wikiloops is music collaboration.   Its not "backing tracks" per se....in other words its not karaoke stuff.
its all original stuff. people go and upload tracks of all sorts and then anyone can add whatever they want to any track. I think there are like 90000 tracks currently. All genres and members from like 150 countries.
I went there originally to find drum tracks to start my songs with, before I ended up getting EZ Drummer software.
 
Whats the catch? the only catch is that there are musicians there of ALL levels...so therefore the tracks are of all levels lol.
 
Its a VERY friendly and positive place....too friendly in a sense because one can post up anything and people gush all over it....but thats good for people just getting started etc

I wrote the lyrics around 9pm and I couldnt keep my eyes open and I was going to just do the vox later but I decided to "just lay down a scratch vox track"...but you know how that goes. I was dead tired so this may not be my best but I still dig it even though I was struggling a bit
 
The vibe is a little different than my songs because essentially he never changes chords lol....gives a bit more of a stoner rock feel, which I dig
 
Anyone figure out the story I am paraphrasing in the song?

okay, actually I am lying, this is just some computer generated vocals based off of a sample of my voice on an answering machine. its all fake. Even the vibrato is a vst. and i was wearing a wig

I liked it a lot, too. In fact, I have d/l'd it to my flash drive so that I can hear it in my car on the flight home. Get on the tollway, set the cruise at 80, try stay awake, most times. But this should wake me up.

Great cover and I liked how you approached. Listening in my car, I thought the vocals had a bit too much sparkle in the EQ. Then, I remembered, I adjust the eq in my radio to deal with radio and if I had left it flat for USB media, it might sound more balanced. Because, at work, where I listened to it first on some fairly decent desk top speakers, it was alright.

I liked the distortion on this.  Found it interesting that it most always started on the letter I which is a glottal attack.  You went a little soft on it after the first time around 1:59, I know those are the high notes but would've sounded great if you kept some of that compression.

Really dig this track man, dig the gritty and breathy low singing complimented by the piercing high mid range stuff. It's hard for me to pinpoint the influences in here but I could almost say this is some Electric Light Orchestra-esque stuff hahaha.  Especially that psychedelic break with the harmonies... reminds me of this: 
Great job overall man, not really in a place to give you criticism vocally as you are out singing the hell out of me here lol.  Btw: really dug the ad-libs you threw in there, sounded genuinely soulful and 70s rockish.  

I like it bro, voice relaxed, secure delivery, that's it, singing :). Very pleasant to listen and cool interpretation.

Sounds good Jeremy, I have to agree with everything Robert said.
Just use a single vocal line(unles adding harmonies of course).
The character thing he was talking about is adding prosody or rather when the lyrics are making a statement sing it like you are making a statement and when the lyrics form a question sing it like you are asking a question. Add emotional content to the singing.
In a song like this you are telling a story AND acting out the lyrics with voice. Vocal technique is only part of singing and performing.
Keep up the good work. I really like your singing. Add this one to your list. Soon you will have enough to perform two or three sets in public...........then the fun really starts.

Yeah the mix could be much better but I'm working with some lo-fi setup right now, unfortunately it's really hard to record good quality piano with my current mic as well which sucks because I'd do more piano stuff if the quality wasn't so average.  I got that effect by double tracking the voice like I did in the John Lennon cover, just two separate takes all the way through.  
And yes I believe I am a tenor in terms of timbre, but my range is so small at the moment I may as well be called baritone haha.  Thanks for listening.   It's definitely going on the set list.. and when Ron arrives, probably the backyard barbecue jam list as well.
