Hi Hunter, welcome to the forum! Lots of great people on here and lotsa songs clips to listen to from members. Elise is a fantastic singer and I would check out what she is doing as she is a fine example of a young singer with TONS of talent.

    Hi Hunter
if your having trouble with runs this is what i do, i sing the the part with the runs really slowly and really make sure i get every note then speed it up (it helps a lot.

So this is kinda a lazy cover because I just set my mic by the speaker and sang with the original song instead of doing my own instruments but I think that the effect is pretty cool so I thought I'd post it.  My voice is decently a bit louder than the original track so you should be able to make it out just fine. http://picosong.com/62n7/

Hi there, another song that will be part of the repertoire and that I was taking a look to see what I was going to do. I decided to go a bit more for the bright sound Mike Patton used at the time, please let me know if it sounds fine

Nice Job Felipe, ......... Just an observation ............. it helps to record this after a few days of beating yourself up over all the crap that goes on in this life.  There is a certain pain that causes one to think......." I hurt myself today, just to see if I can feel " .........Been there done that .....the expression of this feeling is very subtle. To get it in your voice almost takes reliving it as you sing. It is never a matter of "do I sing this dark or do I express it through a talk/sing? "
I am also not proposing that every time you sing this you must be in that state of mind (that could put one into the loony bin,).......but certainly while working the song and getting the nuances down it helps.

Also, I am not implying that woman can't sing a beautiful song, just that as a man I wouldn't shy away from a track originally sung by a woman lol. I didn't mean any disrespect to Ellise

Hi Javastorm, I am such a theater geek love me some Wicked. I really love the tone of your voice, I always hear a nice warmth in your voice kinda R&Bish without being overt. It's definitely something I struggle with in my singing. I seem to have a very strong and bright voice but the darker shades sometimes are the hardest for me to achieve. I love this song and I really am enjoying your soft verses they are very emotionally charged and flow extremely naturally. I heard only a slightly flat note here and there NOTHING major and it didn't pull me out of the listening enjoyment of the track. At the climax note at the end I could feel you just holding on lol but you made it, a little more support may help on that note. You did a great job on a beautiful song. I am a rocker but I still do not shy away from beautiful songs even if its a song by a woman as I have done Alone (From Heart) on this forum in the past. Quick question is this song in the original key? If so then additional props for doing such a fantastic job.

I was feeling adventurous today.. It's a song I'm familiar with but never really worked on in depth. The C5's towards the end felt more comfortable to me than the Bb4's, and I remember my teacher saying this would happen at some point because of the way these notes work in a belty sort of configuration. I guess it holds up here, but I'm proud I was able to actively think of and use technique I've learned to even access these notes today.
I usually don't touch Musical Theater, mostly because I'm not sure how it's properly meant to be performed - same reason why I don't go near operatic stuff unless it's the crossover stuff that Josh Groban and similarly styled artists have done. I've done one Rent song, Will I,  but it doesn't really sound like a "theater" song per se to me. Anyway, hope you enjoy and I hope there is some semblance of theatricality to this recording. Any and all feedback welcome.

This is a hit song. Seriously, it is as good as anything out there. Definitely record it pro and and release it, either on your own label or with a label. You have mentor who owns a recording studio? Alright then, quit pretending you have never heard of the music and recording business and get a lawyer and get moving.
Trust me, you are young but it goes by in the blink of an eye. You need to do something about now, while you still have health and youth.
Reminds of one of my favorite lines from "It's a Wonderful Life."
"Ah, youth! It's wasted on the wrong people!"

I kind of new where you were coming from. Not only did Bowie do a duet with Queen, but this song sounds a lot like a David Bowie song. Give yourself some slack. You may have accidently confused Freddie with David but that is not a bad thing, in my book. Both are and were awesome artists.

I love your tone girl! I do like the song. Is it going to stay just piano, and vox with a bit of orchestration? I can hear lots of interesting ideas for this song. Very nice, are you going to multi-track this song soon?

