You do realize, G, new mod buys everyone lunch... right?
    jk.
I think you are a natural for this, having arisen out of  your ideas and you seem well-suited to gathering information and opinions on this.

Ok guys... this is a great idea. Thanks GSoul for coming around to the obvious... I seems this is where this whole "Challenge" idea is destined to go and the reasons why this is valuable to the community and each of us is so numerous, we can't even list it. So, yes... I think this is a "real deal" project that puts some real mojo into what we are doing here and ... what we SHOULD be doing here.
    Some Guidance:
Someone has to own it. Someone needs to manage this and make sure that each month, there is a new challenge, that the challenge is reasonable for most people, that they hit the timelines/deadlines, etc... and that that person moderates the challenge. I would be happy to give this person Moderator status if they do not already have it, to help you to manage the traffic.... so the first thing we need to make this a reality is someone needs to step up and own it. I just don't have the time guys... Im already buried in other things that have to get done on this site, and my own TVS product development and... trying find time to sing with the rest of you on top of all that. I can't do this, someone has to lead this initiative.
I would not try to get too narrow on genres. It like trying to define all the shades of blue... this is a slippery slope you will never get out of. Just keep the genre's fairly broad and pick a song that generally is considered to be in that genre. For example, I really don't perceive "Metal" to be different the "Rock". Isn't Metal really just a sub-form of "Rock"? If not, fine... but you get my point. We don't need "Metal" and then "Screamo" and then "Classic Metal" and then "Prog Metal"... you get my point, that will never end... keep it tight to 6 - 8 top tier genres... forget about trying to define sub-genres.
This is really an extension of the popular "Review My Singing" forum that is going on in here. It might be best if you post the challenges under "Review My Singing"... and that being the case... this is less about showing off, and probably more about getting feedback on your singing, understanding a new style, and even recording production! This will force people to make recordings... which is a whole other set of know-how and art form... which is one thing that makes this idea cool. If forces people to learn how to make home recordings. Therefore, people should also share and discuss production elements, plug-ins, preamps, microphones, DAWs, etc... to make this an even broader educational experience.
Whom ever is managing this... consider making a poll. Post a poll and anchor anchor it to the top of the forum that simply asks what genre's people want to do... that will be helpful to pick songs that everyone will participate in. Everyone has the ability to make polls on this forum.
You could conceivably make it more gamey too... by posting a poll at the end of each Challenge that allows the community to may anonymous votes on which version they liked the most. The winner could get something... I don't know what yet, but perhaps a free listing on the Directory, or warm up scale from me and Daniel... or something like that.
Have fun with this and drive all the way through... lets make this real. Its one of the best ideas I have seen in a long time. Keep me posted on what you want to do and who will manage it... have a plan. Don't just post a good idea... be prepared with a plan and manage it.
    Rob

To me this song is about freedom and the joy of it. Like it says im on top of the world and noone can touch me. I understand KillerKu likes alot of authors and singers with a more sense of emotion and depth to the lyrics, and i agree this song is kinda superficial and self obsessed but that what rock and roll is. Or was xD.
Maybe aproach it with a mindset of a winner. Grab a mic and just let it rip. Aint nobody whose better than you

True story...Back when I was in a band(early80's) This guy was giving me a hard time(arguing over nothing) being obnoxious flailing his arms around and stuff. He knocked the Mnt Dew out of my hand. The look I gave must have really scared him because he immediately apologized and bought me another dew and was quiet for the rest of the evening. I am 5'7 under 130lb people usually laugh when I give them the "Mean" look.

My first consideration in covering a song is finding the connection in my own life. Unfortunately I was never into fast cars and do not get the thrill off driving fast or feeling superior because I can drive 120 miles an hour on a highway that has a limit of 55. I can however find a connection to Sammy Hagar's " I can't drive 55" but that is because I am afraid my car will fall apart if I go any faster than 50.(If you ride in the thing you will understand)
Although if Someone tries to take my "Dew" well that is a different story...."I LOVE IT", "I NEED IT", "I BLEED IT".......Looks like I am in. I just found my connection.

