoustic myself and have you record the backing vocals for me!

just in the first 30 seconds of this there are 4 or 5 different ways to say "I"
    "eye" am the teacher
you were lost but "ah" (or "uh") found you
"hive learned a few things" (not "eye've" learned)...as "ive" travelled thru the years (not "eye've""

Haha, at the moment I sorta feel like the man behind the curtain at the end of Wizard of Oz because there is a lot of editing I did to make this sound somewhat decent.
It's not a true blue straight vocal because rather than just singing through the song one track as I usually do I spliced the track and overdubbed all of the harder sections such as "Oowee baby I sure show you good time", "SOME PEOPLE call me Maurice.", and "Well don't you worry baby don't worry" post production
Also the backing vocal for the chorus is not me, it came with the particular karaoke track I downloaded which I will link for you guys here so you can see what I was working with: http://picosong.com/tgJt/
So yeah, there was some trickery involved but at least I come clean with details.
    Thanks for listening guys.
*also ronws it would seem that our brisket party set-list is growing all the time hahaha..

Hi Simon, I haven't been on site for awhile as I have been very busy musically and otherwise lol. I agree with Roberts opinion. There are several areas you need to develop to keep your voice strong and connected and Roberts course will get you there. I do just want to mention this tho.....I don't believe it was horrible and I think the lesson to learn is what you probably are feeling is that you know you are not singing as proficiently as Rob Halford is and you know you need to improve. Most people even professionals sometimes will admit to me that they HATE the sound of their own voice coming back out of the speaker just as many people can hate to hear their own voice on an Voicemail message etc. I was guilty of pre-excusing my voice before playing people recordings of myself to blunt the attack I guess lol. If I mention it is horrible to begin with then nobody will probably add that to their critique haha. I still don't always love to hear my own voice and constantly try to improve but I have learned to know when I am in key and singing properly and whether that is tone that others like or not isn't my concern. As a singer you have to make the leap and not ask for permission to sing to an audience and offer disclaimers ahead of time. Embrace your voice and learn how to use it and develop the confidence in your instrument to entertain people and make music that YOU enjoy. Once you do this and have fun the audience will come along with you even if you don't love your voice always remember that John Lennon hated the sound of his voice and was constantly looking for ways to process it so he could tolerate it. I feel your pain brother, one of the best compliments a friend gave me on an early recording was that "it sounds great, it doesn't even sound like you" lol. Not that I was trying to sound like anyone else but rather that he also understood my insecurity at that time with my voice. Train with Robert and the rest will fall into place. If you want to sing like Halford etc you are at the right place.

I still don't know where I'm going to use the falsetto, but I think it's necessary here. To convey the sensitivity. And I need to think about doing other things, and how I'm going to do those things.

Getting used to singing this song. Decided to upload a first short take. Don't have the backing track just yet, so acapella.

Don't get worked up about it now. You paid and you're trying to get the help you paid for, so lets focus on that.
I listened to the recording in the quote above and the pitch is the biggest issue there, and it is an issue throughout. No worries though, because that can be fixed. Take Killer's advice up top and start looking into ear training exercises.

First off, you can can the condescending attitude of meeting our demands. We really are trying to help. And if you read the information given to you at both your signing into the forum and repeated in this thread, it does not say, use any old thing that eventually gets you to a streaming link. It says to post a link that streams. And if that is going to be a problem for you, then it will be a problem for anyone trying to help you. And for some of us, your link was simply not working, period, paragraph, end of book, forever, amen. Browbeating us about it won't actually win you any points of credibility, either. Chill, go with the flow.
This a slightly better recording. You are still coming in too hot on the mic, but at least it is only on the louder notes and not all the way through. And yes, I give myself permission to comment on that because I have been king of the crappy recordings. Ask anyone who has been around here for a while.
And you are still off pitch. I would suggest that you really listen to your recording, the one you shared here. I can't point to a particular point in the song because it is the entire song. So, just pick a spot or phrase in the song and really listen. The reason is I am wondering if you are not capable of making a note that matches pitch and if it is a hearing problem.

You said it sounded horrible. So, why should we want to listen to something horrible?
And yeah, the whole stubborn-and-not-paying-attention-to-what-we-say thing, that's not going to work for you as well as you might hope.

I was just replying to what you said below in bold.

If you meant something else, that just wasn't clear to me.

Can I ask what you mean by it being a more broad musical community?

If it's about commenting on your singing, we simply cannot do that. Review My Singing is a paid service. There are lots of people here who have studied the art of singing for years, including a number of performers and singing teachers, so you would be getting expert advice. I actually highly recommend that you purchase it, because, as I mentioned before, you are serious about singing.

I agree with G. And the paid part of review my singing is known from the front, as well as the request and wish by the owner, creator of this forum to have some kind of avatar of color, with exactly every new member not doing it, making me think that needs to be more emboldened.
We concentrate on singing, here, but in all the styles you could imagine. So, is the crack about that to imply that we are not a musical community or broad enough because we have reminded you of the cost? And before you reply again with "that's not what I said," be aware that we not only can re-read, we can also read between the lines.
Now, go ahead and call me salty. To quote Robert DeNiro, "are you talking to me?"

You need to re-read and absorb Robert's reply. If you think it is horrible, why should we bother listening to it? Are you waiting for "OMG, you are the best singer ever and quit criticizing yourself"?
That's going to be a long wait, so you might order a pizza.
Instead, work on the song, make it the best that you can. One of my pet peeves is when people want to give all these conditions and disclaimers up front. Forget all that. I don't want to read about that. I want to hear you singing as best as you can. And that is what Robert is asking for.
Might you still have some things that need work? Maybe, and those comments will happen.
I have been guilty of recording songs I liked that don't really sound right in my voice, especially in the original arrangement. So, I have been where you are. Instead, I really examine my recordings and I have a few I have worked on that I have not shared because I know it's not sounding right. I might play with them some more. Maybe not. So, my work ethic is also improving and it also explains why I have not posted anything in a while. I am becoming more choosy and there may be few here thinking "Hallelujah, about stinking time."
So, re-think what you are doing.

Please provide a version of the song that you feel sounds great, or is your best effort, or has elements that you feel are good. If you feel it is "horrible" and you know it, then there is no need to take time listening and reviewing it.
Put your best foot forward always, especially in here when asking for reviews.

Hi Cody, welcome to the forum. I think you sound good overall. In the beginning, you sounded too heady and nasal for my taste (personal opinion), but when you start singing with more "pressure" it gets so much better. If I may humbly suggest you to check the gain levels on your microphone because the sound was distorting a bit when you started to get loud. I also missed some tasty effects on your voice, such as EQ, compression and reverb. Good job. Cheers
