  1.    Welcome to the challenge 8tor. I wish I could sing those high parts like you did,   That sounded pretty cool.
  2.     You covered this just to justify buying a Kazoo didn't you?    One of the first songs I learned how to play. I like it.
  3.   True, I would like to hear Steve Perry capture the smoothness of John Legend. Or John sing "Open Arms".
  4.    I was not meaning that in a negative way......Pretty much the same way as you descibed it. Do things our way, sometimes Just to be different. It is more fun.
  5.    I may try some things later on this evening. I was thinking about this song on the drive to work. That was when I started hearing Steven singing it in my mind. I could kind of hear the drums too and it seemed like it would work in that style.
  6.      Did you read the part about it still sucking without a GOOD singer.    If I could sing like Steve or Layne I wouldn't need to be here. But, then again I'm a Hillbilly, we do strange things just because.
  7.       I was kidding about a ZZTop version but  I can hear someone like Steven Tyler singing this. All of Me could easily be transformed into a Rock Balad. I could probably come up with a decent Bass line, Guitar track and distorted lead like Joe Perry or Brian May, But it would still suck without the proper drums and a good singer.      The melody would not need to change that much just a little more rasp and some screaming in place of the falsetto. The tone should be something on the lines of Steve Tyler in "Crying".  It could work.       Paul Stanley and Kiss could rock this out.
  8.     Duck Dynasty will have to wait. I plan on joining ZZTop. They don't know it yet. I think I can sneak in without being noticed until it is too late.    I plan on recording this with just the guitar again to see what happens. Maybe I will try a ZZTop Version.
  9.     Thanks guys. Overall tone is more of a concern to me than pitch. Pitch will get better with fine tuning and familierity.     Tone comes from the entire package.  Those flat notes on the falsetto will get better. The question is, was I even singing in falsetto or using it correctly? Was there too much compression on the folds, not enough air coming through and many other things that I don't even know how to ask.    I understand why people say that I sound nasal.....My tone when singing normal ends up being irritating especially when above G4.    In this song you hear a pretty good contrast between what I call "modal" and what I call "Falsetto"   "Cards on the (TA)ble" and "Risking (All)".... Table and All where flat. They go beyond my limit on MODAL. I almost sang those "Falsetto" like John does when singing live, but in trying that I somehow ended up finding a way to get close to the pitch without that switch to falsetto.      Above G4 even when using a connected sound I am still closer to the sound of the Falsetto in "a a all of you" than the sound I had with "Cards on the Table"
  10.    Thanks Ronws, I'm just wondering if anyone else will even listen to it. After all I am a Hillbilly who looks like he escaped from the cast of Duck Dynasty. I have no buisiness trying an RnB love song.     I think I did it justice this time.
  11.     So I caved and downloaded Felipes' backing track.  I still consider this a work in progress and I must admit that I cheated somewhat in that I rerecorded some of the more troublesome parts. This is not a one track straight through recording, but a tool to help me improve.    Any suggestions appreciated. Even if you just do not like my tone let me know. I am working on that.
  12.      I think it has to do with the RnB stylistic thing. Most of those words are on a sliding note. More energy would help. As I mentioned before that 2nd All in the chous is on a note that is not sounded by the piano. Timing is also crucial because he is playing a piano and the chords are stretched in runs or fills and not sounded fully. The timing must match so the notes line up to harmonize, the voice with the piano runs....being a little fast or slow and you miss the sweet spot. Even a note that is on pitch will sound off.      I downloaded Felipes Mp3 and had to play my guitar along with the piano to get the timing right. It also helped me to get a comfortable groove going. I also have the same issue with those sliding notes and that dreaded 2nd All in the chorus.
  13.    If you listen closely, The part at the end where he sings the covered "Give you all of Me" and "Cards on the Table".... they overlap. Both of those where recorded separately.  Even if we were to sing each verse and chorus at a different recording session it would not be cheating.    I have not listened to a live recording of this yet but I would not be surprised if he plays and sings  it different live.
  14.  Steven Tyler is a tuff act to follow.   and this song is not an easy song. John makes it look easy but I am sure he spent weeks in the studio. Plus the way some of the words overlap proves that he made a few tracks and dubbed them together. We could sound that good too if we could record each word or phrase separately and pick the best tracks to edit together.   The magic of mixing.
  15.    It is that blasted 2nd ALL in the chorus..   the note is the 4th of the chord. The piano does not play that note or it passes by quickly so the Chord of E#m sus4  is made by the voice adding that note.  The rushed part is only at "my rhythm and Blues"   It is a pretty good start.  You and I learn a song in a few hours and post it. Others study the song for a few weeks before even trying it. Then they pick it apart for a few more days and work on those weak spots. All in all a pretty good starting point.
  16.  Thanks Ron and Thanks Bzean for the support.     You are correct Ron. I kept flip flopping between My normal country sound to something I thought was more appropriate.  This was my last shot at recording that night and I just went ahead and let my natural speed take over. I have another recording of this a bit slower and a more steady beat but to be honest it just sucks.    I thought about going ahead and downloading Felipes track and singing to that but I will not be singing this live to anyone using a piano or an Mp3 Player. I will be playing my guitar so I want to make it suitable for that.   I posted this to get feedback not as the finished product.
  17.    Raise your hand if you heard the guitar and then just clicked the close button. This is about the singing not the style........If you have comments please post. I am trying to improve not impress.
  18.   I think you have the right approach on this for your voice, just a few more days of singing it to lock everything in place.  You already sound a whole lot better than I do.
  19.  Sounds pretty good Elvis. I would treat this one as a practice, that is how I am treating my submission. With a few more days you could really polish this up. I liked your recording better than my own. I tried those high parts and crashed and burned so I dropped the high note(cheated) for now. You pretty much have those high parts nice and solid.  I think I am going to download the Track that Felipe provided and record mine again. The Piano sounds so much better than a guitar for this.
  20.    I don't mind the nit picking at all.   I noticed those wonkey things also. I start off the verse flat and kind of slide into it, If you thought the high parts were flat you should have heard the rest of the 2 or 3 hours worth of recording that I scrapped.      I had to change that bridge with "Cards on the Table"  I just could not sing that G#4 covered or straight and had to drop it to the F4.  I was surprised that it worked as well as it did.     Thanks for listening. I do plan on working on this some more.
  21.     Here is my first draft, I know it is a little fast but my slower version really sucked. Any tips appreciated.   '&do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>>
  22.     I am trying this out for the Beginners Challenge. Let me know what you think. Any comments welcome.               Here is a link to the updated recording. I downloaded the backing track.
  23.    Sounds great....     Wish the Cruise ship recording was a little better quality.
  24.   Welcome to the forum Umesh.   Sounded pretty good to me. I like your delivery, It felt like you meant every word of the song.   I love this forum, you get hear people all over the world singing some of the same songs.