Oh no no, the singing part was super fun, but the input lvl was supper high and everything was distorted, so i had to find a sweet spot (which was 9 on a 1 -100 slider xD)
Also asio gave me some grief but me and him worked things out xD

Thank you. I've been studying for some years, but my vocal range is not so extended in the highest notes. I can sing lower notes than Bublé anyway. :-)

AWESOME Aravind! You did the verses well, although there is room for improvement, but you were killing in the choruses, man! Really good! I think, as this is a "one-take" recording, you were not "in the zone"in the first 1-2 verses. But after that you were rocking! May I humbly suggest you something? Keep doing the "one-take" routine, for it is the best practice for live singing, but add a loop during the recording, so it will replay the backing track as soon as you finish singing, and you can re-sing the beginning, or the whole song again if you feel like it. This way I guarantee you will nail the beginning of the song in the same way you do the middle and end. Keep on rocking man!

I would advise removing death metal Just because a beginner can make some serious dmg trying to sing those heavy growls and distortion.

This feels very authentic to me. From phrasing to your timbre. Very Lenonish. I like it alot. Truly i do!

I dont really hear nasality so i think you got that down! Also this sounds great already, studio might polish it a bit but thats marginal!

Also that preety awesome light phonation. Truly this is something that i cant do at ALL. This song is right up there in my range but i sing it alot more powerful (which is bad). I sound more like Coverdale singing this song instead Paul Mcartney. Kudos A!

It sounds awesome Elvis! As you said yourself once in another post that You were a sort of beginner in singing, may I humbly suggest that you start working in this song with clean vocals, and then add grit as you like it? Just because if you start adding grit when you are still working on a balanced voice and muscles, you may end up using it as a crutch to sing the high notes. Please don't get me wrong, you sounded really good already man. I can't wait to hear the final version. Keep on Rocking!

I liked it Cynthia. You have a nice and soft voice. I noticed your voice was a little shaky in a couple of spots, but it could be a stylistic choice (not my personal taste). Other than that, I liked it. Are you a professional singer in Italy? Cheers

Holly Shizzz! When you started singing, I swear I rewinded the song twice and cranked up the volume to make sure it was you singing Aravind! AWESOME timbre man! I never heard this song before, and if you told me you wrote it, I would believe you! Great cover! Pitch wise I think it was pretty accurate. Beautiful rendition, man! Keep rocking!!!

Hi Aravind, when I say decrease the power on the high parts, it is just until you figure it out how to do it properly, or get the muscle memory, to sing the way you want. I agree with you, this song is all about the power, after all, "we are the champions of the world...". But the way you are currently singing it (struggling and shouting) will make this song be the only one in your set list, because it is going to kill your voice and drain your stamina. Believe me, I've been there, and singing in a rock band with poor monitoring still makes me do it. Keep rocking man!

I'm going to reply to this one since you made an updated topic. It's good that you joined a choir. That's going to give you a commitment to keep singing. What's really going to help you to sing beautifully is daily practice. As I was starting out, I was told one thing that really stuck with me. Voice majors in college are always praticing. When they wake up, they're humming. When they're in the shower, they're singing scales. When they're walking down the street, more scales. They want the best voices they can have, and so they're always practicing so that they will attain that. Now, you shouldn't be doing that much at the start. Your voice will be fatigued in less than an hour of continuous practice, and once you get that fatigued feeling, it's best to stop for the day. Also, if something hurts or feels uncomfortable, stop it immediately. Get in that mindset though. Practice with a sense of purpose. You're going to sing beautifully one day if you continue to practice.

Now, like I said, it doesn't have to be one block or practice at one point in the day (example, practicing for a half hour from 8:30 at night to 9:00 at night). It can be done throughout the day. The point is to commit to getting the practice in.

I agree with Elvis, this is much better than the previous take. More like singing and not speaking. But i got a feeling that you can do better, it´s like you are holding back your voice. Feel the song and just let it go.. don´t be so clinic and put some passion in it   hope you understand, english is not my mother language

Wow, great attitude!  Keep going... you will get better... hard work and perseverance pays off... What Steve Jobs says about being passionate about what your doing is very true. If you want this, don't give up. Just shear fortitude and will, can get you down the road.
