  1. I agree with Robert. You need to sing like you expect people to hear you. There is no choice, no way around it. To have the awesome voice that you want, you have to let it out. There is no magic pill that turns you from a whispering and quivering mess one day into a Ronnie James Dio the next. Get a coach or a teacher or get the program that Robert has. As Elvis said, you already have a voice that is good enough to be trained. So, start training. It's like me picking up a golf club and wanting to be Tiger Woods but "afraid" to go to at least the driving range and "fail." Because there are other people at the range that want to help. I had a nasty slice (ball goes hard right on the strike.) So, a guy told me, being as tall as I am, keep your knees together to force your body swing. And since I was swinging right-handed, though I am left-handed, he told me to roll the second knuckle of my left hand to visible part of the shaft. With that, 150 yard line drive with a 5 iron. I don't have any magic words to give you and you are not getting an "Oh my god, the best singer ever." You have to work for it, just like everyone else. If you are not willing to work around your "issues" and get some lessons or some training, none of us can help and you might want to find another avenue of musical expression.
  2. Funny, I didn't get that impression at all, of you sounding like DeYoung. But I guess different people have different ears.
  3. You have a great tone for pop and funk. It sounds like you are using autotune. I would ease of on that. We like voices a little more natural, here. But yes, you can sing, at least with autotune. I would like to hear you with out it and all the editing.
  4. Well done. I recognize your face from the old forum format but I think your login has changed. Keep on singing. I liked the black and white video feel. A classic look for a classic-souinding song treatment. More of a torch song than a hip-hop r&b thing.
  5. I do mean the Meatloaf ref as a compliment. He has been described by others as having a huge voice, as you can plainly tell on Bat Out of Hell and Bat Out of Hell II. as well as his sound on the soundtrack and movie, "Rocky Horror Picture Show." Never lose that big sound. And, another Texas pride thing. Meatloaf, real name, Michael Aday, is from Dallas, Texas and I think he still maintains a home, here. Another Texas brag. Denmark native King Diamond also makes Dallas home. Judging from the houses shown in a doc on metal, the houses in the neighborhood would place him somewhere in the middle-sized homes in the Lakewood area. (Of course, only those people familar with Dallas would know what I am talking about. Basicallly, the White Rock Lake area.)
  6. I think, MDEW, there is a general feeling that if you do a cover with the guitar, that you should go "whole hog," in our vernacular. Give it a bit more of a country treatment. It's cool to do an acoustic guitar treatment, just make it a bit more country. Last weekend, I was at the MILs house and picked up FILs guitar. (He passed away August of last year, at the age of 89.) I started messing with "Carry On Wayward Son" and couldn't seem to record it right. I also toyed with "La Grange" by ZZ Top but that needs separate tracking and I only had the H1 portable with me. And that was inspired because Saturday night, we ate at a local mexican restaurant called Los Cabos and a bunch of little league and school baseball and softball teams were having dinner there, including a team from nearby La Grange, Texas. (MIL lives in south Texas, halfway between Houston and Austin.) Anyway, so I realized that if I was going to do "Carry On, Wayward Son" on just an acoustic, I should make it more country and failed. So, maybe, another time.
  7. That was really good. I could hear tonal qualities of both Tate and, funnily enough, Meatloaf. One thing about pronunciation, as it sounded slightly awkward to me. The phrase "raison d'etre." (french for "reason to be.") It is pronounced ray-zahn deh. Spoken, the t is soft. Sung, it is more of a glottal stop than a dental stop of tongue against upper palate. Other than that, I like it.
  8. A point to Anthony for mentioning Nuno. Some of these guitar players are only known by other guitar players. Kind of an insider's "Who's who."
  9. I wanted to join the challenges but I just couldn't get a feel for the songs. I like Brad Paisley and that is a great song but I got so hung up on Rowdy Friends, it was blocking out everything else. And I guess, we always have the choice join a challenge, or not. But I can certainly enjoy and applaud others' submissions.
  10. r&b - "Rich Girl" Hall and Oates folk- "Leader of the Band" by Dan Fogelberg. I did this one before, but I could be tempted to do it again and maybe better.
  11. That one worked, MDEW. That was good. Everyone has been posting really good versions.
  12. Wow! Completely unexpected. In Brad's voice: "Anthony's got skills, y'all!". A singer in sheepish clothing. and bravo to him for showing off some shredding skills, too.
  13. I likey Dew! I think I gave you this advice on some other tune as well, but I think it would be nice if you countrified it at bit more. I think that could really work. How were you able to hear it? I clicked on the link and it took me to the soundcloud main login page.
  14. Second opinion, listening to your other covers. I liked your version of "Creep" and "All of Me." And you are really limited by your mic. Sounds like you are singing into a soup can. Probably the most affordable option for you is a USB mic.
  15. My favorite song from my favorite band. You have kind of a hyponasal sound through most of it. Did you notice how your voice felt more open on the high parts? Do that on the low parts by smiling, just a little. I liked the scream at the end.
  16. Oh please you can call me sexy Yeah, kinda difficult to call you sexy with that beer gut hanging out.
  17. OMG! What a coincidence! I just learned that song in my singing class, and I have an upload on youtube of me doing it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROv9w6K8JIk Please upload a pic for your avatar. It makes the forum look better. If I like reading your posts, it's easier to see a unique pic than juts a gray blob.
  18. Sounded good to me. On some of the higher notes, your tone reminds me of Bryan Adams, which I mean in a good way. As for accent, I can hear it and it doesn't bother me, though others might mention it. Which is funny because Paul Hewson (aka Bono) is irish and still sounds irish when he is singing. So, who's to say that accent is all that important?
  19. I have heard of the band but I had not heard this song. But I liked your version.
  20. That was really good, Joshua. How much AC/DC do you in a set? You guys have this one really solid.
  21. I am totally surprised, Anthony. You come in so meek with "Catch the Rainbow" and then. you do this. Good stuff, I like that you changed it to something new. It was inspiring.
  22. Awesome, Anthony. You just set the bar. And really freaking high, too. Another thing I like, you don't spend all the time grinning at the camera. You appear as if you are singing to an audience and that is very good.
