  1. Thanks Felipe. I will do that. It was not long ago that I read that in another post. I had wondered before if whistling and singing had anything in common. You were correct that my melody was more of a follow the guitar than trying to recreate Garfunckles melody. I will learn from him for now. I try to make a song my own and that does mean that I will change melody to fit my own rhythm and style. But if it doesn't work it doesn't work. :)
  2. Any suggestion for how to sing "Water". Even I hated that. Seriously I am not averse to people telling me my sound sucks or that I am to nasal or muffled or even pitchy. I am aware that my voice is often muffled and sounds flat to me. Not meaning pitch but lacking in mid frequencies or high end. In other words does not sound "Full" sounds hollow. I feel as if my sinuses are either closed off or absorbing the sound instead of resonating. I may be trying to compensate on something that is not really there to begin with. I do not know how to fix this. I want it fixed. I welcome input. Thank you.
  3. :) That didn't hurt either one of us. When you are saying nasal are you meaning Fran Dresher nasal or beginning a cold nasal. Or trying to add high end and failing? Possibly all three because I was hearing and feeling the stuffiness in my nose as I said earlier and was trying to counter that. Should I change key a little higher or stay where it is. I am singing in the key of C. Original is D or D#.
  4. Any advice. Start over, Get a day job, Tank it? :/ Or is there not enough here to comment on? Not your cup of tea? Or you like the original too much and you do not want to ruin your memory of it?
  5. As for myself I have been looking forward for you to critique my song. I already know that I have a lot of faults but I am not good enough to spot them by myself. I know where you are coming from in your post. I am a guitar player and I can tell when someones instrument is out of tune. I can tell when another guitarist is out of sinc with the drums. Before I learned how to play I could not tell weather a guitar was in tune or not. Now I am sensitive to it. I have not learned to play the voice yet like you have. I am not sensitive about when someones technique is good or bad. I can only tell when it is way above my level or way below. To the former I say good job because it is above me. If there is something obvious to me then there is something that I can point out.
  6. Honesty is expected and desired. Also what should be taken into consideration is the level of ability. If you expect me to sound on the level of Felipe or Robert or GuitarGeorge on my contributions all you can honestly say is "I do not like it. There is not enough support, too much air, no consistency" and you would be correct to do so. But you can hear from my contribution that I am not on that level far from it. I would not expect to hear "Great job" If I am being judged or reviewed from someone expecting that quality. But I do expect for someone knowing my limited ability and where I am in the process to be able to tell me if I am getting better, If the voice fits the song, Do I have enough compression..... I am not so self centered to think that If someone says "good job" on a review that I would think that I can take over Roberts job. I would only think that I am getting better. I believe that other posters are equally self aware.
  7. :) Glad I don't have to choose between the two.
  8. :/ Sound cloud says it can't find the file.
  9. :D Awesome. If anyone finds fault with that I might as well throw in the towel.
  10. I have to set up my recorder in the kitchen so its hard to find time to set it up. This seemed to be a good song to expeirement on. It's not engrained in muscle memory so I can change things as suggested. I knew about the pitchiness especially at the end of the song. I kept goofing up on the guitar and lost concentratiion on the singing. Any suggestions and slaps on the wrist welcomed. :)
  11. Thank you Tommy. I just saw your post. And I am getting a cold. I just now got the time to get my recorder out. :/
  12. I am not trying to sing through the nose. Trying to counter act the the stuffyness of my nose I may have opened the nasal cavities too much. I played and sang strait through. I kept messing up. I listented to it before I rerecorded. I started to sound too muffled like I was getting a cold. I tried to counter it and open up more. Not an excuse. Thank you for your review. I will keep an eye on that.
