  1. Many thanks for your input Ron. I was thinking about that you know ;going with what suits my voice and not try to imitate each singer and just went with what comes easy. My only worry is, do these tones sound acceptable to most? It really helped telling me you like the delivery the way it is. I know there are many mistakes but my goal is to exercise my voice overall and gain from its strengthening by finally applying some of this "edge"/"ping" that I never had, as well as letting go of all the excessive vocal weight that used to choke me. Hope more will chime in ? Don't be afraid to be honest guys, even if you just want to say that it sounds "weird". Cheers, Than
  2. I'd love to be your neighbor, this sounds freaking awesome. It's just amazing dude Than
  3. I wouldn't change a thing, it sounds awesome and shows you have great control over your voice. Great job Felipe Than
  4. I took Ron's, Jonathan's and Keith's advice (all of which I agree with 100%) from my "last in line" post and tried to put it into effect.Again, there is no autotuning and voices were recorded in 1-3 takes maximum. Dio - Rainbow in the Dark : https://app.box.com/s/3hg7zyr5zri6nzkwwrwi EDIT : Same song but sung heavier : https://app.box.com/s/0dllu0utq3tlksf79ynl Queensryche - Queen of the Ryche : https://app.box.com/s/x6i4egzc28bjuiq4818s Iron Maiden - 2 Minutes to Midnight : https://app.box.com/s/eno2bm44veqqt1y1h9qi Gates of Babylon : https://app.box.com/s/f54ncf3e7f0s8a9z3ahs Rainbow in the Dark has a few 2nds all of which were done on the fly. I used to have this "covered", thick, without any edge tone that always felt like I'd never be able to sing in the passagio area but I think it is changing. I am trying to tame this new voice and I'm glad I feel no pain and that it does not ruin my clean voice (although it does take its toll as it is still the beginning). Let me know what you think, Than
  5. Thank you very much Keith, I agree with you and I am trying to work on it. I will revisit this song but I've tried to use all the advice in a new post called "3 metal songs". I need a break from this tune and will revisit it.
  6. Thanks for your comment Ron, I'd like to identify the shaky part 'cause by now I've lost perspective, do you mean up to the 1st chorus ? Cheers, Than Edit: Just wanted to add the following ; this rasp does not mess up my voice (although if I let go of the clean voice beneath it, then it can make me cough). The clean voice beneath it is really thin, it feels like I don't carry any of the "chest" weight up there but it is 100% not falsetto, I think it's head voice. And finally, I'd like to say that these were recorded all the way through, without any autotuning etc
  7. Thanks Ron, I'm sure people are busy but a kiss is still a kiss, no ? lol just kiddin' Thanks Jonathan, I feel the same about this, I'm still finding my way around this new territory. Here's a second attempt, any improvement ?
  8. Thanks very much for the reply Ron and the introduction GLad you liked the vocals, I have to admit I am not sure if I should love or hate this particular timbre so I'd be good to hear more opinions. Cheers again, Than
  9. Hey everybody, I've been playing around with this new voice and I would like to share it with you : 1st attempt 2nd attempt The intro is filled with notes I could never hit without cracking and the rest, well, I don't know what to say... it is a controlled state and it is led by that "ping" in the clean part of the voice. Anyhow, let me know what you think. Cheers, Than
  10. DJ, Thanks a lot for the clear and precise answers, I really appreciate it. Seems like you had a lot of innate talent that you had to bring to the surface - and you did so in the best possible way. Definitely looking forward to hearing more cool clips from you ! Thanos
  11. Hey DJ, Thanks for all the explanations and info. It's kinda shocking to read "2yt vids helped me" when I hear the jaw-dropping end result... I'm gonna giv'em a try, although I'm not expecting to find sth new, just sth that worked nicely for you. I have some more questions, as I'm trying to get the big picture here. Have you always been able to sing with such great pitch / how much of your voice was there before you started working on it ? Have you had any lessons and if yes with whom/did they help ? Do you have an exercise regime you stick to ? Also, if you could give us some audio examples of how you "initiate" your rasp and explain further any changes (lowering of the soft palate, higher tongue at the back, twanging etc) it'd be awesome. Thanks in advance, Thanos PS. I don't know if you like Pantera, but with that incredible voice of yours , you could nail their songs !
  12. Also, if the exercises Steven Fraser suggested to you here http://www.punbb-hosting.com/forums/themodernvocalist/viewtopic.php?id=708&p=1 have been part of your daily vocal training, can you please post examples 'cause I'd be very interested in practicing along. I know it's a lot to ask , but you just nailed Eric Adam's style man.. you gotta help us out ! Thanks in advance, Thanos
  13. Ok, this can't be. How on earth did you manage to sound like THE man ? This is awesome, I'm speechless. Now you have to explain to all of us how you managed to do that. Placement, breathing, modes, tongue placement, daily training everything. Amazing man, just amazing !! Thanos
  14. That's how you exercise ? I know a few professional singers who can't do half of that in the studio.... It sounds really awesome, your sense of pitch is just brilliant and the distortion too.. it's a true powerful tenor voice man ! I loved the fact that everything stays connected throughout your range can only imagine how well this type of voice would fit a song. Great job Jon and it's not gibberish , "oh my baby talking trash to my believe that ever shore"... it makes perfect sense lol Thanos PS. Hope you can do a Dio or Ripper cover or sth like that at some point.
  15. Hi Opaa, I like it very much, I think it sounds great and close to axl's tone. Is there any way you can explain how you did it ? Does it hurt at all ? Especially that 2nd clip where you go over the passagio and get into this strong, gritty high voice is very cool. Well done ! Thanos
  16. I listened to both and I think your version (acoustic) is the best - it totally rocks Ron. Great singing, no sign of straining , solid rock feeling, superb man ! The 1st one sounded kinda strainy, maybe it was really high, maybe it was the excitement, I don't know but it lacked the flow and ease the 2nd one has.
  17. Great vocal melodies, insane range, a killer voice ! I liked your approach very much Mike, this is the 1st BT song posted here that I like. Looking forward to hearing this track with a proper production.
  18. You're turning into a monster singer. Or you are one already, I dunno. It seems you get a "feel" for what direction to follow and what to exercise in, which indicates a very strong mind and a voice strong enough to follow. To put it in a few words you're your own doctor - and a very good one. Is there any criticism ? Well, how many people can do what you do ? So speaking about you not nailing that 03:19-03:21 would be pointless 'cause you could have corrected that in a sec if you wanted to. Great-Great singing Jon! Thanos
  19. Beautiful work. Head voice... I hate terminology but if you're referring to the hard-to-sing-range over the 1st trouble area above middle C - I think you're already there. You sing in it during the chorus - and you're good at it too. There are some off pitch areas but you've got such a beautiful tone for this type of songs, it don't really matter. As for the dios and dickinsons... you're starting with a great clean singing voice which means that once you're 100% confident about (if you aren't already) you'll be able to get there having a solid foundation. If/when you feel you've got your breathing down, all you'll have to do is start experimenting. Great singing as always ! Thanos
  20. Hey, it sounds great and there's definitely a "plant" vein there !
  21. You're certainly on the right track. In fact I hear much more weight in your voice than in axl's in the high part of the range. Would you say that's creaking ?
  22. Yeah... my hands accidentally slipped on the keyboard
  23. Just one thing : the guitar tuning & maybe the playing in certain parts is a little off.
  24. I don't know about the technical side of things, to my ears it sounds like a fine performance. You've got such a warm and convincing voice Ron, this range suits you like a glove. Keep it up buddy, Thanos
