Awesome, as usual, Olem. Are all people in Brasil that happy or is it just you? The maniacal grin works for you. Now, this is a change. You traded in the bandanna for a golfer's cap. Are you starting to hide some gray? Don't be ashamed. Be proud, still singing like the young head-banger you are, despite the mileage of the years. Truly, for you, they are not wasted years.

So you're a Texan huh? We okies can always tell a Texan when they visit here. They'll say howdy in a friendly voice while driving on the wrong side of the road

Hehe, Ron, thanx for your kind words and for listening. Oh, no, you got me there (trying to hide some gray hair) I am not brazilian i am swedish but i have a brazilian girlfriend, though, and i speak portuguese so i guess i am a little brazilian .
Also a big thanx for you Aravindmadis! I must admit that it is playback in my video, i sing for real but i put another singing version into my video, so i guess i am cheating a little

yeah. As u said in another thread, there is a "magical" quality to singing and music in general. A lot of it simply will NOT reduce to words on paper. While many of the great singers we could name were in fact "trained", just as many if not more were not trained.

Actually, according to Douglas Adams, as he wrote "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," the answer to the question of life, the universe, and everything is -
    42.
Perhaps someone asked the wrong question and should have worried about 6 times 7.
And don't worry, Jon, others are rejecting my ideas in physics. So, it is evidently not a viable model or explanation, according to others who may be experts. I cannot be an expert because I am not a voice coach or teacher of singing.

Hi JonJon, I am no vocal pro, but I think you cracked because of to much pressure, your folds could not hold it any longer and just opened up quickly. Perhaps you need to push less and try to focus more on resonance, or you just need to keep building up strength. Cheers

Way cool. And I like the song and how you mixed it. After you get it out there, see if you can shop it to movie and tv people. Getting on a soundtrack brings some big cheese, these days.

I tried multiple times for a cover and I was bad every cover haha... although I do have this one which is kinda alright but it's a pretty unknown tune: http://picosong.com/NAQD/  Kinda cheesy early 60s Bee Gees tune rather than the crazy disco stuff everyone knows.

Definitely reminiscent of Zep with the slight haze of a funny cigarette of rolled up Zappa and Mothers of Invention. Way cool, I really like this. And I think you are achieving the Jimmy Page wall of guitars thing in this one.

I would really like to hear you do "Nights On Broadway" as it has a good soul groove to it that I think would match your voice perfect.

I don't know what DAW you are using but Robert has a link to a site where you can buy a backing track for about a dollar. And you can order it how you want it. With background vocals, without, etcetera. Usually downloads as an mp3 but you can choose other file types. Just remember that wav files are the best, data-wise but they can be huge. 10 to 15 MB for a 4 to 5 minute song. You can drag that mp3 into an open track in your DAW. Depending on interface, you should have live monitor. If you don't, you really need to get one. My first interface did not have it. So, what I would do is pan the backing track hard right and pull off my left head phone to monitor my voice acoustically (reflective surfaces are closer on my left where I am recording.)
This would allow you a better balance of music and voice. Right now, your voice is overpowering the music.
For the singing, you must absolutely realize and accept as a physical law of the universe the fact that singing is different than speaking. Right now, you are speaking this song. In the chorus, when you roll your ah forward and closer to an oh for "eyes," yes, that gives you a bit a punk accent and similar to what Billy is doing. What you need to do is think of that everywhere else. Singing is vowels and articulation. And articulation for singing is different than speaking.
So, in the mornings, wake up, put on your slippers, whatever other morning ablutions you must do and repeat this mantra, "the singing voice is a musical instrument." Because it is, just as much as a guitar, piano, drums, flute, whatever. It is a musical instrument and you are a musician if you are singing. And, in so doing, you will approach vowels more cleanly and articulate softer to the degree that allows the vowels a straight shot out. What goes up, must come down. The earth spins on its axis creating sunrise and sunset. The sky is blue, the ground is firm, water is wet, and the singing voice is a musical instrument. So, there it is, one of the physical laws of the universe.
I think this song is a good match for you and you have a naturally good tone of voice and in a few places, you sound similar to Billy. I would definitely keep this song in your list of songs that you can and should perform, either for others or for more permanent recording.

Sometimes, when I am stuck on a chord change, I literally go to the circle of fifths to pick the next chord to see if that breaks me out of a rut or provides an interval that fits what the melody had in mind.

To quote Waylon Jennings, "I don't think Hank done it this-a-way." But it would be very close, as if this were a modern recording but the same sound voice some what. I like your version better. The problem with Hank's recordings was not just tech limits it was his full on nasal sound that was okay in small doses but grew to be overbearing very quickly. Whereas, you have a pleasing voice for a southern gentleman.
So, what would have caused you to move from Ole Miss to So Cal? School? Affairs of the heart? Extradition policies?

This forum is about singing, not specifically original songwriting. In fact, a lot of people may listen but not comment because it is an original song. They have no "original" recording to which to compare and see how your singing fares against some other famous singer because your post is the original. It is what it is.
You might check out my thread on critique in this section. The biggest part is how to receive a critique and some attention to how one can give one. I would hate to see this degenerate into ad hominems. It does not matter if Collin is young or has never written a song. He can state an opinion, accurate or not. I find that your song is anything but bland and would therefore disagree with Collin. But that is just my opinion, from my own set of experiences and sense of aesthetics. So, his possible youth and lack of posting original songs doesn't necessarily disqualify him from commenting.
A member of my family taught me how to read a music staff. I taught myself how to play guitar. But I also took a music theory class in high school with a bunch of other guitar geeks as an easy course. Does that make me more qualified? Not necessarily.
Such are reactions you might get in the real world, playing this for audiences or selling it for downloads. Some are going to like it and buy it. Some will not.
And it can be problematic posting originals and receiving critique, such as in this case, where what you wrote and sang meant something to you but it doesn't mean the same to everyone.
I once posted a cover of a Led Zeppelin song that everyone liked except for one guy. And it wasn't my performance that was the problem. He stated that he never really liked Led Zeppelin music or that style of rock singing. And my thought was, "well, then, why comment at all?" It was better to let it go and later he came to me asking for advice on american pronunciation for his ESL class (he was polish.) And his singing got better and I like to think I was able to help.
Or is it that you post these as a showcase? Not exactly looking for critique. In which case, you might get less response. Many may not respond at all if they have nothing good to say. It is difficult to just showcase in a section that says "review my singing."
Just think to yourself how something can be humurous, even ironic. I did a cover of a couple of country songs and was told I was not country enough. Too precise on my pitch and articulation in one case. Giggle, snicker, oh well ...

I think Collin can say what he wishes, because it is just an opinion. I had to go through this myself, and I am older than most everyone here except for MDEW, Bob, and Adolph. I can cover a song like "Leader of the Band" and only two other people in this whole forum even know of that song, at least until we started having threads on it. And none of the young guys commented on it, it was outside of their experience. Which is okay.
Granted, Collin's comments seem more geared toward production values and state of finish. And you said it was not finished, to begin with. Kind of like you saying, "this is blue," and someone else says, "this is blue," and you say, "what do you mean it's blue?"
In the end, we don't get to control the audience, their age, what they like or don't like. It is what it is.

Nice cover, though, in some places, the video is not quite synch'd with the produced track. As for producers, you probably won't find any, here. Cool earthquake effect.
I was wondering, though, since the video and the singing are done at different times, (who actually records without a pop filter in front of the mic) could the video incorporate other visual elements? Like, standing on a hill, or in front of an old saloon, or walking along the road in a desert.
Just an idea for video production.
    Anyway, well done.
