Nice job, as always, Felipe! I really don't know what else I could comment on bro. Really powerful singing. Maybe, I would like the volume of your voice just a bit lower in relation to the backing track (for my taste). Keep'em coming man!

What does the choir teacher at  your school say? Have you talked to him or her and has he or she listened to you sing? In addition, what voice type you is hard to define at the beginning of training. Better to learn some things and see where your voice leads you.
I remember a story of a singer who was classified as a baritone but he could never get the right ring. Well, he was typed as a baritone by a teacher who though men should be baritones. Until he went to another teacher who had him try some different things and turns out that he was actually a lyric tenor.
So, don't worry about your voice until you have been evaluated and learn where you strengths will lead you.

Nice going Ellise! I loved it! Did you write lyrics and music? Really good ballad, or if I may say, a POWER Ballad?! I could hear in my mind a fews routes you could go with your song, as Musikman already suggested, with a piano + strings and your beautiful voice (showing a kind of fragility and strength), or power ballad starting with a piano and then a whole band joining in with a beautiful guitar solo, and so on. You should definitely multitrack this baby, produce a video e get ready to get lots of fans. Nice going girl!

Yeah, I agree with you guys. My favorite is have you really loved a woman. Hey Aravind, you just need to figure out what you are doing different in these two songs, and adjust for Iris. Cheers

DO NOT DRINK COLD WATER AND THEN PRACTICE "RASP" OR VOCAL DISTORTION... DO NOT!
THAT IS VERY, VERY DANGEROUS AND YOU COULD HURT YOUR VOICE.  THAT IS A REALLY BAD IDEA.
COLD FLUIDS MAKE THE MUSCLES, ETC... STIFF AND NOT ABLE TO FLEX AND BEND AS THEY NEED TO.
THE SINGING VOICE NEEDS TO BE AT ROOM TEMPERATURE OR WARM BEFORE YOU SING AND TRAIN.
THE ONLY VOCAL INJURY I EVER HAD WAS DUE TO THIS EXACT ISSUE... I WAS SINGING HIGH SCREAMS AND THEN DRANK SOME COLD FLUIDS AND MY VOICE "POPPED"... AND FOR ABOUT FOUR MONTHS, I COULDN'T DO SHIT IN MY HEAD VOICE... I FULLY HEALED, BUT DRINKING COLD FLUIDS WHEN YOU ARE SINGING AGGRESSIVELY IS A NO-NO.

NICE work Aravind!! You are definitely on the right path. You didn't sound strained at all to me. Actually, you sounded very much in control in the high parts. For my taste, you just need to work a bit on the low parts to get rid of the "cartoonish voice". You made huge progress climbing your Everest, now you need to enjoy the ride. Congrats

It is awesome to hear that you are performing in public. Even as much as I learn about recording, I still feel that live performance is not to be missed and I will sing in front of anyone.
Just today, I sang my christmas song about plumbers for my boss (we are electricians.)
"Do you smell what I smell?
Do you smell what I smell?
    A plumber, a plumber
You'd better run for cover 'cause they always smell that way
No matter how many times they bathe a day."

    Hi all!

I'm back in my thread to post a big update.

Basically I went to a UK metal festival back in August and loved every minute. However, when I got home I felt very rough (too much partying to excess I fear! ) so my singing training was on hiatus for a while.

Then I got offered my first gig as my newly launched solo acoustic act! Needless to say, I spent most of my time gathering a set together and rehearsing them to death. So really, even though I haven't necessarily "trained" over the last few weeks I've certainly spent a LOT of my time singing full songs, memorising lyrics, trying songs out in different keys, working on diction/lyrical interpretation and attending open mic night performances.
The gig went really well and I have been invited back to play again.

I'm starting to get a real buzz out of performing in front of people and feel like I'm learning something new each time I go out to play.

In terms of vocal progress, some of the songs I performed included notes previously way out my comfortable range, namely a lot of F4s and even an F#4 reached with confidence. (Previous range was a struggled D4).

Oops... ok, honestly... you sounded a bit like a gay man... but it doesn't matter...
I have some tough love for you.
No. This is not how singer's think. The amount of concern you should put into feeling embarrassed when you train or sing, after about the 2nd lesson... is 0! There is not time or energy available to deal with this sort of fear. NOT IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE A SINGER, and you want to be serious.
So if you want to get more serious about singing, be prepared to walk naked with it all hanging out in front of the world in the beginning and smile, keep you head held high and repeat to yourself, "...I'll have the last laugh".

Shimada, finally getting back to you.. it has been a really hectic day, I am in the process of bringing online the world's largest online vocal technique training system.  Arguably, the most comprehensive home study program in the history of mankind... no kidding. Check it out! www.TheFourPillarsofSinging.com.
    Regarding your vocal sample:
    1. From the short sample you shared with us, I have to agree with Gneept, you have a very lovely voice that has potential. I can tell that if you trained seriously, you could go very far... but that is entirely up to your fortitude, patience and work ethic... like anything worth a damn in life. Your voice is good.
    2. You sample is a bit pitchy, but that is not to worry. I doesn't mean you have bad ears, it just means you don't have technique.
    3. I have heard this sort of thing before on this forum, specifically.... your voice is way too under resourced. One reason it sounds light, windy and perhaps a bit feminine is because you barely have any compression or muscle behind that voice. There is just almost no application here?! This is typical with beginners that don't know how to drive their voices.  Training will change that.
    4. I hear a subtle androgynous vibe, but I knew you were a man when I heard it. it still has masculine sound color... but my advise would be to get some training and bring in a lot more masculine sound color with more muscle and application... your sleeping at the wheel, if you want to become a real singer, you will have to train.