Musikman7002 reacted to Adolph Namlik in I've Damaged My Voice - Is it Reversible?
Welcome to The Modern Vocalist World Forum, s334567pq !
First of all, let me stress that I am NOT a doctor !!!
Don't panic ! Since you mentioned that you aren't experiencing any pain or hoarseness, I seriously doubt that you have done permanent damage to your voice, nor do I believe that you have developed nodules, nodes, etc. My suggestions would be that you rest your voice for a few days. NO singing, limit your speaking for a few days, and get plenty of rest. If you are still experiencing problems, then yes, see a doctor as you mentioned.
Also, I would try some teas mixed with honey to soothe the throat. Or simply use a couple of teaspoons of honey a couple of times daily. DO NOT use products that numb the throat !!! All they do is numb your throat and "mask" your symptoms.
Speaking of teas, if you are SERIOUS about your singing, check out the "Singer's Tea" which you can purchase right here at TMV World. They are by far the best teas I have found. Here's a link for your convenience :
    http://singerstea.com/
I'm also including a gargle "mixture" that is very helpful :
    Vocal Gargle
Gargle (for Coughs, Sore Throat, etc. GREAT for use after singing. Can be used prior to singing as well)
     MIX:
2 TBS. Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
2 TBS Honey (Preferably locally produced)
    1/2 tsp. Slippery Elm Powder
Approx. 1/4 tsp. Sea Salt (Good Quality)
    1 oz. Aloe Vera Gel/Juice
    4 - 6 Drops Glycerin
    1 cap full Hydrogen Peroxide
    1 cap full "Alkolol" TM
    Few Drops Lemon Juice
    4 - 6 Drops Tea Tree Oil
    4 - 6 Drops Licorice
Pinch Cayenne Pepper to Taste (Be CAREFUL)
Mix with warm water (Use a 12 oz. Tumbler)
    Use at Room Temperature
    (Refrigerate after use)
     DO NOT INGEST

Note : I realize that you may have some difficulty finding some of these ingredients LOCALLY, but try to add as many as possible.

    Kindly keep us posted......

    Warmest Regards,
    Adolph

Oops... ok, honestly... you sounded a bit like a gay man... but it doesn't matter...
I have some tough love for you.
No. This is not how singer's think. The amount of concern you should put into feeling embarrassed when you train or sing, after about the 2nd lesson... is 0! There is not time or energy available to deal with this sort of fear. NOT IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE A SINGER, and you want to be serious.
So if you want to get more serious about singing, be prepared to walk naked with it all hanging out in front of the world in the beginning and smile, keep you head held high and repeat to yourself, "...I'll have the last laugh".

Nice job! I think it sounded very good. I think the strength in the belt will come if you keep practicing this song and give it a bit "more gas" as an experiment you will find the balance in your voice. I really love this song and it takes balls to sing these classic singers. When covering legendary singers like this I always figure if I get it 75 percent of the way I will be way ahead of most ordinary type singers lol. Great job again.

Kasper, this makes perfect sense after hearing you sing.... No, your sounds are not really falsetto, technically no. They are a very lightly compressed head voice sound or a very light vocal twang... they lean very close toward the falsetto spectrum, but not quite put falsetto.
My educated guess is, that the very light "heady" sound you use when you sing, ... even though you are really good at it and it sounds lovely, it has also had the undesirable result of making your adduction musculature underdeveloped. If you want stable bridges to F#4 through the vocal break and head voice notes that are not always that "sweet heady" sound, you have to do resistance training techniques that specifically focus on building the adductors and muscles required to anchor your larynx more, adduct the vocal folds more strongly/stable... and you probably need to uptake your respiration as well... if you work the muscles more, you may have to compensate my increasing the sub glottal respiration pressure to balance the physics of a good, "adducted" sound tone!
Anyways, the simple answer is,... if your not training the musculature and coordination to have a stable bridge to the low head voice and sustain a "boomy" resonance, then it isn't going to happen for you. The voice is a muscle and ligaments, etc... it requires training and singing in the configurations that you need or want to get to. Continuing on with the light , pretty head voice stuff is great... your very good at it... but it isn't going to fix these issues your talking about. For that, you have to walk across the gym and start lifting weights you haven't lifted before, metaphorically.
Now honestly, my training system is very popular and very effective if you actually train the techniques. And I just launched my new online course work system that is "sick"... there is nothing else like it in the world... go check it out: www.TheFourPillarsofSinging.com ... inside this system are videos, lessons, quizzes, training demonstrations and EVERYTHING you need and then some... to show you how to get to work NOW... to start building that musculature.

I had been working on this song since last year - the climax "Because of you" isn't as full as I would like it to be, I guess since my voice thins out past Bb4, but I think the pitch is right for the most part. This key felt really comfortable for me though besides that part. I really like this Adult Contemporary stuff she did. Any and all feedback welcome.