  13. I've been itching to post something for you to tear into. MDEW with guitar. Very early in the works. I already know my timing needs work and I hate the way I pronounce water. I screwed up bigtime on the ending. I'm still working out the chords but I couldn't wait any longer. Another thing that I noticed is the more I sing the stuffier my nose gets. I'm sure you will be able to hear it. Is it because of the way I sing? Am I doing something to cause this? Anyway Here it is. Yell at me if you have to. https://soundcloud.com/mdew/bridge-practice
  14. Sounds pretty good Ron. But you ruined my only critique. Could use a solo of sorts. But you scrapped it because it wasn't working. Songs grow over time. There is another guitar part out there somewhere waiting to be matched with your song. ;)
  15. Tommy, I know you know this already but don't over analyze things. Sing the song over and over. You know what you want. Your technique is better than it was before. The things I heard in the first take were different than in the second. No point in pointing out things that are just a matter of that particular point in time. A wobble of hesitation, A distortion or grittiness that may have been on purpose. Those things take care of themselves the more comfortable you are with the song. I am not a teacher and I may be full of BS but that is my truthful opinion. If you think you will have problems in a certain area you will have problems in that area.
  16. The first take sounded great. I did not hear anything that I would comment on other tham I liked it and I believed the singer. That does not mean that there was no shakey areas. You already knew where they were. And they were not that bad only shakey like one would expect. I do not need to comment on those. The second Take sounded as if you were more comfortable with the song and therefore sounded more natural. :)
  17. Just to let people know: I do not check the critique section every day. If I see a 2 or more songs posted by someone I may pick only one to comment on. Like all of us we do not comment on all posts. If I feel that both songs are equally well or one has some tweeking over the other I may comment on the latter and not post to the former. But If I say I liked something I liked it and If I said I didn't Idid not.
  18. I started to write a long post earlier but after reading I decided I had better take my own advice and keep my keyboard shut. Here it goes any way, What if what you hear you are not pleased with but there are no technical flaws to comment on? What if the song or voice just does not fit in your opinion? No matter how much experience you have or how technical you are, that is a matter of taste. Should you still say you do not like it because in your opinion it does not sound right or does not fit? For all I know others may feel the same way. I try to keep my comments to myself in that situation. When I first joined I thought the critique section was just that. Pick the song apart. what did you like. What did you not like. Was I on key. Did the message of the song get through in a way that was pleasant and appropriate. But I believe that I hurt some feelings or showed my obvious lack of knowledge by saying that some things did not fit emotionally in the song although the technique was way beyond my ability and understanding. And isn't that a big part of singing also, emoting? This is not a response to any ones previous posts. Just another thought that crossed my mind.
  19. Does anybody really think that a bad review is a good thing? How does "I do not like it. Your pitch is all over the place. You don't take a breath in the correct place" really help anyone? There is no guidence there. No direction. It can only lead to more confusion and frustration. Perhaps it may lead the singer to realize that he does infact need a coach. Maybe it will lead him to drop the coach that he does have. And if he has been following a program like pillars he may get disillusioned with it and abandon that path also. Why is it considered bad to say " good job" " I liked what you did in the first chorus better than what you did in the second verse". Even if someone is way off on the pitch but his support is good. Why not say " your pitch was bad but your support shows promise" ?
  20. :| I should just keep my mouth shut on everything. I am not a teacher. I myself have no control over my support. I do not know how to distort healthy or otherwise. I cannot navigate passagio (or even spell it). But there are times when I feel that I have something to say. So I say it. I may be way off base. I can be wrong. But my opinion is all that I have to give.
  21. I'm starting to really like this Karma song. I wish that I could give you a tip that would help out. It may be a little shakey at times but the pitch is there the power is there. I like the sound that you have. Is it possible to have too much support or too much cord closure?
  22. :) I like the voice and like others said just not there yet. The guitar intro to me was to repetative. Either that or it needs to sit back more in the mix. Could just be me listening on a laptop. That does tend mess things up as far a mix goes. As far as putting it together on the fly so to speak it's not bad.
  23. I really liked the way the guy playes guitar and presents the song. It is what I aim to be doing soon. I am going to be setting up my equipment soon and put some songs on the chopping block for inspection. Sorry to confuse everyone. Even though he has a thick accent at times I think he does a very good job.
  24. NO Comments. Other than the accent creeping in I have never heard one singer with an acoustic guitar sound so good and enegetic. I listened to about 15 songs. I couldn't stop myself. Maybe I need my ears checked.
  25. Takeshi Furusawa I just found this singer/guitar player on youtube. I love his sound and the way he plays. Check out some of his other songs.
