  1. Hi MDEW, I'm with you regarding the trying a new coordination and playing guitar at the same time can be a mess. I first noticed that when I started to record on my cell phone my practice. I usually skip a beat or mess up the strumming on very easy songs (e.g. Knocking on Heaven's Door) if I'm focusing on the vocal technique. So, after finding this out, I started to pay more attention at my band practice, that I now have to play the bass for lack of bass players. So, I realized that some songs need way more practice to achieve a decent level of quality. I actually like your voice for this song, and I'm pretty sure that it is within your range, but you are probably still struggling with accessing your high range for not knowing how to "mix" or "bridge" to higher gears. I think you would benefit from Owen's tips, but I would like to suggest you something that has helped me a lot, which is singing through the straw. I don't know if you are aware of this technique, but you may easily find videos on youtube about it. The benefit is to keep a higher placement and work on bridging the registers avoiding tension. I am no teacher nor experienced vocal student, just sharing something that has helped me tremendously. Keep rocking! ;)
  2. High-note handicapped?! I seriously doubt that! Cheers!
  3. Wow ElenaHouse, what a beautiful song and even more beautiful voice! As I didn't know this song before, if you told me you wrote that I would totally believe it for it feels like it was written for your voice. And the footage was also a nice touch. Congrats! Changing the subject, when are we going to watch you on the screen on the vampire movie? Cheers!
  4. Hi DRLondon, welcome to the forum! I liked your tone, but I have to agree with Khassera, that you sound very weak and need to project the voice better. Try to get some vocal instruction and keep practicing. Good luck!
  5. WOW! Clap clap clap clap! Sooo nice guitargeorge! It already sounds like a movie soundtrack! I picture a sunset at the beach with the main character (a lovable vagabond/drifter) saying goodbye to the pretty lady who had just fallen for him...
  6. Hi MDEW, good to know I´m really getting better. I may be wrong (it wouldn´t be the 1st time) but I think the pitch problems in the low notes came from singing in a sit-down position and also from losing focus/relaxing to much. I can´t wait for some free time when I can try this song again. Regarding Knocking, I think I was pitchy on the low notes too, but got better at the higher part, and yes it felt really confortable singing as high as I never did before. I felt like I was in the zone, so much that I messed up the strumming several times. Cheers
  7. Hi AmirMaor, thank you so much for listening and the kind words. I will keep working on it. :)
  8. Hi MDEW, thanks for listening and the kind words. Sorry about the Knocking on Heaven´s Door starting to play automatically. I am very new to soundcloud and didn´t know that would happen. I liked that you think I have the ability to sing high-pitched songs, but the truth is I´ve been working hard on reaching those high notes. I posted a long time ago my first attempt to cover Iris (Goo goo dolls), and from that to this cover I am thrilled that I´ve come a long way. Regarding the accent and vowel modifications, I will definitely try to apply that to improve my singing. Not being a native English speaker will make you work a bit harder to achieve certain sounds. But as you mentioned, is my accent too hard on the ears? Thanks again, and also for listening to me practicing Knocking on Heaven´s door. :)
  9. I certainly will re-record and experiment with changes in sound color. I was just afraid to fall into bad habits, like when I started to sing this song a year ago, and I could only sing it standing up and yelling, and could not even reach the highest notes. From that to singing on a sitting position very relaxed (a bit hoarse from last night´s practice) it felt like a huge victory already. From now on it is just refining and improving, and happy singing. Thanks again.
  10. Hi David, did you just write this song? Good job! It is a feeling good type of song. I liked the melody but I found it too repetitive for my taste (IMO). On a quick listen I could not identify a chorus or a change in the dynamics. As another songwriter/guitarplayer who is working on the vocal technique, I was wondering if this is your style or if you just feel a bit limited vocally. Because it happened to me. I got a bunch of old songs (more than 10 yrs old) that are giving me a hard time to improve vocally, while I believe the new songs will be so much easier because I´m learning the techniques to sing the melodies I want. Anyways, I liked overall, just missed changes in the dynamics. Keep on rocking!
