3 things that you could work toward in order to improve this sample.
1 - Same vowel through it all, no nasalance. You begin with a nasal Ah, then you add a H behind the next note, then you change it to OH. Its either AH or Oh, and dont make it nasal, oral all the way, literally keep your voice in your mouth.
2 - Before you breath, think of the highest note on the interval you are going to sing, position your mouth, tongue, everything as if you were singing that note, then inhale WITH that positon and thinking of the vowel , dont let anything change, inhale with the "high note/vowel position" and keep it until the last note is finished.
3 - Dont thin, I have no idea of what you are trying to achieve by "thinning", but in fact, given what I heard in these samples, you would benefit from going strong. You have a bit of airyness, insecure attacks, etc. So instead of "thining out", I would think "loud and clear". Think authoritative voice, or calling someone thats far, whatever you need to keep you strong. The key here is to think of volume, of "more voice", and not of forcing/pushing it.

I'm digging it. It's a hard song and you're doing well, but you asked for tonal advice and I think I have this figured out now. I think your soft palate is a key component in your tonal control.
It sounds like on the belting parts you raise it high enough that it is possibly creating more effort than might be needed and on the lower sections you lower it down to the point where some people are critiquing the nasality.
I think finer tuned control might satisfy the cartoon critics (by raising it just slightly) and make the high end notes slightly less effortful (lowering just a bit).
If you look at this picture, you will notice the soft palate is in the area in the upper back part of your mouth, if you were to slide your tongue backwards, you'll feel a gap. Behind that and above is your soft palate.

You can learn to control the amount of elevation of this. I did examples with it down too low for my tastes, up too high for my tastes, and in a more neutral position I might use on sections of this song:

Overall you're doing great, but I think if you get control over this any cartoon critics will be critiquing an artistic choice once you get full control over your soft palate. When you're in control of the amount of the amount, they can deal with whatever you choose. So try to practice the two different types of 'ah' I put in there. The kind of quacky, nasal one, and the super tall one. Feel the difference between the positions and try to find a neutral position that works.

Nice job! I think it sounded very good. I think the strength in the belt will come if you keep practicing this song and give it a bit "more gas" as an experiment you will find the balance in your voice. I really love this song and it takes balls to sing these classic singers. When covering legendary singers like this I always figure if I get it 75 percent of the way I will be way ahead of most ordinary type singers lol. Great job again.

I think you did really well. Different from Gneetapp, I think you had the right sound for the lower notes. You were basically staying in a configuration that worked throughout.

NICE work Aravind!! You are definitely on the right path. You didn't sound strained at all to me. Actually, you sounded very much in control in the high parts. For my taste, you just need to work a bit on the low parts to get rid of the "cartoonish voice". You made huge progress climbing your Everest, now you need to enjoy the ride. Congrats

Hi Good folks in this forum.  I am back after a gap.  I have been busy with work and also on trying to improve my technique.  So I wanted to take a break and post after I felt like I made progress.. I also had some issues with getting my credit card to work!!!
IT was pointed to me last time around that the effort during my belting was very much obvious and it sounded strained.  In my quest to fix this problem, I have gone back to drawing board(won't we all love to sing full sounding F4-C5 without strain:) )  and tried to address it in a way that works for me and here is the outcome.
This was a single take, so there are a few pitchy spots. But please point out any flaws you here purely from a tonal quality.
Thanks in advance to anyone who drops in a few words..

Readers of my posts know that Freddie Mercury is my favorite singer.  I have always wanted to sing Queen songs(even if I don't do a great job of them :))
I have done a couple of takes of this very song with mixed, mostly average results.  I am confident enough in my singing and my technique to post an update.  Please comment specifically if possible on the belting/aggressive portions of the song.  Also to me the chorus sounds a bit too sharp(piercing to listen to and not in a good way).  Not sure if this is a singing technique issue or an error in mixing(or both).

I love the emotion and power in your voice. Some minor point: Something didn't seem quite right about the transition in the long beeeeeeeee at the beginning to my ears. But I may be mistaken. Really would love to be able to sing rock like that!

Well I was pleasantly surprised with this! You're still singing too forward but this is in a better direction. Listen to how you are singing: "Too many bitter tears are raining down on me" @ 0:22. This is the correct approach for this range. I have never heard you do that before. Can you sing the chorus like this?
You also need way more legato under your voice. For that you can sing the melodi on any semi-occluded exercise like the straw, lip rolls, v, z, you name it... and keep the same feeling when you are singing the words.

I've had a pretty rough day so I wasn't sure if I'd be able to review today, but I really enjoyed that and it actually improved my day.

It starts off fairly controlled and polished, you've got a refined timbre/pitch and are expressing a bit more sullenly, and the last little section just lets loose. Technically it may be less polished, but sounds emotionally released, raw, vulnerable, and just awesome. It gave me chills when you cut into that belting section and this is the best I've heard your belting.

I think you're achieving a timbre that will appeal to more western audiences, the nasality has been reduced, but it's still you. You still have that voice print that sounds like you and no one else on the forum. I give this Queen cover the thumbs up. You've made huge progress. Keep going man.

Lovely job.  This is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs and you did a great job.  And is that accent Italian?  There might be others who are critical, but to me it adds a layer of authenticity to the song..
I feel inspired to sing this myself now

Well done. This song is not easy. Such a wide range. And I really liked how you changed the timing and phrasing to suit yourself. And I could imagine you singing it to your son. Just as Geoff wrote this after his son was born. Becoming a father makes the whole world change. I say that, even though I have never had children.

Killer, I would love to do a skype session with you sometime.  If not, it will help us both exchange some notes, since we are both excited by the idea of doing this very song
I think I have narrowed down my issue to an extent that I know what the problem is.  If I forget about really making a powerful sound and just sing like I do normally, the notes are absolutely in my range.  I have a problem only when I try to sing songs in this range around the passagio powerfully.  Maybe I am using too much twang perhaps longer than what is necessary.  Strangely for me, this causes issues in my ah(as in cat) sound and I think this is what spills into the specific words.  I think Rob addresses this in his videos, where he says that twang helps in getting the high notes and the listener cannot make out the difference since the nasality is only for a fraction of a second(or something to that effect).
To me, I think the solution lies in building the muscle memory to build the onset using twang, but releasing twang without losing the compression.  I think I have a much better version of this song in me in the months to come.. And I can carry over this lesson to other similar songs..
