I was not meaning that in a negative way......Pretty much the same way as you descibed it. Do things our way, sometimes Just to be different. It is more fun.

I truly want to see a banjo playing true texan in todays music. I know they exist but i want to hear it more exposed. Good music is hard to come by these days if your not actively looking. Im getting tired of ke$has and nicki minaj Style song.

Hell yeah. MDEW should take Hillbilly all the way. Layne Staley and Steven Tyler already existed anyway. He should take this thing to it's limit.

You say Hillbilly with kind of a negative conotation. I hear hillbilly and read it as independent culture with defining characteristics and staying true to the way they are raised. Nothing wrong with that. Furthermore i aplaud you for staying true to who you are. :)

Dont get hung up on baritones tenors and basses. Fach doesent mean anything in pop music or should i say contemporary. we have a thread about bari's basses singing high here on forum with 200+ posts. take a read.

Now i think you are speak-singing. you need to really get into singing mode. its hard for me to explain as im a begginer also. But try giving it more strenght like ron said and dont be afraid of "sucking". i thnk you are trying to much to not sound bad or embarassing, and then you end up almost reciting the lyrics.

I can hear that you have an ear for pitch. it wasnt perfect but you hear the melody and you are trying to follow it, and you DO, but its more of a "lyrical recitation" (if thats a thing) than singing.

Try to loose up and really let it go and record again.

The only thing missing is grit and a bit clearer pitch and your done..you have done really good. I like it.

Also take note that if geoff tate sang this it would be very mellow and like aa choir boy

Sry to knick the thread but i just wanted to ask Robert a question.

Rob do you have to modify vowels that much. Seems to me that Layne doesent modify as much as you in this cover. Just wondering if thats stylistic thing or actual necessity

As far as i can see comparing you to some other begginer singers i heard, this is a start of a good head voice.First it sounds a bit funny like this, but its kinda full and not really a breathy falsetto.

So i think this sound can be streghtened over time and become a fullblown singing voice for you to use.

Bass can sing high and not sound strained. Some say Axl Rose is a Bass actually, but i guess he isnt the best example of singing high and not sounding strained. But you get my drift.

Singing high isnt the privilege of tenors, its a privilege that only those ppl who take their time and train can have.

Just a friendly advice, Get 4 pillars of singing and start working bro. Robert Lunte (the owner of forum and pillars) is always here to help you with the course.

Clasification doesent matter at all in pop singing. Its only for operatic stuff because u need resonance for people to hear you. I know what you are thinking, if im tenor i can hit high notes, and the truth is it doesent matter. Geoff tate is baritone and is singing deep inside the fifth octave, founder of TMV forum Robert Lunte is Baritone and he is belting F5.

Dont get caught on classifications and start working bro :)

I couldnt agree more. Thats why proggresive music is an acquired taste, because its "hard" unlike some simpler songs that do indeed appeal to the massess. But Robert your lyrics are awesome. Blue Rain is truly an original.

There seems to be a lot of "How to sing like..." videos these days. Is the pursuit of "how to sing like" someone else really the main goal you should be focused on in your singing?  Every voice is unique and every voice has the ability to demonstrate its unique areas of power, tone, range and embellishments. To be inspired by other singers is inevitable and to learn from other singers is a worthy endeavor, up to a point. But if you are going to become a legitimate vocal artist, you have to present YOUR voice to the audience, not trying to sing like someone else. As a voice coach, I am interested in helping you to learn about training techniques, to enable you to find your voice and grow as an singing artist.
Having made that point, here is a song I wrote years ago that has been played in many different ways through the years. A lot of people have enjoyed this song through the years. If it is new to you, I hope you enjoy it as well. It is one of those tunes that just comes together in about 5 minutes that song writers experience from time to time... Some songs just "flow" out... others have to be "built" and take more work.
The less "romantic" explanation is... this is the result of new audio mastering skills for video production. I remastered the audio on this and then rendered a new, "fresh" file... repurposing old, but good content... Enjoy!

Thanks for your time and i apologise about the title. Gonna be more mindful next time.

I figured out this configuration just recently, less than a month. Its getting a bit stronger as time passes and i am slowly working my way into it currently.

Also i will be buying 4 pillars in less than a week, im waiting my mother to use her debit card so i can buy pillars since my accounts are frozen, so no there are no onsets as i dont really know how to make an onset, and based on some youtube vids of yours i watched i didnt really get how to make them accept for the Q&R onset.

What are my goals? My goals are to learn how to bridge and to make the notes stronger so i can use them practically in singing. I listen to rock/metal and would like to be able to sing higher with more power.

I know this takes alot of practice and thats why im asking so many question cuz im excited about my proggress and am very passonate about singing.

Well im singing for a year now and i can divide my proggress in 2 stages.

    1. Until 2 months ago i ONLY sang. No youtube no nothing. Huge proggress. So first advice is just SING.

    2. 2 months ago i started watching youtube coaches and using this forum. During that time i improved almost as much as 10months of singing before.

So general advice (this is what im doing andbit works for now). Sing, ask help on this forum, watch videos, and save money for a good vocal proggram

your current singing abilities are even better than alot of the local bands singers ive heard (and i heard ALOT)...

Depends what you are after. But what ronws said is probably your best bet. Vocal training programm like 4 pillars of singing or some other coupled with occasional skype lessons will do wonders. A skype lesson every 3 months or so just to see if you are working correctly should be enough
