Jeremy, Souded pretty good man. I would keep this in a list of songs to play out for a one man show. If you haven't already, MAKE that list and practice the songs often so you can just grab a guitar, keyboard or whatever and sing when the opportunity strikes.
Killer, Good to see you back. I have been wondering about you. You should also keep that in a list. It is one of the songs I was going to record for this Challenge.
I have sat down at the recorder several times over the past few months to record for this challenge and each time was struck by either Red Light syndrome or interuptions. I still plan for a recording but do not know when I will be able to. Until then I hope others will continue to post songs here. Looking forward to hearing more.
G,  You still out there? I have not seen a post from you for awhile. Do not give up on us. These challenges are still a good idea. It is getting the time that is a problem.

I tried multiple times for a cover and I was bad every cover haha... although I do have this one which is kinda alright but it's a pretty unknown tune: http://picosong.com/NAQD/  Kinda cheesy early 60s Bee Gees tune rather than the crazy disco stuff everyone knows.

Please read the pinned threads at the top of the forum. There is a certain way that things must go here.
Everyone is always welcome to propose a new challenge, but something like that would go in the thread that is titled "Discussion of the Addition of New Challenges".
We cannot come in and start challenges all willy nilly

Awesome, that gives me a full month to figure out how the hell I'm going to sing that high.

Saw this one had no replies yet, so I took a listen.
It's pretty cool. Subtle vibrato. Builds up to a little intensity at the end. The emotion is there. All I would really say is maybe just work on holding those notes at those parts where you increase the volume a bit and hold the words at the end of some of the phrases, like at 2:59 and the couple places you do that kind of thing afterwards.
What do you think still needs to be changed?

One thing I admire about you is how you're able to convey the emotion. In all of the covers I've heard so far, you sound like you mean what you are singing. I'm still working on that.
Like Gnee said, when you go up there in full voice, the intensity is there, but the pitch is off here and there. Besides the pitch in a few places, not a bad attempt. Runs were okay. Sounds like the falsetto thing might still be there. Keep hammering it.
This is a Mariah Carey song. It's good that you're challenging yourself by choosing songs that are not easy and trying things like changing up the melody. That's how you're going to get better.

So after a long long while i returned to singing and even tough i sang this last year, i wasnt really practicing in a strickt sense of that word.

I will return to forum in pursuit of more vocal improvement.

I wanted to share a small clip of some sirens up to C#5 for your reviewing. I understand this is far from perfect but this is something i havent been able to do before.

Hey Elvis, great to see you in here again...
You have a sloppy, or no onset here.
Your siren is not a siren, it is a sweep... too fast to really get the most out of this. Doing fast sweeps does not give the body enough time to feel the "fluidity" of the respiration, compression, anchoring and acoustics to modify, etc...
... for a rock, metal scream its fine... for a training or technique demonstration or to get stronger for training, it needs to clean up.
The top of the note has too much compression... too much "quack mode"... trade some fold compression for more respiration (Bernoulli).

@ronws:  sorry about that.  I thought it would stream from dropbox.  It does for me, but perhaps that because I own the box?  I don't have accounts at any of the listed sites.
Thank you all so much!  I guess I just wanted to hear from people who were unbiased.  My friends, of course, tell me I sound wonderful and fabulous (as friends are wont to do).  I know their opinion is considerably higher than the truth, but I didn't think I was that bad either.  I have worked very hard and determinedly for a very long time (I had a bad teacher to start with - my teacher now is very good).  It's difficult to ignore someone when they present as an expert, and she is rather nice to everyone else in the choir...so obviously it's just me she dislikes for some reason - I'll just try to avoid and ignore her - she sings in the alto section anyway.
The thing is, I would NEVER tell someone they suck at singing.  When people mention it to me, I just tell them I've been at it for a long time.  The guy I sit next to apologised for singing off-key, lol.  I just told him it doesn't matter because I just mentally put it in-key inside my head, which is basically true - I know what notes he's trying to sing, lol!  And I just don't tune to him - I kind of automatically tune to the backing and those in tune with that - it's no skin off my nose at all - I actually prefer to sit next to someone who is singing something different - I enjoy the harmony (even if it is off-key, lol!)  Other than that, he's a nice guy - I enjoy sitting next to him!!
Thank you again!  I'll try to ignore her, expert or not!!

As it says at the top of the page, you need to link to a streaming player or player page. Box dot com gives you the player page link.
Many people here, such as myself, as well as the owner of the forum and others don't want to have to download a file to hear it. So, please, re-post them as player pages and if you have not paid the premium, there is a premium charge to have singing reviewed here. A single song fee and a yearly fee. The yearly fee is less than the price of one lesson. It averages out to the cost of 1 beer a month.

Randomly got the idea to try to do the first cover I posted on here again. I posted it about one year ago, exactly. Wanted to see if anybody could see any improvements here and anything that needs work.
I did "Ooh Baby Baby" by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles.

    Here's the original: http://picosong.com/Edtv/

Here's me giving it another shot.
Differences between the first one I posted and this one is that I held a mic closer to my mouth, as opposed to singing into my phone's mic, which was sitting a few feet away, on the counter. Also, I sang the entire thing here.

As a personal thing, I don't try to sing the covers like the original, so I'll end up doing things like that. I do that all the time, so it's not something I think about often, but I do know when I'm not singing note-for-note.
I had done the first one this way and Jens thought it sounded cool, so I kept doing things like that. Before that, I didn't really like using the lower parts of my range.

Don't know anything about anything recorded related, so I guess I'll keep a note of this. Thank you for sharing.

