  1. Thanks for the feedback. I will make a more serious attempt. I am still working on "House of the Rising Sun" and hope to have it posted soon.
  2. I am pretty much wondering if it is a song I should pursue or drop. I recorded this at night and did not go all out on the volume as the song calls for. That may help with keeping the timbre a little closer between The verses and choruses. When singing this for fun I usually go for the over modified vowels like the original singer "Oh, How Ah L-ah-ve Y-oh- " but on this I kept it closer to my own speach. I had not considered putting this in my song/set list before but if it is worthy I will put more effort into it.
  3. Thanks for the support guys, your renwed dedication to the review section is overwhelming.
  4. This is not a song I would normally try to cover but my wife has been playing it over and over. I needed to record it to get it to stop playing in my head. Any thoughts on what I need to improve on is welcome.
  5. My wife has been putting a few select songs on repeat and playing one song all day. One of them is "Nights in White Satin". Not one of my favorite songs but it is OK. I had to record it to stop it from playing in my head. I may post it later on today. Another one is Adeles' "Hello". I haven't recorded that one yet but I may have to.
  6. Sounds good Benny. The last few songs I recorded were just to stop the song from repeating in my head. Somehow recording it seems to purge it from the system. Then something else gets stuck and the process repeats...............
  7. You have not heard a BeeGees Song? Except for the fact that they were railroaded because of the Disco fiasco they were brilliant song writers and singers. After the death of Disco and the BeeGees boycot they had Number one hits as writers and producers in pretty much all genres except for Classical. They had hits in Country, RnB, Pop and Rock. The only writers and producers to have #1 albums in Country, RnB, Pop and Rock at the same time. Although different singers singing the songs it was BeeGees we were listening to. "Islands in the Streem" performed by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rodgers was a BeeGees Song. I am not sure what the other songs were at this point but that was the beauty of it. We were still listening to BeeGees even after the Beegees themselves were blackballed from the Radio stations because of the Disco thing. Just click on youtube and treat yourself to some BeeGees. You will not be disappointed. I already posted one BeeGees Song a little while back but I have one or two in mind for this challenge.
  8. Any teacher who tells you that you have a crap voice and does NOT give instructions to make it better is a bad teacher. Period. I trust the assessment of Jens and Felipe. They have no problems with telling someone that they sound bad. First hand experience. And they were correct. I did not hear you sing because of the download issue but any voice can improve. Confidence is the main sticking point for most people. Because of the lack of confidence they sing too low of a volume or do not give enough energy to the voice for it to work as it should. If your teacher is helping you and you can see progress(if this is the same teacher who said you have a crap voice) perhaps she was giving tough love and kicking you into working harder. Sometimes that approach works and sometimes not. As Jens said, even the best of singers are disliked by someone. I cannot listen to Celine Dion and I have been told she is fabulous. I just can't handle her for some reason.
  9. I only knew of him from 1960s American Bandstand where he was one of the original Teen Idols singing love songs. Eventually he sang for Black Sabbath. He went on to become the Ultimate Metal Rock God.
  10. Killer tone Jens. Not much else I can say about it(critique wise). Good to hear a full song from you on the forum. I give it a Ten on the awesome scale.
  11. Awesom post Robert. Ellise, when you record through a recording device you get the opportunity to change little things that you may not be happy with. Maybe the whole song went perfect except for one little flub or falter, you can then go back and "Fix" just that one section. Working on songs this way really help you to "Hone in" on things like Tone, Vibrato and Dynamics. It also allows you to have Backing music to sing too that will help lead you into some more expressive feelings and guide your singing. Robert is correct with a little boost from Video and audio editing your over all presentation will improve tremendously.
  12. I have a general observation Gsoul, I have noticed that most of your singing is either between E2 and C3 or between E4 and C5 with falsetto. Do you hear your voice as being the same pitch with the songs you are singing or do you realise that you are singing an Octave lower in the Low parts of a song? Nothing wrong with singing an octave lower. It sounds pretty cool with your voice and you handle it well. On some songs you may want to change the key a little to see how your voice responds between C3 and D4.
  13. Danny is putting that growl in on purpose. I have been trying to get that growl for years. I know how it is made and know how to imitate his overall sound but I just cannot get that particular "Southern Rock" growl. I can do the Louis Armstrong and George Thorogood rasp pretty easy on the lower notes. High notes are a work in progress.
  14. "And when the Morning Comes" There is this growl thing in there. Maybe a product of the doubling but each first line of the chorus it is there. Mainly heard on "MORNING"
  15. Cool Gsoul, Your tone is more solid throughout, In the original there were times the your voice kind of cut out like there was not enough air to keep things moving. This sort of thing happens to everyone when singing that low. On the new recording both the lowest lows and Highest falsetto were clear and consistent.
  16. I am not sure why this is the ultimate Rock song, But it is. Well this and Hot Blooded by Foreigner.(I think it is because of the Groupie thing. Love groupies.) Paul Rodgers is awesome. Fine job Felipe.
  17. I just took another listen this song. Your chorus is pretty catchy(you do have a little of the Molly Hatchet growl in there) but it is a little too catchy to be repeating at the end, Replace the repeated chorus with a Lead Skat like you were using in the beginning of the song. George Benson style. You can keep that rhythm that you liked so much. Just a thought.
  18. He got that Thick sound by a sort of "German Knodel"(like the sound in the beginning of Def Leppards Rock of Ages). The growl in his voice was made by the sound going behind the soft palate like a gargle. Sing Flirtin with disaster with the sound of "Gunter Glieben Glauchen Globen". See what happens.
  19. Sounds nice Javastorm, I did not notice anything that needs to be addressed in this song. I am not familiar with the original but your version stands on its own merits. In other words I will most likely listen again just for enjoyment.
  20. Nice tone. A little too many chorus repeats but you knew that already. You sound pretty good already. With 4 pillars you will only get better. Welcome to the forum.
  21. . Do you still have the means to boost the vocals? Sounds pretty good other than that.
  22. Sounding good Jeremy, If you have been concerned with too much weight or intencity I think you are on the right track. I have noticed that there are a few songs that I sing where the original singer is using more of a light "Almost" falsetto voice and I am singing a heavy chest but then again I have a slightly different "feeling" I want to express in the song. A heavier phonation to express a deeper feeling. As long as you have the means to make the choice and know why you are singing heavier or lighter then you are on the right track.
  23. I haven't been around the review section for awhile, What you have done on this is a great start. Felipe made some fine suggestions and I cannot add to that except to say that what you may perceive as "Weight" in Bruces voice is not "Weight". Bruce may have a slightly "Tighter" sound but his voice is a little different than yours that is all. As Bob, Felipe and Daniel would say it is in the Vowels at this point for you.