Thank you for the feedback Gneetapp and for the the link to the other thread about singing methods seems like a great starting point. I will consider getting a teacher if funds will stretch .
Also not sure if you actually mean it that way or not but you called me man and dude and I'm a girl. Maybe I am just being paranoid because I know my voice is quite low.

    Man, that is very good

You're getting the hang of how the vowel and embouchure changes while going up, and you are getting how to smooth that passaggio.  Very good.

    Some suggestions :3 :

Your head tilt to your right is a very ingrained thing, try doing the same notes,  hold them for 5 or 6 seconds, and while you are in the note nod left and right, like saying no, slowly and then increasing the speed, just to check if your larynx is maneuvering freely inside and no skelletal muscles are being involved unnecessarily.

It is noticeable that you put a lot of attention on how you are doing the sirens, although I'd recommend putting even more attention, and doing it even slower, at least for a week or two .  Really, working slow will give you crazy control. You'll feel eveything, like a vocal Daredevil, lol   Muscle memory really is key in this    I'm a ballet dancer, so I know really well how muscle memory works, and how any difficulty will decrease incredibly just by knowing in your body what to do when.

I tell you that because I noticed that you start to rush a bit on higher stuff, don't avoid it, or try to get through it so it ends quickly, haha. Our weaknesses can often become strengths if we put in enough attention and effort on them.  I'm referring also to when you demonstrated those high shaky notes, you almost didn't have any pause in between each other, it would be better to take your time, get your muscles neutral again and try to nail it ( even if it sounds shaky again, you tried your absolute best   That's what counts! ) . I promise if you do every single thing with complete awareness and detail, then in time, all you will have is what is correct...
This is nitpicking, but I'm a professional nitpicker, haha. I started doing ballet when I was 16 ( OLD :'( ) and I was the weakest in my class. I have followed this philosophy of life and now I'm one of the only two students of my original class that actually graduated and got in on the ballet company. So I guess my experience counts as something, haha

OK, I've been feeling really positive about my singing recently and am going out regularly to perform at open mic nights. My eventual aim is to gig as a solo musician supporting local unsigned acts. After a few more open mics to increase my repertoire, confidence and performance and I think I'm in with a chance of getting out there as a singer!
I even now have a Facebook page (in very early stages) with a few live videos already added!

This doesn't mean I've forgotten all about my vocal training.
In terms of vocal progress I'm feeling very good. When I first got the program I was trying songs previously way out of my range. Even though I was still straining and not sounding very good, I felt I had the ability to at least try some higher notes and noticed they were achievable if I adapted some TFPOS technique to my previous "wrong way" of doing things. I was really excited to push myself and tried a lot of songs I previously couldn't begin to sing.
It's safe to say I've calmed that down now and am more focused on singing the right way with as little tension as possible. This has taken the form of changing key of songs to accommodate my current range and randomly singercising during the day. I also sing a LOT in the car to music that is way out of my range and have applied the top-down mentality to those high belt notes. Things are waking up in my head resonances, twangs, vibrations. I'm just hoping that it gets stronger with use. I feel like doing sirens with this new feeling will be increasing my range in the proper manner without flipping to falsetto.
As always thanks for all the input and tips you give me it helps a LOT!

I'm digging it. It's a hard song and you're doing well, but you asked for tonal advice and I think I have this figured out now. I think your soft palate is a key component in your tonal control.
It sounds like on the belting parts you raise it high enough that it is possibly creating more effort than might be needed and on the lower sections you lower it down to the point where some people are critiquing the nasality.
I think finer tuned control might satisfy the cartoon critics (by raising it just slightly) and make the high end notes slightly less effortful (lowering just a bit).
If you look at this picture, you will notice the soft palate is in the area in the upper back part of your mouth, if you were to slide your tongue backwards, you'll feel a gap. Behind that and above is your soft palate.
    http://headandneckcancerguide.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/40_1_softpalateCROP.jpg
You can learn to control the amount of elevation of this. I did examples with it down too low for my tastes, up too high for my tastes, and in a more neutral position I might use on sections of this song:
    https://app.box.com/s/c5b8x5tmw8zwq2jwxjsn3i24i08wmbg1
Overall you're doing great, but I think if you get control over this any cartoon critics will be critiquing an artistic choice once you get full control over your soft palate. When you're in control of the amount of the amount, they can deal with whatever you choose. So try to practice the two different types of 'ah' I put in there. The kind of quacky, nasal one, and the super tall one. Feel the difference between the positions and try to find a neutral position that works.

Hi Good folks in this forum.  I am back after a gap.  I have been busy with work and also on trying to improve my technique.  So I wanted to take a break and post after I felt like I made progress.. I also had some issues with getting my credit card to work!!!
IT was pointed to me last time around that the effort during my belting was very much obvious and it sounded strained.  In my quest to fix this problem, I have gone back to drawing board(won't we all love to sing full sounding F4-C5 without strain:) )  and tried to address it in a way that works for me and here is the outcome.
This was a single take, so there are a few pitchy spots. But please point out any flaws you here purely from a tonal quality.
Thanks in advance to anyone who drops in a few words..
