Thanks, man I'm training a lot I actually started practicing this song because I want to see if I can audition for The Voice here in Chile haha I don't really feel prepared yet, I really think there's a lot of better singers. But you lose nothing trying

My question is... can you sing higher than a B4? If you can't then you probably, like Bob, said, are not ready to sing this song as Dio sings it.
I rephrase my question, do you have a coordination where you are in a stable, singable mix where you are comfortable to sing the song in, even if it sounds heady? And then work the song like that. You will be able to add strength to it as time passes, as you already seem to be training. And as time passes I mean whenever you feel comfortable, which can be a day, a week or a month.
I went straight ahead to the hard material after I found my mix ( which was very heady and light, and still somewhat is haha ) I went crazy trying all sorts of stuff, Rhapsody of Fire, Dream Theater, Conception, even if it didn't sound convicing. My voice was not nearly as strong as yours, so you don't need to skip the "hard material" at all Just approach it a different way, maybe.
Can you siren up from chest to a C5 on full voice? ( doesn't matter if it sounds heady or whatever. If you are familiar with CVT terms I would ask "can you go from chestvoice to C5 in curbing" ?

Certainly, pursue the song, but be realistic..This ones like carving a statue. Chip away on it each day...and do other songs less demanding as well.

It's not a song killer and if you did this live, there would be nothing but applause.

Hey all
I wanted to show you the first attempt of Eye of the Tiger I've done in a while. I want to study this song and master it, I'd really like to have it as repertoire.
Thanks in advance for any comments

Xamedhi reacted to Musikman7002 in Trying different types of cover material
I appreciate the comments Xamedhi. When I was younger I only sang heavy rock and later on I started trying songs outside of my comfort zone and I discovered a bunch of rough areas in my voice. And also after working on these type of songs I noticed my originals where starting to have a bit more of a unique style to the vocals instead of the more carbon copy versions of other singers I had been attempting. It's almost like all the different styles overlapped and created something a bit different for me to use.

Xamedhi reacted to Musikman7002 in Lights - Journey
Great observations! I will give that a shot in the future. When I tracked it I only had time for 2 takes and that was the better one lol. I really try to work on my pitch because nothing ruins a vocal like wayward pitch haha. There are singers that just are naturally really good at staying on pitch I have to work at it quite a bit and those couple lines slipped through the cracks I look forward to more of your singing Xamedhi, I have liked what you have put up on hear already.

Man! Your voice has a very similar timbre to Steve on the higher range, it sounds very smooth and creamy, while having the brightness of the twang.
The only thing I would tell you, is that on the first two phrases "lights" and "go" where a bit flat. This is probably because you did the small scoop up from a slightly "darker" vowel in lights, and you started "go" with the same setup. I think if you twanged the AH/UH of "lights" and "go" a bit more it would be easier, and you would be spot on with the pitch
On "sun" it happens the same but it is almost imperceptible, but "shines" is very good, as it is a "flatter" AH, a bit brighter.( I like to use imagery like this with my vowels haha "flat" as in the back of the throat and mouth more flat. Two dimensional... well, sorry for the rambling, haha )
Now, all that is nitpicking really, because I know you'd like to sing this material as perfect as you can. The complete performance was cool, I liked it a lot, man. Keep training and uploading stuff !

Xamedhi reacted to Musikman7002 in Trying different types of cover material
Hi, this review forum has been a little quiet so I thought I would load up a few old tunes and some newer material I am working on. I feel its kind of important to try different vocal characters and sounds outside of your comfort zone from time to time. What I am doing is I am going to load up a few different songs where I am working on different aspects of my voice. Sometimes when I try different styles and vocal textures etc. I discover different parts of my voice. Sometimes I try to really push the higher range or power etc. and sometimes I am working on a more relaxed high range material and then I go the opposite way and try to really work the very bottom of the range. What I discover is that the best part of my range is in the lower richer ends of my range but I still try to always work the higher stuff in as well.

Man, yo've progressed a lot I like how you sang this song. Also, I agree with Robert on the vowels
EDIT: Sorry for the shortness, hahah, I don't have much time now, I will give you more insight when I can :3

Xamedhi got a reaction from Robert Lunte in Advice on an original song - Prog Metal
Hey all! I've been working with my new band on this song. Our first one, haha. I've done the vocal lines and lyrics ( If someone would like the lyrics I can provide them They're in spanish )
I'm asking, though, only about the singing, not the composition itself, please. I want to avoid external influence in that regard because I really feel that if people likes it, it must be something made 100% by us, haha. Singing I accept, because I have suuuuch a long road ahead x.x
I'd like to know if you like the background high melody on the chorus part 1:48 ( It's too loud in the mix, but even though, I personally would take it out )

Xamedhi got a reaction from KillerKu in Sang a cover of Won't let you go. Have some questions
Ah, I forgot to mention... keep in mind that those excercises where the ones that helped me find the feelings I needed to mix and match muscles inside my throat. Those helped me discover my "mixed" voice. I don't train that way now, I train chest and head voice isolated, and then do sirens up and down full out throughout my range. I just found that doing those for training don't work so well on me, progress was too slow compared to other stuff.

Well, what you want to do is to keep your speaking voice active WHILE using this voice. Call it falsetto or headvoice, or M2.
What I did to find my mix ( a commonly used term for what you want to achieve ) was exercises like "buh, buh, buh" or "muh, muh, muh" on an octave, trying to keep a Patrick Star kind of voice. Or doing those scales feeling like you want to hold smoke in your lungs, or like you're stoned. This will naturally keep your larynx down
The other is the extreme, is a whiny voice, like "nya, nya, nya" or "nye" ( with an EH, sound not an EE ).. this is the opposite, and will keep your larynx up, but will encourage the activation of your "chest" muscles.
You can also try to mess around with your tongue out and your mouth open as wide as you can, downwards, not horizontally.
This mix, will be always easier and safer to achieve if you keep your diaphragm low, feeling like you are still inhaling while making a sound, and try not to expel more air than you need.
I'm not an expert in singing, at all... but these are the things that have helped me. I hope it helps you, mate.

Xamedhi got a reaction from Robert Lunte in Sang a cover of Won't let you go. Have some questions
Muscularly you can get a mix right now with the right coordination, what you need to find to "not sound so disgusting" is to train the control over your cords ( for sound) and over your resonators ( for tone ). Doing excersices, whiny or dopey, will not change the sound of your voice, it is only an excercise. So if you can get results doing whiney stuff, just do it The tone/timbre can be changed by adjusting your resonators ( your palate, mouth, the pharynx, etc)

Xamedhi reacted to Anthony in Anthony's TFPOS Progress Thread
:-) My confidence in my voice has improved greatly throughout my time at TMVW.
Video Eleven
Very brief video of me sirening right over my bridge. Even though these are meant to be resistance training onsets I hope I'm OK practising them as lightly as I am. It all falls apart as soon as I add any kind of mass.
I didn't forget those head shakes to keep me relaxed and not so "head titly"!

Yes.
Is it me, or does it feel like a lot of the experienced guys in here are on the same page? I seems like we have hit a new level of consistency and understanding about how the voice works and how to train it in here. There are less arguments and its more and more like reading from the same books and giving advise to people that are asking for it... I think this is evidence that we have all accumulated a lot of information and have a common understanding of how these things work... There isa "Best Practice" that is developing amongst the more experienced people in here...
Thanks for your help "X".
