  1. Thanks a lot man, I appreciate it "Southern Gentleman" hahaha.. reminds me of Chet Atkin's guitar more than myself. I plan to move back purely because I miss the country lifestyle. Thought I would come out to the city for bigger opportunities with school but I ended up finding out that the opportunities weren't worth the stress of living in the heart of the city. I'm thankful for the experience but I can't wait to get back heheh. Thanks again you two.
  2. Hey guys, sorry for not being around for the last few weeks. I took a quick trip back home to see my family and start the preparations to moving back to MS from California. I recorded this tune today for fun and would be happy to share it with the few classic country fans we have here. Anyway, happy to be back on the forum and hope you guys enjoy. http://picosong.com/N99s/
  3. Thank you both so much for taking the time, I think your criticisms are definitely on point. I did lower the song quite a bit, probably too low for my voice but unfortunately any higher would have also been too high. Also, I'm a big fan of Roy Orbison so I appreciate the comparison. I will probably work on centering the pitch and then see if I can eventually raise the key without hurting myself. Thanks again.
  4. Any and all feedback welcomed, had to drop the key on this one considerably to be able to do it comfortably but still spotty. Thanks in advance for the time. http://picosong.com/A9wD/
  5. Having your singing reviewed here is a payed service due to how hectic the section became in the past when everyone on the internet could post their singing with no obligations to the community. (turned into hundreds of posts from people who just came to get reviewed and leave) The membership plan is extremely modest and helps keep this forum running. Consider getting a month if you want to participate in the review section. http://www.themodernvocalistworld.com/store/category/2-premium-membership-plans/
  6. Awesome, that gives me a full month to figure out how the hell I'm going to sing that high.
  7. Beatles or Bee Gees. Would be cool to do a 60s challenge period.
  8. Hey man! Great job as always. A Diamond performance.
  9. Really cool song choice man! Definitely a favorite of mine. Smokey is the true master in the soulful light head voice field. So I heard the original and the new one and here are the improvements I can hear musically speaking: + Improved pitch on your vocal runs, and in general. + Rhythm is more on beat, the first one had a lot of rushing particularly on the second line in the original. + Better sound quality + Nicer feel for the song. Only negative criticism I have is that the last falsetto run at the end of the second one was a bit out of place. Other than that, only other thing is the fact that most is an octave below the Smokey version, which isn't necessarily a negative but does kinda feel underwhelming at times. I'm sure if you keep up what you are doing in another year you will really be looking good.
  10. I can definitely see that comparison Jon, thanks for listening everyone.
  11. Thanks man, that means a lot! Maybe he is a distant cousin haha.. I think it's the double track that makes it sound similar to the T. Rex style. I know the song you mention, but not sure if I've heard the original. I just know the hair metal version. For me it was just a light twangy chest, I'm not bridging at all here or anything. If you are asking about the original song, I am not sure. I'd imagine the same but only he would know hehe. Thanks for listening.
  12. Haha damn, I didn't know I posted it twice sorry. Man that's exactly what I was thinking, I was trying to come up with new songs/artists to work with to get me into a lighter function and just like you said I was like, "Ah Marc, the master of not pulling chest." Thanks for listening everyone.
  13. Something I threw together in the wee hours of the night. I did a double track vocal to try and get the sound right and I think besides a few occasional out of syncs it works nicely. Hopefully you guys like it. http://picosong.com/E2RM/
  14. No, that would be Lou Gramm. He is merely his messenger.
  15. Reverse Summer of '96' and what do you get? Bryan Adams you aren't fooling anyone, welcome to TMV.
  16. Yeah I agree, thanks guys. I know it's a cop out to just sing with the track but it's a lot of fun + kinda helps me with pitch to have the vocal.
  17. So this is kinda a lazy cover because I just set my mic by the speaker and sang with the original song instead of doing my own instruments but I think that the effect is pretty cool so I thought I'd post it. My voice is decently a bit louder than the original track so you should be able to make it out just fine. http://picosong.com/62n7/
  18. Great work brother, I can definitely hear you playing into the Mike Patton signature nasality but very tastefully. Keep up the great singing man, no criticisms for this one.
  19. Thanks man, my problem was that I recorded the guitar and the vocals at the same time and had bad mic placement. I probably should have recorded them separately but it's a lot of fun just powering through the song like that. Thanks for the listen and critique. : )
  20. The high notes were a little tight but everything else flowed pretty nicely. Not too much to criticize, I enjoyed the cover. Now do something off Screaming for Vengeance.
  21. Thanks man, I indeed hear the pitchy parts too. I probably should have done more takes but I am a lazy guy when it comes to recording. Thanks for listening.