  11. Hi Adoney, thanks for listening and the pointers, but above all thanks for the encouraging words. I agree with you on the pitchyness. I think I even felt the moments when I did that, because it seemed that I lost focus and just let the song guide me. Regarding sounding nasal, as I was trying to sing with the least effort and very relaxed, trying to keep the buzz on my head, I probably over did it. But I will experiment and try to get a beefier sound when I re-record this song. Thanks again.
  12. Thanks for listening and the tip, but especially for the kind words ronws!
  13. Yeah, as I told Xamedhi, I was intentionally keeping the buzzing feeling (on the mask) throughout the song. But I think it is safe now to experiment with the sound trying to make it beefier. Thanks again for the tips.
  14. Hey Owen, thanks for your time and the kind words. I feel like I am on the right path with the technique, even without a vocal teacher now. As you could hear it, I am still working on it and is coming along nice, besides I was singing on a sitting position, which may have disturbed my control. And the final alone, I felt that it sounded weird, and I was almost sure I missed the note, but I didn't bother to listen to the original to compare. I will make sure I get that note burned in my brain so I don't get confused again. Thanks again, and I'm glad you liked it.
  15. Hey Xamedhi, first of all, thanks for listening and commenting. I think I totally get what you are saying about getting a beefier sound. But as a "semi-professional chest-puller", I was trying to sing in the most relaxed and "economical" way I could, and keeping the buzz in my head all the time. Maybe I ended up overdoing it and it sounded too thin. Hopefully I did not sound nasal. Still, I'm going to start trying to pay more attention to my palate, keeping it higher to get more resonance, and maybe even re-record this song in this mode. Thanks again for the support.
  16. So, practice, or even better, good practice makes perfect. So, this is my cover of Like a Stone as part of my vocal practice. The vocal part was recorded in one take, and I am aware that it is not perfect and polished yet, but as I am thrilled with my progress on my own, I would like to get your opinions, good or bad. Thanks
  17. Wow! Very Nice and professional touch! I really liked how you sound like Ray Charles at the end of the song. Congrats Analog!
  18. Hi MDEW, I think this song and your tone complement each other. I think it was a good idea dropping the key a whole step, so you can practice the high notes in a more comfortable range. I am pretty sure this key is in your range, even though you were not able to hit the highest notes this time. Have you tried adding the cry or twang on those spots? Also, don't push or you'll choke. Just so you know, I am no teacher, but I am making some progress using the cry and twang to reach my higher range. Good job overall, but I'll be waiting for the improved version that I'm sure you are capable of doing in a few weeks.
  19. Wow! What a voice! I really liked your tone man! When I was listening I kept picturing a dude singing, and while he was opening his mouth, several vocalists were emerging and being replaced by others constantly....(I meant it as a compliment). Cheers!
  20. Hi Greg, I've never heard this song before, so I can't compare, but I really liked the way you sound. Very nice!
  21. Many thanks for the kind words Singinglessonsonline. It makes really happy you think it is good stuff. I've been working on my vocals for about 2 years. Had 2 vocal teachers for a few months who taught me the very basics, but never did anything to make me release the weight of my voice so I could access my higher register. I've been learning and working by myself for the last year, as I could not afford lessons anymore, and realized those teachers could not teach me what I wanted to sing rock. But only very recently (2 months ago) I had this breakthru, and started to release weight and reach my higher notes on a more consistent way. I try to practice every night at my kitchen with my guitar, but sometimes I can't, and take a 2-3 nights break. I am not trying to create a sound, just afraid of using too much twang or cry, and sound too whiny. Also, I was not trying to sound like Axel Rose, which I don't, as probably I'm not using too much twang?! Well, thanks again for taking the time and the kind words, which are very encouraging to me. :D