All in all, this is a pretty solid attempt. In my opinion, few things could've been done better. Nice riffs throughout. I could feel the emotion.
    Here's what I found noteworthy.
1:09 The shift into falsetto in the phrase "All my feeling was gone". I think you can make this smoother. Matter of fact, I know you can.
    1:50 Very nice melisma!
2:24 Sing "gone" stronger. Sounds like you may have been having a little support dilemma there.
3:10 to 3:19 Your falsetto was getting quiet again, like we talked about before. Just noting it here, in case you didn't catch it.
3:44 The break here, while singing, "Dry my eyes," was a nice touch for the tone of the song. You're good at the use of little accents like that. Kind of like how I complimented you on the hint of rasp you used in your Christina Aguilera cover, a few weeks back. Keep this in mind, going forward.
3:47-3:48 The shift into falsetto here, at, "I had my," sounds just a little flat.
4:20 Nice transition into falsetto and nice ending. Was a little quiet here as well, but it's not as problematic. The difference between it there, and where I mentioned it at the 3:10 to 3:19 area is you don't want that happening in the middle of those smooth runs. People will miss them.

Cool Gsoul, Your tone is more solid throughout, In the original there were times the your voice kind of cut out like there was not enough air to keep things moving. This sort of thing happens to everyone when singing that low. On the new recording both the lowest lows and Highest falsetto were clear and consistent.

Gsoul82 got a reaction from Jeremy Mohler in GSoul Got 4 Pillars! (Thoughts/Progress)
    Hey all,
A few months ago, I decided to get The Four Pillars. Since then, I've looked over different areas of the program, several times .At the time, I was too busy to really get into it all, and start practicing regularly, but I've just now got things together, so I can begin doing just that.
A little background on me: I got into this singing thing a few years ago. It was something I was fascinated with for a long time, but I didn't know it was a skill that could be learned and developed. Once I found out that it was, I immediately decided that I wanted to learn.
To try to accomplish that, for a while, I took lessons, and used several programs, including CVT and Singing Success. I even had purchased Singing Success forum access for a few months.
I'm now going to express why I feel this is the best program around, if you really want to learn how to sing. This program is as thorough as a program gets. A comprehensive book, with an exhaustive assortment of video instructionals, explanations, and pre-recorded workouts. There's order, and guidance in this program. You're not completely overwhelmed by it all. You know what you're doing, when you should be doing it, and why you're doing it. The very science of it all is explained, but you aren't  overwhelmed with a flood of terms. Still not quite sure about something? Check out the video library or come to the forum, because there's actually a forum where the creator of it all is actually active, and answering questions, everyday.
This makes Singing Success look like an unfinished product. I bought access to that forum, for a while, and while it did show far more exercises, there was no order. You didn't know when to work on things, or why you were doing things. Forum was barely active. I ended up deciding to get that program. It was a 7 page ebook and a bunch of exercises in MP3 format. No direction. I used the exercises for about 3 weeks, and stopped. Looks, and sounds good, but no substance. For example, they put in examples of the whistle register being used, and no explanation of how to use it, at all. Perfect example of the entire system. Looks good, but nothing behind it. There were also examples of singing in several different styles, but no instructions or explanation regarding the dynamics necessary to sing in those styles. Should have just been called "Mirage Music" system, because it looked like something, but it wasn't.
CVT was better, but it did not go as far as this system does. There's a book, and exercises, but reading, and hearing, is not enough. Some things are hard to pick up just from reading descriptions, and hearing them done. And when you're not able to bridge that gap, there's a dead forum. There are vocal effects and techniques in this book that sound great, but are not easy to perform. This can be dangerous, because if you think you are doing what you're reading and hearing, but you are not performing the exercises and techniques properly, you can seriously damage your voice.
With The Four Pillars, you can read about the technique, hear the technique, and see the technique. Still have something you're not sure about? Go to the forum, ask, and you'll get assistance pretty quickly. Nothing is left to chance here. It's an honest, complete program. If you want to know how much confidence and honesty is behind this program, simply look at the fact that the author of the program owns this site, and there is a forum here, where you're allowed to talk about other programs. The author of the program isn't even trying to keep people from knowing there are other options besides The Four Pillars. A testament to how unparalleled this system is.
If you're serious about learning how to sing, this is the only complete system. Learning to sing is like going to the gym. You use proper form, you do the right exercises, you work hard, and you will end up with a very strong body. Something that looks great and performs extremely well. The same applies to singing. You use proper technique, do the right exercises, and workout your voice enough, you will end up with a very strong voice. A voice that sounds great, and performs extremely well. The Four Pillars is the only gym regimen you need for your voice.
And to add one more thing, some may be skeptical of whether this program is for you. For a while, I was. As some may have already guessed from my name, I'm into R&B/Soul music. There's an assumption that R&B is a genre where everybody sings softly. This isn't true. There are plenty of singers who sing with power and rasp. For example, Beyonce, Jazmine Sullivan, R. Kelly, Tyrese, and many more. I'm a guy, who's been practicing for a while, and I've got okay range (D2 - C5 in full voice and somewhere like E4 - A5 in falsetto), but a lot of where my strength is at is the lower part of my range. After a while, I managed to get my head voice to not sound like a dying cat, but still sounds like the notes are weak, up near the top of it. This program will build up my musculature so that I have strength and power up there, when I sing in that part of my range, while still working out other parts of my voice (Remember, NEVER skip leg day ). Also, for those interested in Pop or R&B, the scale exercises in this system, and several of the "run" exercises, will also train your voice so that you have the agility necessary to perform those riffs and runs.
This is truly a program that is going to help tremendously, no matter what style you sing, and it's the only program out there that is thorough and resourceful enough to reduce your margin of error by this much. And did I mention that new videos are regularly added to the library? Enough said.
